I'm definitely keen to try it out, thanks to you. I'd heard of Cannonball but no-one had explained it as well you have in this video so till now I didn't understand its full features and potential. :)
Nice vid thanks. Outrun is an important piece of culture. Did this emulator have an output for the start button lamp and wheel shaker motor? I have an Outrun dash assembly(and bezel, marquee).
I am also an Outrun fan since I got this on my Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS. However, there is no Cannonball version as if that must add on for Nintendo Switch and 3DS as soon as possible.
Interesting stuff! You can't beat playing Outrun in the Arcade with steering wheel and peddles. I have played both the stand-up machine and both sit in machines, and have completed atleast 3 routes, which takes some doing! ..the sense of maxing out during a video racing game has never been equaled. Maybe some day Sega will offer Outrun 3
Great video! I will have to dig around for this. Watching the footage and listening to the chill tunes brought back memories of days out at Clacton-on-Sea, I could almost smell the doughnuts and whelks. Thank you!
when i hear the screech of the tires and the engine authentic sound it takes me back to being 17 again i loved outrun i must have bought every console back then the cassettes of the audio free on the cover of magazines and recently audio CDs i sold 2 copies of the xbox coast to coast and out run 2 sealed like a fool along with my xbox i had out run everything lol this update is sublime!!! i can play this and the PC coast to coast 2006 on my laptop so im more than happy! no more 10ps filling my pocket...
Wow, this looks like a great conversion and very faithful to the original! Loving the addition of the automatic gear change and the different camera angles. I reckon I'll need to download this one and give it a try.
My quest for the holy grail of coin-ops: OutRun at home began with the Speccy. Not a bad version but every level had to load from tape! At least that came with the original soundtrack on the B-side. Then I heard it was coming out on the Atari ST and £300 for one of them seemed a fsir price to acheive gaming nirvana. But no, the Amiga had more colours so after saving up another £100 I sat down to play...and was totally devastated. What a piece of crap! I often ease my conscience playing emulators and remakes with the rationale that I was ripped off so often in the 80s by unscrupulous games companies that they "owe me one". Anyway, great video. Thanks the heads up and showing plenty of gameplay - this is the way to do it! PS I recall the Speccy version of Hang On (also by Sega was fantastic). Anyone else remember the realistic bike on the arcade original you could lean into curves with?
My Brother and I had the Speccy 128+2, OUTRUN was and still is my favourite game and yes the music cassette was separate to the stages which required loading. Everything looked good proportionally speaking only let down by the colour scheme. My friend had the C64 version which had a better colour scheme but didn't feel like OUTRUN, I remember getting to stage 4 on my first go on his too.
Never heard of it, thanks. As far as I am concerned the best Out Run version, including the arcade, is the 3DS version. It's awesome. If you have a 3DS I advise you to try it.
My PC runs the original outrun roms perfectly. It also runs outrun2 coast to coast quite well. It runs outrun cannonball enhanced version at a literal snails pace. Slows right down. Dont understand it.
Hello I love Out Run and so I installed it on 2 devices. First device a PC and 2nd device a Raspberry Pi 400. It runs like a charm on both version despite the Raspberry Pi 400 is a little bit to slow for highres displaying. in normal low res it runs super smooth too. But I experienced something strange: In the PC version of cannonball-v034-w64 I do not have the hand moving when switching the radio stations (music). On the Raspberry Pi (RetroPie) I have the full moving hand animation when switching the Radio stations. Did someone else experience the missing hand animation on the PC version?? Thank you!
In my case the hand moves with the d-pad on my 8BitDo Pro 2 gamepad, but I can only select radio stations using the left analog stick. The hand doesn't move with the analog stick.
Hello, my question is: how can I export or convert my project from the "Layout" program to create an executable (".exe" or "rom") so I can share it with my friend and let them play with my edited tracks? When I use the option "file" -> "export" -> "canoball," it only generates a ".bin" file, and I don’t know how to run it. Thanks in advance (my native language is Spanish).
Hello this is a wonderful enhancement of the original ROMs. Thank you so much for this re-experience of Out Run. I have managed to install all necessary files including the sound fix on opr-10188.71 and the Japan track files. One question: for my german keyboard the view command on Shift - 304 does not work. I also tried to set this on the Alt - 308 key which also is not working for me. Is there anything I can do to get the change views feature?? Ah yes it would be really great if there would be an option that the Ferrari emblem horse would not look left or right with the head depending which direction the player is steering. The Ferrari Logo Horse looks to the left side at every time. Thank you very much!!!
I’m confused, if the engine’s been rewritten, then surely it *is* emulation? The ROM may be original, but the wrapper around it isn’t? Not being pedantic (I hope) but there are several layers of possible emulation?
No it is not emulating the game. The game has been rewritten from scratch and uses the assets in the original ROMs. In theory you could use completely new assets and the game would function 100% with 100% original content.
Thanks for watching. I can't believe it took me this long to try Cannonball. It is just an amazing OutRun experience! Anyone else a fan?
I'm definitely keen to try it out, thanks to you. I'd heard of Cannonball but no-one had explained it as well you have in this video so till now I didn't understand its full features and potential. :)
@@captaincorleone7088 Thanks for the kind words, i hope you enjoy it :)

