Great to see these “vlog” type things! I’ve had lots of requests for video podcasts, but they’re a whole lot more work and more moving parts to organise. Glad to see you got the monitor sorted out
@@TOMBUCK2 I definitely don’t think it’s going away anytime soon either. When I get my new MacBook, I’ll invest in Ecamm live so I can do remote guests (since my podcast is with my brother and I, who lives 3 hours away)
Love the vlogs!! I do remember asking you on a Q&A months ago about a video podcast and I remember you not being so sure about it at the time but I think it's cool you've found a cool way to streamline it!
Haha, I remember that. It's a tricky thing because even the best-produced video podcasts are usually still listened to more than watched (meaning the person just has them on in the background and glances over at the screen once in a while). Adding video is such a different beat from audio-only, but I think it is important. And even though I don't stare at every frame of a video podcast myself, I do like being able to see the person/their expressions/etc.
Hey! Thanks so much for this little window into your workflow. I too am looking to streamline a video podcast and to do mostly live switching and recording. Any chance you could go into a bit more depth on your process? Especially that foot pedal! Cheers 🎉
The foot pedal is the Elgato one, which basically works like a 3 button Stremdeck. I do have a video on my main channel: ua-cam.com/video/wtu4FzcrEsg/v-deo.html I'm still trying to streamline the video workflow myself, but I did make a video on how I do "automated" camera switching: ua-cam.com/video/4HRtjeAQDks/v-deo.html
Oh nice! It really is a great one. You might need to spend some time dialing in the colors (I use the Spyder thingy), but you do have manual control over all elements of the picture, which is great.
Any VESA arm will work. I was using a regular one for a long time, but I recently switched to this extra long one and like it quite a bit: geni.us/bOkzyk1
I haven't had any complaints. It does have an "HDR" mode which is pretty awful. The one I broke had it enabled by default when I got it and I thought it was defective. Once I turned that off everything looked great!
For me audio still comes first, so taking the audio from the video file gives the same end result there, thankfully. That's why I don't want to go too heavy on the video production side of things with graphics/angles/etc (at least for the time being- you never know what will change in the future).
@@TOMBUCK2 Agreed on the audio side of things! Do you make a conscious effort not to show too much when talking about something so that it's understood on the audio only? Such as pointing out a feature on a piece of kit when you talk about it
Here ya go! HTTPS://geni.us/lgultrawide It’s not the highest quality display in the world, but I really like it. Especially once it’s been calibrated a bit.
My county government has a waste acceptance center where you can bring your electronics (computers, monitors, etc) and e-waste for proper disposal and handling. Maybe your local government has similar? Since you're uploading to both Tom Buck and TomBuck2, do you get any kind of notices from the UA-cam Algorithm about the same video on multiple channels (even though they are members only and unlisted)? 102,162? It's gotta be awesome to see that on your subscriber count!
There are lots of places here to recycle smaller things like batteries and phones, but it's harder to find somewhere to take a bigger item. There are usually "e-waste" events every few months where you can find a location to drop things off, so I'll just have to wait for those. As for uploading the same video, I haven't had any issues yet. I think it's ok because neither of them are public. I've heard that Patreon is going to start allowing native uploads to their platform, which will be great because then I won't have to "hide" those videos on this channel.
I really enjoy BTS videos like this ☺️ Just ordered an LG monitor myself, not the same as you though, by the looks of it it’s yours is probably a bit more expensive than mine 😅
Can’t believe you’re vlogging. I love it!
Some Swedish guy helped motivate me. 🤷🏻♂️

Oh my gosh, adding video is a whole different beast. But I don't think video podcasts are going away any time soon, so it's important to adapt. 👍

Man I love your vlogs, they are super great and entertaining.
Thank you! They're really fun to make, and it's nice just sharing whatever pops into my head with no pressure.

@@TOMBUCK2 Thanks so much! Keep creating!
I just bought that monitor for $370 Amazon warehouse deal. It gets here on Wednesday…I am excited

Hey Tom, what do you use to mount your Rodecaster Pro 2?
Any VESA arm will work. I was using a regular one for a long time, but I recently switched to this extra long one and like it quite a bit: geni.us/bOkzyk1
Question, the silly one, what happened to the old monitor?
There's a video from last week where it had an unfortunate accident 😬
So how is font rendering on that monitor? I had an ultrawide 4 or so years ago at the university and the fonts were quite grainy.

How have you found recording for the audio only audience since bringing in the video?

where is the link to such monitor

@@TOMBUCK2 Gotcha. And thanks for the thoughts on the multiple videos!

I think mine is the cheapest curved ultrawide they make. Hopefully you like yours!
@@TOMBUCK2 what model number is it? 🙂
What program are you using to streamline all of that and do it on your own?
Ecamm Live! I think you could do something similar with OBS, but I really love Ecamm.
