19:38 Okay now that was a sick ass finisher shot. This game always gives opportunities for such epic moments! Grigori is hands down my favorite depiction of a dragon in gaming, his butter smooth monologues are just a cherry on top.
Grigori is simply the best dragon in all of gaming, perhaps all of fiction. Yeah, I said it. He challenges us physically, yes, but perhaps most interestingly he challenges us philosophically, as character and as player. He asks us what our purpose is, why are we doing what we are doing? If living is the goal, then running face first into a dragon is foolish, but there's more to living than mere survival... He contrasts us to the goblins, who are easy to fathom, simple survival for fear of death, which he immediately demonstrates by scaring them off, Grigori himself acting as the death the goblins seek to avoid. There we are, an adventurer, a hero, a player of a videogame, running head first into seemingly impossible odds. "Come to face death incarnate arms in hand". Yet the fight is only secondary to the true test: A test of willpower. Grigori foreshadows this when he comes to meet us at the greatwall: "The choice lies not with me, nor with the whims off fate, it is yours alone". If you wait a moment before making your choice after his monologue, Grigori will continue speaking, highlighting again that the true nature of your struggle is not physical but one of willpower: "Though I called you here to me, it was ever your own will, your own two feet that brought you here". To me, Grigori is a metaphor for struggle itself. Only in the fires of struggle are we forged to be better people, and only by being forged can we take control of our own destiny.
"Abandon all delusions of control." This line hit so hard especially when the game registers Fournival as the Arisen's beloved because he was the last npc I talked to and there's no way to make a separate save to reload (at least in the pc version).

Grigori... possibly one of my favorite red dragons in a dark fantasy game alongside another one, Angelus from Drag on Dragoon/Drakengard series. Both were fearsome and wise at the sametime very tragic characters as well
The Alduin you see in game is like not even accurate to begin with. Bethesda main story is worse than the mid part of the plot of DD that nothing happens, because it's heavily simplified. They used the excuse that the games are just representations of the events because they are too lazy to do an actual good bossfight. Alduin can grow in size, getting even bigger than Mundus (The Universe in tes) because he literally eats it. There's another books that he's seen in that depicts him being taller than mountains and he literally bit off a mountain and ate it casually while he was fighting Merhunes Dagon before he became a deadric prince and his defeat by Alduin is what turned him into Merhunes Dagon. So when you compare the lore feats you notice that bethesda really fucked up on Alduin's portrayal in game.
Riel I didn’t really read any of the books in game, and it’s crazy to believe that Alduin was suppose to be this great dragon. I mean he must possess a very very and I cannot stress it enough very minute fraction of his overall strength. But even then, he still should be much stronger than even the Dragonborn. If Alduin is written to be such a beast, I feel as if the battle between the Dragonborn and Alduin should be a battle of false hope, in which a lone hero is not enough despite how powerful he may be. It took three with the power of Dragonrend and an Elderscroll to cast Alduin into a time rift, yet one man/woman to kill him. Feel free to disagree, I’m just talking out my ass.

16:38 I love both gams, but the speech from Grigori is far superior, the starting speech for the battle and Clash of Fates playing is so much better but i love both games.
When I was a kid I played this game as myself, I played as a 3-4-5 foot tall little boy, this game was the only game in the world to capture that surreal feeling of putting yourself in the shoes of a hero. I play it now and I play as me, as a waifu lmaooooo
THE NEWMAKER took me a sec cause this is old. So I haven’t played ps4 version but initially it didn’t have some of the features at least from what I’m told by other people who played the version.
I couldn't even hate grigori or think of him as my enemy. He's just so charismatic and "charming" that i felt like i was fighting a friend. He wants you to do your best. He wants you to be the best version of yourself. It almost feels like he wants you to win, but he ain't allowing that so easily. You must earn it. Love this dragon.
He's actually terrifying, the sinister red and black colouration, the glow of his eyes, the shadow that falls upon him in just the right ways and of course the sheer looming SIZE of him. You can see why he requires someone of unparalleled will to fight him.
Jesus christ this was fucking epic, I fought grigori as a magic archer and oh boi was it rough (skills weren't maxed, not even fully mastered vocation). The only thing doing barely any damage was sixfold arrow and grand scesion(?) and at hard mode I got one shot multiple fucking times, but it was so fucking satisfying when I did beat him.
