I have been taking this medication for decades, and I have definitely suffered from mineral depletion, especially magnesium and iron, even though the new Nexium drug adds magnesium in an effort to make up for some of that. Yes, for the most part, it has eased the worst of my GERD symptoms. However, I along with the mineral depletion, I also have chronic, low-grade gastroenteritis and IBS symptoms. One of my gastroenterologists wisely told me to stop using the medication because 1) they were never meant to be taken for a lifetime, even though many doctors have consistently prescribed this medication for years, and 2) the side effects mentioned in the video are becoming more well known by doctors. I tried to use a non-PPI anti acid substitute, and it didn’t work. I have not been able to successfully stop using a PPI. No one is talking about the addictive qualities of PPIs! These PPIs are damn near impossible to stop without having severe rebound reflux.

I took Omeprazole for about 5 years. I tried stopping at about 3 years of use and was miserable with the heart burn and acid that I started taking it again. I finally tried again with many chewable antacids and diet modifications, was still miserable for about 2 weeks.
It's rediculous that they say it's not for long term use but, it takes about a week to work. ❤️✌️

@@thecomet9999 Yes, I know exactly what you mean. However, I went to a new gastroenterologist just today and talked to him about PPI’s, and he said that a lot of research has been done to show that the good far outweighs any “bad” side effects, especially if they are working for us. They do work for me as far as GERD/heartburn is concerned. At 74, I’ve decided to quit worrying about the side effects and just take the medication that helps. Every single medication we take, including those for diabetes, can give some people some side effects. I agree that I need to weigh the good vs the bad. There are no easy answers. Even all of these diets, such as KETO, PALEO, etc., have their negative sides for some people.

Have you tried ACV (apple cider vinegar) for at least a month. That helped me more than anything. Make sure you drink at least 8oz of water afterwards. I take one shot when I get home from work around 5:30 pm. I will on occasion need a Nexium if I eat Italian but not everyday.

    • @ReapingTheHarvest
      @ReapingTheHarvest Рік тому +2

You just have to suffer for a while when you come off of it. No way around it, although some things help like the ACV mentioned above. The suffering will cause you to watch your diet more so it's not all bad.

Pantoprazole, also known as Protonix or Pantilock, is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by reducing stomach acidity. Along with other PPIs like Omeprazole, it inhibits proton pumps, alleviating acid reflux symptoms. However, it can lead to various side effects and medical issues.
Common side effects include headaches, abdominal pain, bowel habit changes (diarrhea or constipation), increased flatulence, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, dizziness, pruritus, skin rashes, facial swelling, and bodily swelling. Long-term use may cause nutrient deficiencies like hypomagnesemia and vitamin B12 deficiency, leading to gastrointestinal infections such as C. difficile-associated diarrhea. Additionally, prolonged use is associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis, bone fractures (especially in the hip, wrist, and spine), and possibly dementia.
Here are five tips for managing pantoprazole use:
    1. Regularly monitor for signs of nutrient deficiencies, especially magnesium and vitamin B12 levels, and consider supplementation if necessary.
    2. Use pantoprazole for the shortest duration possible to minimize the risk of long-term side effects.
    3. Consider periodic assessments to determine if continued medication is necessary, as some patients may be able to manage symptoms with lifestyle changes.
    4. Be cautious when prescribing pantoprazole alongside diuretics, as it may increase the risk of hypomagnesemia.
    5. Educate patients about the increased risk of gastrointestinal infections and fractures associated with long-term pantoprazole use, encouraging them to report any concerning symptoms promptly.

I have never suffered from chronic acid reflux, I think I've had it 6 or 7 times in 58 years so I've always wondered why it was prescribed to me. Also, the last 6+ months I've developed digestive and intestinal issues very similar to IBS so I'm trying to eliminate anything that might cause intestinal distress.

Looking at People's opinions on this medication makes me terrified of taking pantoprazole I've been really depressed and it's actually really hard for me to eat anything, but when I do eat anything I don't eat acidic droplet or anything that's going to trigger GERD. And I do feel a slight burning sensation and the esophagus area but not into my throat. Sometimes I just drink water to withstand it but when I go to sleep I wake up with fast heart rate. Cardiologist said he thinks it's because of the gerd. It's hard. I don't know what to do anymore. This makes me really sad, especially cuz I have two kids to take care of and I want to be at my best but I feel incredibly depressed because of this

I used to take Pantoprazole every day. I no longer take it. Here is what I did:
    1) First thing in the morning, I drink one cup of hot (warm) lemon water (1/2 lemon), and then I do not eat anything for about an hour.
    2) I follow a low-carb diet, so I now eat very little bread. I used to have a bagel or toast first thing in the morning and then got severe heartburn within 2 minutes if I forgot to take the Pantoprazole (40 mg) first. Now, my breakfast consists of eggs, some cheese, and some vegetables. No heartburn and no Pantoprazole, thanks to the lemon water and avoiding carbs.
    3) I was never a coffee drinker, so (luckily) I didn't have to give up coffee. I know it's very hard to give up coffee. I think some people would rather give up their car keys than give up their coffee.
    4) I avoid sugar and foods that contain sugar. No cookies, donuts, etc. I do eat 70% dark chocolate daily, but in moderation. I eat cashews or pistachio nuts every day, also in moderation.
    5) If I get heartburn later in the day (because I do cheat with some foods that I should not eat) it is not severe and I will sometimes take an antacid such as Gaviscon. This treatment does not have the systemic side effects of drugs like Pantoprazole.
Good luck. Remember, you do not need to make a bunch of changes overnight. Work your way gradually towards reducing carbs and sugar, drink your lemon water first thing in the morning, never drink any pop or fruit drinks, and try to minimize coffee and tea.