4:53 why? Because Shake the Street, of course.
OutRun is simply the best arcade racing game, ever! :)
Have fun and enjoy Cannonball(outrun remastered)
its been crapped on now with this shite
This is awesome. Im not even a racing game person but ii love this game!

I had the music on loop in my head after this, such a classic arcade racer.
Yes it is an ear worm 😀

I have to say I'm surprised I'm not the only one who didn't know about this, it's been around for a few years! 😆
@@RetroRecollections Oh I'm always the last to know, don't worry about that 😂
I'd sell my entire family for a sit down Out Run arcade cabinet
at 4:50 I screamed "that's sacrilege!" at the screen and straight after your text "why would you?" popped up, confirming my yell was correct :D

Speccy version was a waste of time having to mess around with the tape recorder every stage.
Another great review Dan...not so much the driving skills :D Thanks for sharing this I'm off to try the Japanese track
Cheers Neil! Yes unfortunately the only thing this doesn't do is "enhance" the players skills! :)
I followed the blog of djyt reverse engineering Out Run over the course of many years! What a ride.
Great review! Gotta love OutRun
This mod is the best way to play outrun in an lcd monitor, is excelent.
Don't beat yourself man, this game is tough to get the hang of it, finally beat it on Normal today and it took some days of practice.
Thanks for covering this!
Check out the Sega Saturn version from 1996. ;)
Another great reimplementation, BTW I sent you a tweet with two more game engine reimplementation
👍
Never heard of it, thanks.

I will have to borrow my daughter's 3DSor maybe emulate 😀👍
one of the superior things about the 3ds port is playing at 60fps in stereoscopic 3d!
I wish they would do this with Chase H.Q. and Chase H.Q. 2
Me too! 👍🏻

Is it possible to make the Logitech G923 work? It recognizes the pedals but the wheel doesn't move at all.
Great video, great game.
The patched music rom seems impossible to find for now. Surprised really as the original ROMs are all over the internet.
My PC runs the original outrun roms perfectly. It also runs outrun2 coast to coast quite well. It runs outrun cannonball enhanced version at a literal snails pace. Slows right down. Dont understand it.
No loss afaic, if you can play the original versions well then i'd pass on this homebrew alternative anyways tbf.
Playing it on the Android Super Console. Along with Sega Saturn version (and possibly Switch) it the best there is yet.
Nice!

"Force AI to play" must be an older version as it's not in the lastest. What would the AI play?
How do you change the car tho to a lambo or a nsx from Outrunners now there's a concept
outrun 1 with outrun 2 music
Hello what's the song at 6:46? Thanks
Great and thanks. Shame about DL links tho??

what do i need to play it?
Thought this was an Amiga revisiting over compensation thing? seems not lol
how to
Talks about 60fps, records video in 30fps. Nice going. (Geezus)
