True story, when I first started playing in resin, I had no idea what mold release was. Saw a few vids and was using WD, as release agent, so a lot of my first pieces had that effect 😊
Steve, I don't know what I would do if I didn't find you on UA-cam. I'm learning so much from you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the experiments and tips you share.
I’ve not done resin work but I love all these resin crafters. They are all so down to earth and just lovely. I won some resin and I want to make stuff but health took a dive. I just find all these videos relaxing and people so so talented
I think the effect it gives in the resin is amazing, the little cells were beautiful, especially the two square necklaces, especially once they had been domed on both sides. You make such gorgeous pieces Steve. God bless you and all those you love. Have a great weekend!
You are so gifted❣️ I’ve been wanting to join your group but have Zuckerberg issues. Wish you had the group on another platform.😢 Refuse to join FB for any reason. But carry on with the amazing classes!
Beautiful, Steve! I noticed the colors didn't totally merge with each other, so maybe the WD40 kept them nicely separated? Love the cell effects in the gold! 💕👍😊
I just love watching you! You are so creative and this excites me so much as a multi media artist! I can see mixing the wd 40 into titanium white and putting it on last and using my heat to help the white drop and create some beautiful lacing effects throughout the pieces! Great video!
Steve, does your brain ever rest? I bet you think of ideas in your sleep. I can "feel" how much you enjoy crafting, and your energy is contagious. Thankx for so many fun-filled ideas.
I'm new to resin and have been enjoying Steve's videos so much that I've also recommended him in several of my Facebook groups. Unfortunately I received private feedback that he refuses to answer questions unless someone is a member of his private group which requires payment. Many content providers I follow also have private groups but this is something I have never heard of and was so very disappointing.
@Prepper Girl You can, indeed, and you will get cells. 😊 A word of caution: don't use too much! If you are making little pieces of jewelry or even coasters, put a drop of silicone onto your work mat, then dip a toothpick into it and just *touch" the resin where you want a cell. The cell GROWS, however, so it's easy to overdo it. I want to say Steve has a video on this, but...?
Can you use the silicone (liquid) like you do with paint pours for the Cells? I bought some for that, it seems similar it is "treadmill oil" on the bottle or Floetrol for cells in paints? What do you think? Thank you @SteveMcDonald!!
These are truly amazing! Would you get similar results if you didn't mix/swirl them? The cell effect is, I guess, what I am asking. Your sharing is so appreciated. Thank you Steve 😊!!!
So, as in acrylic pouring, oil doesn't mix with water. The oil in the WD40 (which is silicone after all of the other stuff has off-gassed), ends up being pure silicone. Now, silicone mixes with water, but also decreases surface tension, which is why cells form in acrylic pours if it's done correctly. Otherwise, cells can be created by alcohol or even water because cell formation is about breaking surface tension in the end. The "flicking" from a stiff brush disrupts the surface tension and creates "cells". I would challenge you to try making cells by a forceful (because resin is thick) interjection of both alcohol as well as water. If you flick alcohol (91% is likely best for this) from a stiff brush just after pouring so that the surface tension of the last color poured is disrupted to make a "cell", will it work the same as in an acrylic pour? Would be very interesting to find out. Yay! Another experiment.
Wow, that's awesome. You come up with some great stuff. I hope you don't take this in a negative way, but I always think of Alan Carr, the chatty man, when I hear you speak. Nice work sir.
hello sir thank you for this experiment with wd-40 very nice look. Now if you did not dome off those 2…what sand paper would you use to clean up the rough edges??I ask considering i do have trouble at times with scratches on my art???Any and all feedback would be a giant help??
I spent a weekend about 3 years ago “testing” EVERYTHING under my sinks and on my shelves in the garage in resin. Every chemical and cleaning agent, paint type, some spices and foods, and ANYTHING with an alcohol or an oil base. I wanted to see what happened. {I did look up reaction possibilities online} I was amazed at some of the effects and affects of household items. WD40 is one of my FAVORITES!!!
Is there a chemical that you can spray over your uncured piece that will give a nice blur effect? Like all the colors bleed together and no sharp edges, but a very blurry look.
Hello from Greece. Steve your videos have been wonderful, I have learnt such a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.. I'm a beginner and have so much to learn. I do need some help on an issue. My resin is never clear. it always dries with tiny little bubbles. I stir for 10 minutes, at a medium pace. I use a heat gun for the bigger bubbles. but alas when dried....full if bubbles. what am I doing wrong ? Anyone's help would be appreciatec.
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts thank you so much Steve. I'll try stir for less time. The resin i use is very thin, it's a 100:60. It cures in 24hrs. Again thank you for taking the time to answer me. 🤗🤗🤗
Using your lighter won't make the mold & resin stick when you go to unmold it? I'm thinking a torch will make it fuse together & the lighter won't. Let me know what your thought is please

I agree! I've learned so much from Steve. I just love his channels.