If this guy was in Monster Hunter World Iceborne as a title update than I bet he would be awesome, maybe he could become one of the new black dragons, despite being colored red.
Interestingly if you fail to defeat the seneschal at the end of the game, or accept his deal, you fall from the sky and turn into a dragon just like Grigori. So Grigori was actually once an arisen like the player who defeated the dragon in his world, but then he failed to defeat the seneschal and was forced into servitude as a result.
@@yewtewbstew547 It actually fits quite well with what Grigori says to the player. He’s bored with his role, and gave the Arisen such strength in order to feel something again. Perhaps a mortal blow, but definitely the thrill of a challenging battle.

I get a little choked up thinking that in just 2 months we’ll be getting the sequel to this masterpiece. Most epic final battle ever, I shudder to think of what this fight will be like in the second installment! Get hyped, fellow Arisens!!
I understand that DD1 Grigori is supposed to be a different character than DD2 Grigori. However, I feel like the devs went for something better in the first game. Pathfinder was also a weak character imo. We don’t get to know Savan for long, but the idea of a Seneschal is far more interesting than whatever Pathfinder is supposed to be (probably just God)
If you (the player, not your character) happen to dislike the person he kidnaps, can you actually agree to sacrifice them?? I forgot what actually happened
That's the Arisen's Bond, the ring you MIGHT give to your Beloved. It maxes out the affinity of anyone you give it to, but it doesn't mean that they'll be your Beloved. So this is suppose to symbolize that Grigori took your loved one, but if you're like me and gave it to Mercedes and then proceeded to accidentally romance the duchess, you will never see this cutscene LOL.
I feel like Grigori would win since the only real to kill him is by the heart and alduin can die by other ways. Plus Grigori is at least 3x bigger. It would still be a badass battle either way
watching this again they did the dragon better in the first one than the second, in the second he is more or less just there but in one there is intrigue and philosophy and he is more part of the world. Its all still shallow but the first game did a better job with the dragon and lore. In the second one its like the first but more of an after thought
Perhaps I’m the only one thinking this but what is with that golden ring after Grigori flew away I’ve played this game 6 times and never saw that ring an explanation of its purpose would be great
It's the Arisen's Bond. Wiki description: The Arisen's Bond is a special ring received during the sidequest The Dragon's Tongue - it is magickally transformed from the Ancient Tablet in the presence of The Dragonforged. Gifting the bond to another indicates that they are the one the Arisen holds most dear. Gifting the ring instantly maximises the Affinity of any person to whom it is given. As an indication of love gifting it often results in the recipient responding in kind to their proposal.
AFAIR, you get the ring from another quest to marry some certain NPCs, in my case, I did offer the ring to Aelinore because her story seems more plot rich than offering the ring to Selene, Madeleine or Quina..
So this scene made me throw up a little. The character I had to save was Simone. That little spoiled brat kid. Than I threw up in the cut scene after defeating the dragon.
Actually watched the anime series a few days ago after finishing the game three times since launch. Interesting how the ending of it is baaaaaaasically one of the "bad" endings of the game. :D I was kind of hoping in the last few episodes that it was sort of a prequel and that Ethan was just a renamed Edmun, and that the anime could have served as an immediate backstory to the game. Like, "maybe Olivia was Lenore too?" ... but well, guess you can't expect *that* sort of relevancy from an anime. Would have been a huge reveal though if all this time we found out that Ethan becomes Duke in the game.
@@Psyralbakor they changed it a lot. Grigori’s death should mean the end of all things. Not Arisen becoming the dragon. total bs In the game, the arisen who doesn’t have the power or strength to sustain life to become the seneschal, fall and become a dragon.
From what I can make out she’s wearing trophy bracers, ancient cape, dragonwing circlet, mummers garb and silver breastplate can’t make out the leg armour

"Good thing you've been wandering around Gran Soren *invisible*, I'm sure if anyone would have seen your face they'd have died faster than any fight against the dragon."
Killing your creation 😭😭😭
I fucked up.
I made my first run with a cheat character with maxed stats, best armor and all spells because I wanted to see the story...
