Fun! Thanks for sharing how you've evolved this space with some small changes that have a big impact. It's always awesome to see how other folks solve these kinds of "problems."
So cool. I just redid my studio layout after a year of the current layout. I totally get it - just nice to make things feel fresh every once in a while. Your space looks nice - thanks for documenting.
This channel just keeps getting better! You make your space seem so HUGE! I struggle with the space issue weekly. It took me 7 days last time I stripped back and started over. It's definitely a summer job when time is less important. Thanks for what you do!
Thanks Miro! It's definitely not huge- roughly 12' x 12', so a pretty standard bedroom size. As much as it'd be fun to just have unlimited space, I do think there's something really fun about the limitation of just working with what you've got. I think that's where some of the most creative ideas come from 👍
I'm always moving things around in my basement to get the most practical and efficient use out of the space. I have very little storage space which is a challenge in itself. The first year of the pandemic I spent a few days painting my orange walls hahaha to a blue and grey color, made all the difference in the world. I always love seeing other creators studio spaces and BTS vids like this. Love your set up! The 100K plaque looks great! BTW, I also injured my left wrist so hitting the snare is quite a bit painful at the moment so I've been also taking up the bass 😁 but it still hurts to play.
Bass is definitely wrist-intensive. Even after playing guitar for many years my non-injured wrists were hurting when I started putting more hours into the bass. Luckily that went away though! Hope your wrist heals up!
@@TOMBUCK2 absolutely hahaha! I’ve been focusing more on the right hand techniques. Who would’ve thought alternating finger plucking could be so challenging!
As I told you a couple of days back I was planning to change everything and at the end... nothing... but... like you I reorganised power cables and switches and I incorporated Philips Hue stuff. I have a few ambience bulbs but what I find really cool are smart plugs. I connected all the main elements on them, I have 'sections' defined and now I can turn them on from a central dimmer (on the wall, to turn on base lights when you enter the room) but I also have all the sections on my Elgato Stream Deck. I find that super cool.... Oh and I can ask Siri, Google or Alexa to turn on and off stuff. That's useless but... fun
Smart plugs and remotes can definitely be life savers! Our Alexa has a 50% success rate. Not long ago I told her to dim the lights for bed, and I'm not joking she said, "Ok playing dogs barking" and then proceeded to blast dogs howling, growling, and barking. 🙃
This video could've gone to the main channel if you ask me. Better not ask me.... I'd actually love to have seen the cable management because I need inspiration for that. Not only about tidying up but being more efficient in setups that don't allow for permanent installation. We change gear, connections, I have everything tucked imto the IKEA under-desk cable basket but it's not good if I'd want to change, move things. You've done some fantastic optimization there with the setup and you now have several new angles to work from. Inspiring indeed!
My cable management is still pretty bad overall in terms of looking nice, but there are just fewer cables now, so that helps. I've also been trying to make sure I label power adapters so it's easy to tell what goes where. Thanks for the kind words! I'm learning it can be tricky to determine if some videos should go here or on the other channel, but I like putting things that feel extra "conversational" here (at least for now).
I love the changes (and puns)! The only thing I noticed is that when you are at the new spot (the opposite side of the room), my eyes automatically keep going to the open closet in the background (maybe because it's less colorful than everything else in the background?). It may look better if you close it when you shoot a video from that side of the room. 😎
Yeah, totally thought about either closing it or adding some fun lights in there if I were to film form that angle "for real." 👍 Right now it's just an ominous black hole haha
It's strange that moving things over just a bit really changed the lighting overall. Still need to fine tune that a bit. I've done two "main" videos since moving everything, so it's all getting there!
Yes! I was so mad though because those cabinets each came with wheels and I have no idea where I put them so I just ended up getting new ones. At least they’re a neat bright color 👍
Yeah, I definitely need to play around with lighting a bit. I definitely prefer a "high key" look, but I think it's gradually increased over time and now things get overexposed unintentionally 😁
I just can’t get it right, but it think I like it here. It’s so darn shiny that the lights do funky things with it from certain angles. It’s a wonderful problem to have though 😁
Inspiring! I just moved out of my office/studio space to just a studio space and I FINALLY have a door. So far the biggest challenge has been sound dampening (there are hardwoods in here). So I'm quite literally taking a mini-break from putting up moving blankets around my recording space and still waiting on a sound blanket to cover a big window. Q: the stool that you're using is nice so that there's no chair back in the shot... how comfortable is it when recording, say, an hour long podcast?
Oh man, I can't imagine not having a door! Glad you finally having one! The stool is my drum stool and I really like it. It's super comfortable, the color combo is great, and it raises/lowers just by spinning it. The only discomfort sometimes comes from the lack of back support, but I can usually make it through an hour or so podcast/stream with no issues.
I have a blue one that's the same size in my gear closet, so I could move them...but believe it or not, I actually really like the red. I wouldn't have expected to, but I do!
Fun! Thanks for sharing how you've evolved this space with some small changes that have a big impact. It's always awesome to see how other folks solve these kinds of "problems."
I agree, you could totally look at 10 different setups and find 10 different solutions to similar problems.

Definitely something fun at just refreshing things a bit. It's fun to see stuff you've had for a long time in a different light (pun semi-intended).

Hi Tom, You actually inspire me through yr videos.
Thank you! It really means a lot to hear that.
I'm a sucker for indirect/bounce warm light.
It's so nice! Like a soft, overcast day 👍
Having another background is amazing!
Yes! Super versatile.
I deal with these Dilemma’s all the time. Trying to figure out my home studio room/man cave. So many choices and some set backs. Cool stuff dude!
It’s always fun to try and then eventually make progress 😁

How many times have you moved your UA-cam plaque? Glad you pointed the tube light away from the camera, still may need to be turned down some maybe...

the front side back Pavo tubes look really sick
Right?! Wish I'd have realized that sooner!
I love things! Wheels rock too!

That’s a wheely cool small tool chest
XL-ent 👌🏼
Actually I don't think the low light is as bad as you say. Something in the middle with that cinematic feeling is also nice :)
Yeah, I definitely need to play around with lighting a bit. I definitely prefer a "high key" look, but I think it's gradually increased over time and now things get overexposed unintentionally 😁
Interesting to see how your UA-cam placket change place in every video 😄

Hi Tom I love your new desktop setup! Can I ask what you are using to hold your Rodecaster Pro2 is? Thanks!
It’s a generic VESA mount, any monitor arm will work 👍
Nice setup 👌

oh I forgot, the symmetric shot looks really good 👍 but the red cabinet is so not Tom... should be blue 😉

@@TOMBUCK2 Red and blue make purple... I know someone that really likes purple... 😉
