Is the 1994 Toyota Celica GT-FOUR more SPECIAL than the Supra?

  • The Celica GT-FOUR is a very iconic JDM. It was built for one reason and one reason only and that was to go rally racing in the WRC. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 turbocharged 252 HP & mated to a 5-speed manual. It's AWD system will keep you planted to whatever the terrain is. It's exterior is pure homologation and is ultra rare. Is the 1994 Toyota Celica GT-FOUR a true JDM legend?

Yeah, they're actually pretty slow for what they are thats probably why. I've seen GT-Fours get mopped up by DC2 ITRs on the road course. Also you have better and faster options like Evos and STI.

Hey Joe, it has an air to water intercooler. The black metal box with the pipes coming out in the middle of the engine bay is it. There should be a reservoir and a pump for it somewhere on the car. None of the ducting on the car has any effect on it. the hood vent is for exhaust side heat extraction. Thank you for featuring this car. its the model toyota got banned for cheating with in WRC.

This car was not an endless money pit! This car went toe to toe with the old 2-door Subaru Impreza WRX's, Mitsibishi Ecilpse AWD, and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I wish Toyota cars like this stuck around into the turn of the century. At the time in the 90's Toyota had 3 insane sports cars in the indestructible Supra Mk4, mid-engine MR2 SW20 Turbo, and rally legend Celica GT-Four. It's no wonder why Nissan put so much heart into their Skylines and Sylvia 240SX while Honda laser focused their NSX, Preludes, Integras, and Civic Type R's. The JDM market was very competitive.

    Yes, it's more special.
    Why?
Weirdly not so known fact: the Supra that really put the car on the map was the version seen in Gran Turismo, which was the Castrol Tom's Supra, which absolutely dominated the GT500. It was powered not by the heavy 2JZGTE but the lighter 3SGTE, rocking 650bhp or more, it was an absolutely monstrous car.
The only reason we have Imoreza and Evo's rocking the fame they do is because the Gt4 got booted from group A due to the much documented turbo scandal, the Celica was so dominant that they wouldn't have got a whiff at the fame they have if it wasn't for the gap left by the Celica. Even without the turbo technology, the Celica would have continued to dominate.
Am epic vehicle, worth every penny and happily still very affordable.

Is it cooler than a A80 absolutely. It has more of a history behind it and everyone loves a good story. But these cars are extremely slow as compared to a lot of other choices that were avaliable when this car was new. Being a heavier 2 door with only 250bhp wasn't enough to keep it in the ring with its competition. Everyone calls these cars underrated or dont get enough love and there's a logical reasoning for that. Cars like this and the Z30 Soarer were mediocre at best amongst the many other choices at the time. The fact that this car in OEM spec cannot go the rounds with a DC2 ITR for example wasn't good. When this car went out of production nobody in their right mind would choose it over a Evo VI GSR or a GC8 STI with them being lighter, more power, and more practical. However in present day it is a much more cool car due to the rarity because people weren't buying it when it was new.

We in Ireland got these and MR2 turbos in buckets loads imported as second hand Japanese imports in the late 90,s early 2000,s plus loads of other mad Japanese stuff. I was a Honda guy and enjoyed the Civic EK9,s integrals and the EG Civic SIR model with 170 bhp.We don’t have the 25 year rule thankgod or any year rule at all

Heh, the Toyota Celica is a beautiful car, I love coupes. But y'all probably didn't know about or forgot about Toyota's supercar. The Toyota Previa. Mid engine, all wheel drive (optional), and a supercharger after the '93 models (also optional). Tho to be fair the Previa is a minivan, but one of the coolest minivans ever for sure.

Just a heads up that there are more then 2500 ST205's made. The 2500 only applies to the first 2500 made which came with extra WRC kit (water sprays/anti-lag) which was all deactivated from the factory. The 1994 ST205 WRC & the rest of the ST205's from 1994 -1998 are the same car, same chassis, 3s-GTE Rev 3 engine, turbo, super-strut suspension, wheels, big brakes, aluminium hood... everything 👍