I appreciate honest crafters - and you are not as messy as I am

I'm the same. I wouldn't join fb if my life depends on it. I just buy a coffee every month
Like many Americans, I am censored from FB. No idea why, no political posts, just no access.
Like Steve says at the start, he’s on Instagram too x
Instagram is also a ‘no’ for me.
I wish more people would do the same.
Love what you are able to come with❣️💖❤️ You are simply Amazing. Thank You Steve! 😊😊😊
Beautiful, Steve! I noticed the colors didn't totally merge with each other, so maybe the WD40 kept them nicely separated? Love the cell effects in the gold! 💕👍😊
I’ve been spending A LOT of time with Steve. WD-40 is one of my favorite things to use for EVERYTHING.
Totally going to use it in my resin!
Love this technique. I never thought about using WD-40. They are gorgeous.

thnk you for taking the time showing step by step how to make beautiful coasters
Hi Steve, WOW my goodness they all turned out so pretty thanks for sharing 👍❤️
Thank you for briefly explaining all your steps and what products you're adding! So informative and interesting!
They are beautiful. Thank you for all ur experiments. I’m learning so much and it really has helped with my resin art and jewellery making x

Interesting effects of the WD40, beautiful creations!
I need a good red pigment and Mica. Making pins/badges for my US Morris team
I dont see any links to the products 😕. I love them they're so pretty, thanks for sharing steve
I was wondering what kind of red you were using? It was beautiful ❤️. Thanks and I love love your channel!

So cool. I need to try this. I have so many items that you show us. Thanks for sharing
I really like how those came out, i'll have to give it a try
One word to describe your products Genius
Beautiful Steve… love your talent!❤
So pretty! Thanks for the tip. 😁
both of your channels are just so addicting ... so much in short videos.. you AhhhhhMazzze me :)
That is really cool! I'll have to remember that!

Beautiful earrings with that to match would be nice also
Do you have a video for absolute beginners. I have always wanted to have a go at resin but have no clue where to start.
These are truly amazing! Would you get similar results if you didn't mix/swirl them? The cell effect is, I guess, what I am asking. Your sharing is so appreciated. Thank you Steve 😊!!!
Also, I don't see any links to anything except the resin this time for some reason

Fantastic!
Thanks! I enjoyed that video 👍🏻
Thanks!
Hi , please could you tell me which better to use a torch or heat gun for bubbles on canvas? Thanks 🙏 ❤
Look great ❤
Steve there is no links for the items you used. You are so good at your arts and crafts. I try to emulate you often. Lol
I loved this video but I can't figure out which red you used.
So it works like silicone like when I paint?¿
Hi do you know how to make a silicone mold for cupcakes please
Wonderful
they'd look great with a black background.

curious.... does the metallic gold always sink to the bottom of the resin? trying to figure out how to get the other colors to sink some too
When will the uv resin be for sale in the UK?
Is there a chemical that you can spray over your uncured piece that will give a nice blur effect? Like all the colors bleed together and no sharp edges, but a very blurry look.
Very cool
Steve, will the WD40 work like that with UV Resin? I almost never use long-curing resin but I'd like to get this effect.

Wondering How would the wd40 work in uv resin.?
Hi everyone can you do the same with bezels
dometastic!
Wonderful turn-out. Thank you for the WD-40 tips and tricks.
Using your lighter won't make the mold & resin stick when you go to unmold it? I'm thinking a torch will make it fuse together & the lighter won't. Let me know what your thought is please
I wonder, if you do that on UV resin, let it sit them cure it...🤔
wont it smell really bad ?
Now you need an experiment with gaffer tape 😂
Looks like the wd40 is attracted to the metallic.
Seriously looks horrid. But I like ya. So I'll watch another video xo
No idea what you was attempting to achieve in these but I wouldn't of shared seeing as you normally do good videos 🤷🤷🤷🤦🙎🙍🙆🙆🙆
Onviously? Her actions may lead to the death & disappearance of the dog. 9 shd be old enough for responsibility.
I love it...."WD-4E"
Thanks!