...Then I decided to complete New Game+ with an honest gameplay... Needless to say for those that completed the game a second time that I had a very... Nasty... Surprise... Waiting for me...
The cycle is never ending
How they can make this sequence worse in dd2 is beyond me.
because it's not the true ending, very disappointing, but that's why.
@@AnMoronHe just hates his Job, if you fight him, he calls you a fool in the middle of the fight if you have not realized anything of the cycle.
Lol imagine being male character and seeing Aldous in the cutscene. Tf is it, all I did was giving him a few books??
Lmao I been playing this game since like 2013 I got Aldous 1 time. Unskippable😔
One of the coolest villain speeches I think I've ever heard
The decision is your choice,arisen!!
16:38 I love both gams, but the speech from Grigori is far superior, the starting speech for the battle and Clash of Fates playing is so much better but i love both games.
ah man how dd2 mess up the dragon fight
14:25, I want this segment to be in a Monster Hunter game so bad, hopefully it appears in the gen 6 games
When I was a kid I played this game as myself, I played as a 3-4-5 foot tall little boy, this game was the only game in the world to capture that surreal feeling of putting yourself in the shoes of a hero. I play it now and I play as me, as a waifu lmaooooo
I didn’t know safi’jiiva can talk
I didn't know Grigori could fire blue laser beams
you are both thinking of the same thing in different parallel universes
@@richardcollins5189 I love to imagine that the Safijiiva design was inspired by Grigori.
Somehow the whole cutscene after killing grigori didn't play for me. This adds a lot of context
Mike Jakob ps4 version has glitches in it. It also doesn’t have all the downloadable content that PS3 version had like the eternal ferrystone
The greatest dragon boss in gaming; no contest!
He's actually terrifying, the sinister red and black colouration, the glow of his eyes, the shadow that falls upon him in just the right ways and of course the sheer looming SIZE of him. You can see why he requires someone of unparalleled will to fight him.
Mr. Arisen… i don’t feel so good
Palpatine got crushed.
He is already in mhi, they just called him safijiva
the music... the voice... the gameplay... this game was amazing and I can't wait for the second one.
Grigori wasn't a bad guy at all.
Lol
@@yewtewbstew547 Oh wow that's neat.
@@yewtewbstew547 It actually fits quite well with what Grigori says to the player. He’s bored with his role, and gave the Arisen such strength in order to feel something again.
Perhaps a mortal blow, but definitely the thrill of a challenging battle.
He really wasn't, he's just really doing his job finding a worthy arisen that could fight him to death and kill him. He's even encouraging you to fight him to death lol.
With all the AI voices people have done up, like Dagoth Ur and Joshua Graham, it's criminal no one's done up Grigori's yet.
When I reached the dragon the first time Caxton was my beloved. I guess my arisen really loves doing business with him.
God I cant wait for the second game ❤
It's out thoughts?
@@samuelkibunda6960its good
Played over 100+ hours on it, some mixed feelings, but overall it was a fun experience.
I get a little choked up thinking that in just 2 months we’ll be getting the sequel to this masterpiece. Most epic final battle ever, I shudder to think of what this fight will be like in the second installment! Get hyped, fellow Arisens!!
I feel like I could learn sage mode just hearing his voice.
Sem dúvidas a voz desse dragão é a melhor de todas!! mesmo eu não entendendo nada
The Pathfinder is essentially a usurper seneschal. A false god, in a sense.
Show me a better dragon in fiction. I'll wait.
It's unfortunate they did a Speedrun on the wall. A few scripted events skipped like when he lands on the wall in front of you
God I miss fighting a real dragon
I will never forget that epic battle. Wayyy better than DD2.
Elysion got roasted, metaphorically.
If you (the player, not your character) happen to dislike the person he kidnaps, can you actually agree to sacrifice them?? I forgot what actually happened
Well, you can actually agree with Grigori's request per se which basically is the sacrifice and you'll get the "bad" ending.
@@DixMelkahia OMG really???? I'm ashamed of how much I regret not taking his offer considering who he kidnapped on my game. I like Grigori more 😒
@@DixMelkahia I take it you still don't get to be the the duke, though. What happens if you do it?
@@BlaecOleander Game over but you get an achievement. Of course, it takes you back to pre-Grigori's offer once you load your save again.
