This song is a family history of the Jacksons - the small town Southern man is his father. The four pretty girls are Alan's sisters and he was the fifth child - a boy who wasn't planned. Daddy Gene did in fact build their home on the farm while all seven of them lived in one room. RIP Eugene Jackson.
    Love your reactions!

My favorite AJ song! Raised by grandparents in a small town, this song describes my PawPaw to a T! He’s passed on now but I still miss him 💕

I just made a comment questioning if it was about his dad.
I don't know why it never clicked for me until now. But when he talked about the 7 daughters, and then finally a boy, all of those interviews I watched of him talking about having a bunch of sisters and being the only boy and the youngest, I finally realized this was probably about his dad.

Alan actually has 4 sisters and yes, he is the baby. It 7 people living all together (meaning Mom, Dad and 5 kids). But, yes, his Dad was a car mechanic. I think it is kinda crazy that his Momma's name was Musick (pronounced Music) prior marrying that Jackson boy. Also. His wife Denise never had to change her name cause her maiden name was Jackson.😂

When Alan Jackson sings about his mama and his papa and their love for Jesus, I feel something resonate deep in my heart. Alan needs our prayers now and I hope we don't forget him the next time we talk to God.

Anyone could kill a deer. Skinning, gutting and butchering it is a whole other set of skills, lol.

Hell, not anyone can kill a deer where I live. These deer are elusive and smart. 😂
If you're privileged enough to hunt on private property, then yeah, anyone can kill a deer. Lol

@@GoodOldGamer Yeah. Ironically, that can be true where I live too. I think I've been in roughly 8 collisions with deer, myself. Lol

I don't know why I never thought of this until now, but I wonder if this is about his own dad.
Because I recall him talking about how he had a bunch of sisters and he was the only boy, and he was the youngest.. Funny thing is that Alan himself also only had girls.
Reminds me of my uncle. My uncle had 3 girls, and those girls popped out a bunch of kids, including twins, and they were all girls. Then finally one had a boy, so he wasn't the only male in his own family.

The Bearded Butchers have some great videos on how to cut up a deer, if you truly want to learn.
I grew up hunting deer and fishing with my dad, and eventually hunting elk in Colorado in my teens, so it's always felt second nature to me. Hard for me to imagine what it would be like mentally to try to get into it as an adult, if you didn't grow up with it..
I would be be thrilled to teach someone who wanted to learn, but I wouldn't be thrilled if they're not willing to put in the time and effort that it can take to do it. Some people expect it to be quick and easy and get impatient about it, but most of the time it's not quick and easy. Anyone can do it if they're willing though.

(Sigh) (facepalm). He doubts himself and his manhood. wth. You go you learn your instincts will take over and you WILL put food on your families table. Why do they doubt themselves so much I don't get it. "Forgive them father for they no NOT about themselves." Ok that was just a little play on words but you get my point.
