I never noticed how his eyes cleared when you first struck him. Maybe at first he's just a mindless killing machine, until he is harmed and selects an arisen.
It's upon challenging the dragon that Grigori awakens, awaiting that moment to find a new Arisen. Combat is not required for an Arisen to be chosen or get the dragon's attention, but in this instance it was.
Oo never thought about it, but that seems highly likely. That would make complete sense, with both the translations of his dialogue and seemingly more animalistic nature in the cutscenes before the arisen attacks.
The arisen is chosen as someone with the will and drive to live and survive bringing meaning to life. This it is when he attacks instead of fleeing, his heart shows strength and the arisen was identified. It’s not that Grigori chose him, but merely found him.
According to lore he was some sort of military general or something like that. He despised weakness and cowardice. Other than that we don't much information
This is what I do. I would keep talking with the dragon and keep debating instead of attacking them. I'd make it work. I always do. I know their language. I know the points they try to make.
@@tracemacmillan9718 There are 2 endings involving the Gosbane, although one could be considered a 'game over'. Using Godsbane during the fight with Seneschal will kill you and turn you into the dragon, just like you would lose to him normally. Using the Godsbane after you become the Seneschal will break the cycle.
Man, I am so disappointed with DD2 when it comes to the dragon. DD Grigori had so much more character, much better animations and his fight was more interesting.
"Ah, you are what I have been seeking. One with will enough to harm me. I will take your heart, your very life. I am Grigori, Death's Incarnate, Arisen. Seek me if you wish your life returned."
Someone translated it as: "Ho, I have found a courageous one by these shores...and yet these waters are entirely fouled. How many struggle, protest, and fall? My name is Grigori. This is your initiation, my cruel gift of eternal life."
It's his role in the cycle, to terrorize the world, giving the arisen a reason to kill him. He isn't evil, he's just part of the system, playing his part
Since it's a cycle, he probably wasn't in full control of himself, only playing his required part until a future Arisen challenges him. I'm basing it on his cloudy eyes that only clear after you attack him. Or you know the previous player could just have been an asshole
A tiny detail I never noticed before. At the very beginning, your first quest marker doesn't say kill the dragon. It says challenge the dragon
Yeah I noticed that
Yes. Exactly. "Debate and challenge". It's all about what the dragon isn't telling the player.
Limited game mechanics though.
@@taramaforhaikido7272 limited why?

Grigori was once an arisen that failed to beat a saneschel.
That's why I wouldn't try to physically attack them. Ideals though? They will listen.
"The rantings of an upjumped zealot make for tedious listening." - A verbose way of saying he was annoying as hell, but I still agree.
Kinda hilarous how this decade old 3Ddragon looks better than the Netflix series.
Well…
I’ve always wondered what sort of Arisen Grigori used to be
A very well-spoken one
According to lore he was some sort of military general or something like that. He despised weakness and cowardice. Other than that we don't much information
@@presence5383 Figures why he'd go after a little fishing hamlet first then damn haha
Grigori is strong, he probably refused to kill the Senaschal rather than got defeated. Probably he used the Godsbane on himself during the fight.
@presence5383 where is that stated?
Grigori had no reason to put so much of that *quirky* tension in each encounter and yet he did it anyway.
"You or me? Death or live? Beyond"

defeating the Dragon with facts and logic
SPOILET AHEAD
The dragon is actually the previous player that refused to take place as the world watcher from the previous player before him/her.
No, the dragon is the previous Arisen that failed to defeat the Seneschal.
@@TheFinaladventure Basically the same, using Godssbane will turn you into dragon

Grigori - chad
DD2 dragon - chem
DD2 was less about dragon and more about breaking the cycle, fight was definitely shorter though without the chase/escape sequences
Compared to Grigori, DD2's dragon seems to be more depressed like "let's get this over with, yeah?" type thing
David Lodge fucking kills it as Grigori.
4:55: Emperor Palpatine, is that you!?
Amazing gameplay keep up it
I need a remake of this game. Just finished dragons dogma 2 and it was great!
The dragon looks oddly feminine and elvish - cute and adorable, but dangerous at the same time.
I gotta admit he does look kinda cute lol
@@_Jose77 It's the ears, big floppy elf ears on a dragon.
It's pretty similar to the Welsh dragon.
A verry cute Derg 🥰
He doesn't look feminine at all
This one scene was more epic than the entirety of Dragons Dogma 2 main story combined.

I always wondered what the hell the dragon says in the beginning, when he takes the arisens heart
"my heart now, lmao git bodied" my latin isn't the best but that seems close