Most of the side effects I have experienced them. I have been taking Pantoprazole Sodium Delayed-Release Tablet (40mg) since 2019, off and on. I recently was placed on it constantly earlier this year after my endoscopy. About three months ago, I was told to take Pantoprazole twice a day for a month after a Mallory Weiss Tear. Ninety-nine percent of what you shared, I am experiencing.
My doctor offered to take antibiotics last month, which I refused. I am anemic. What am I to do? "I am between a rock and a hard place."

PPI's almost killed me. I was taking PPI's for over 30 years, they destroyed the stomach acid in my stomach resulting in me not absorbing my minerals to the point, I was so weak and sick I almost died. My Dr. didn't have a clue what was going on with me. My magnesium, B-12, bowels, nausea, edema, infections of my stomach and the list goes on. I ended up in the hospital and almost died. I could not eat anything. I lost 75lbs before I got many tests done because of slow testing due to covid. I gave them up cold turkey against the advice of my doctor and I started taking supplements for many months just to get my strength back, before I
started eating again. Today one year later, I have gained back 20 lbs, I have tons of energy and I don't take any meds period. Also, I don't get acid reflux, heartburn anymore. I do take some ACV every second day with water. Please give up these PPI's. They will make you sick in so many ways.

I ended up going back to omeprazole abotu a month ago after a lot of thought and consideration. The amount of burning in my esophagus was troubling and my doctor said the constant inflammation can cause even worse problems, like cancer. I really didn't want to go back after reading so many negative comments but I think for me, if I can take one 10mg pill per day, and all the pain, the constant burps, and everything else is calm and painless, I'm just going to take it.

I've been trying to quit for 9 years, but I got the worst acid reflux of my life when I simply didn't take the ppi for 2 days. The doctors couldn't or wouldn't help. In the end I found an internet page, where people like me self-helped each other. Now I've been taking omeprazol in capsules since 2017, which I open and gradually remove one bullet of the medication per 3 weeks or something. Now I'm taking under 5 mg daily, and still I get mild withdrawal ever time I reduce. What is that? Most doctors don't even believe me.

I was on Pantoprazole for several years > 7, and then I was able to wean myself off it when I realized that it had all these side effects my digestion in general was slow. Last week, I was treated for a bleeding duodenum ulcer and I was again prescribed pantoprazole 40mg 2x daily for a month. Do these long-term effects continue once you have discontinued the use of it, and if so, after how long does your body recuperate? thanks!

Prescribed pregabalin and Omeprazole. Within a day I lost control of both bladder and bowels. Considering the drastic side effects, why prescribe them at all. Now I also have strange swollen areas on my legs and groin. I never had

Easier to call it Protonix, for me it has helped. It does kind of give you a small migraine, bt for the most part it helped me with the stomach pain. When i first had the reflux in January I was taking Omeprazole the side effect was realing crazy because it was like one of those altered side effect almost as if i was experiencing someones strange "happy" expressive behavior without expressing it basically i felt like waving happy out the window stuff that i never do. So after that i found it really strange so i took it like 4 times and then stopped because i disliked the side effect so protonix is like a stomach pain focused. You wont feel the side effect i explain with omneprazole kind of helps you get oxygen be want to be active. When i got sick they diagnosed me with relfux bt i wasnt sure how i got sick...very hard to explain i tried to explain this in the video i posted

Prescription Pantoprazole caused severe pain in my peter 🍆 and foot 🦶🏾10/10 and also abnormal sleepiness. Yes I have been tested for stds, and stis all are negative. I would rather have my abdominal pain and heartburn back than this. And to think my doctor stated there would be no side effects smh. Therefore, I would not recommend Pantoprazole, feels like my peter is about to fall off, try at your own risk. ⚠️ ‼️

Americans need to learn to enunciate and speak more slowly if they want to be understood by the widest audience. I can understand any British accent but parts of this were difficult to understand.
Now to PPIs: I started taking omeprazole many years ago, and then switched to pantoprazole before I retired about 10 years ago, and despite that I still suffer from excess stomach acidity.
Most of the conditions you mentioned as side effects, such as headaches, gastrointestinal problems, osteoporosis and spinal fractures, all predate taking PPIs, and have not changed since, except that I probably suffer fewer headaches and gut proglems seem to be in remission. I'm not sure about dementia, because although I believe I am losing my mind, tests indicate otherwise.

Pantoprazole & Omeprazole along with a weight factor & a recovering immune system (from hypomagnesia caused by these drugs) are what made my covid so bad back in 2019.
I was taking them on & off, alternating, for nearly a year & my GERD slowly got worse, not better.
What did ultimately fix it was a TIF procedure for what also turned out to be a hiatal hernia & Barrett's esophagus. The reflux stopped immediately & I haven't had a problem since the surgery back in March of 2021.
(I never caught any other covid strains, only the initial alpha strain, while being in & out of doctor's offices or the hospital for tests & the surgery.)