@@ordealis3187 woah! Thank you!
Ok he said "Merciful winged death" and in the very next line says "merciless Grigori". They're giving mixed signals.
3:31 “my precious”
ok im just gonna ask what is with the ring ive played this that has never fallen from the sky
Le Grigori du 1er est meilleur que celui du 2, voilà, je le dis.
4:28 I see you were also a victim of DD's beloved system, lol.
No I would like to see a fight between Grigori here and Alduin from Skyrim
I feel like Grigori would win since the only real to kill him is by the heart and alduin can die by other ways. Plus Grigori is at least 3x bigger. It would still be a badass battle either way
"But not mankind..."
I remember killing my pawn to fight 1v1
still a better intro to and a fight than DD2 for some reason
DD1 still better than DD2
so sad DD2's 'Grigori' fight cant hold a candle to DD:DA'S :(
watching this again they did the dragon better in the first one than the second, in the second he is more or less just there but in one there is intrigue and philosophy and he is more part of the world. Its all still shallow but the first game did a better job with the dragon and lore. In the second one its like the first but more of an after thought
Wanna impress me, get the lover's scene with a male arisen and the female-only bandit. :D it's not actually hard, but it's funny to see.
Perhaps I’m the only one thinking this but what is with that golden ring after Grigori flew away I’ve played this game 6 times and never saw that ring an explanation of its purpose would be great
It's the Arisen's Bond.
Wiki description:
The Arisen's Bond is a special ring received during the sidequest The Dragon's Tongue - it is magickally transformed from the Ancient Tablet in the presence of The Dragonforged.
In any case, if you have already chosen your beloved, it will appear on that scene.
@@DixMelkahia Mercedes says some really important shit, i married her
@@franciscogarciadamiani979 I may need to play this gem once again, i've forgotten a lot of stuff.
I shouldn't have finished Bitterblack Isle first, I fought Grigori and killed him real quick before all these cinematics 🤦♂️
So this scene made me throw up a little.
The character I had to save was Simone. That little spoiled brat kid.
Than I threw up in the cut scene after defeating the dragon.
Dude is seriously couldn’t get through the hallway does anyone know why I kept dying in the hallway run?
How does one fight this with a sword?
Does anyone know the name of her long boot? Who has a black crow?
Would it be incorrect to refer to him as Greg?
So who else is here after the netflix series
Just finished the anime sad ending
Not Arisen becoming the dragon. total bs
In the game, the arisen who doesn’t have the power or strength to sustain life to become the seneschal, fall and become a dragon.
@@Psyralbakor So I guess the anime is actually is a content that isn’t really canon in the game’s aspect.
Me
Idk if I should listen to this dragon…
Aldiun amg grigory would just die facing bahamut
I’m mad this person doesn’t know how to use deathly arrow
19:38 Clearly not. TTFN 😘😘
Yes
What armour set is that?
From what I can make out she’s wearing trophy bracers, ancient cape, dragonwing circlet, mummers garb and silver breastplate can’t make out the leg armour
Just personnaly no ring his fall for me at the end of the cutsene somone know How to get this ring ?
You need to give the "Arisen's Bond" to certain major NPCs (Beloved available)
@@DixMelkahia Wich Npc ?
Jes8 Ton père an NPC whose affection level you’ve raised to it’s maximum. It’s done usually by giving them gifts, or interacting with them.

Almost as epic as the Alduin fight lol
i thought this was ethan from the anime or i like to imagine
Get out.
😱😱😱¡¡¡DRAGÓN!!!😱😱😱0:58
T_T I never played this DLC. Makes the new game look lacking.... hopefully Dd2 dlc is this dank.
DD2…….what a waste I expected so much more from those who wrote this masterpiece. New graphics and cinematic cannot make up for a truly compelling story. I expected so much more; I guess wealth and power are sweet anodyne to heart aches.
yeah a good game relative to other "AAA" games and the world is beautiful but they phoned a lot of stuff in.
You call this writing a masterpiece? The game where the only character with good writing is the dragon? Lmao
@@Mohgenstein ugh yeah that’s what we were talking about, Grigori has waaaay better dialogue and writing than the dragon in DD2. The whole thing felt forced.
