Porsche 2.7 RS and the Pursuit of Purity
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 вер 2024
- Respected architect Jonathan Segal poetically describes what the 1973 Porsche 911 2.7L RS meant both to Porsche and its drivers. Jonathan's career as an architect has developed his pursuit for purity in the structures he creates. One look around Jonathan's studio and garage, and you'll know this isn't just a man cave for rusted signs and pin-up girls-it's a forum, allowing each car to communicate to their viewers. Jonathan's signal-yellow RS demands an audience and it incites him to drive to the redline every time.

There was a wealthy guy I went to high school with who's father had 2 of these. Went to his house, he took me into ine of the garages, and there were two 2.7 RS's, in showroom condition. The bright blue one is exactly what I think of when I hear Porsche or 911 to this day. I can still see that car in my mind. Someday I'll own one or build a replica, hopefully while I'm still young enough to enjoy it...
Wait he's an architect? Where's his SAAB?
HA! HA! HA!
I have 2 Saabs. Guess what I do for a living?
@@hapapuu repair saabs?

😅
The pants are a 'pepita' houndstooth fabric, which is an obvious throwback to the early days of Porsche where that material was often used as a seat covering. It's even used on the 911R.
He's not wearing them as a fashion statement. It's amazing that so many viewers of a channel like this (which is directed at true auto enthusiasts) don't know the important of Houndstooth for Porsche.
You missed the graphite grey glasses, another node to Porsche.
Utter pretentious twaddle! I would have the same disdain for an Aston Martin owner who dressed in British Racing Green: what a twat!
YUP...Truth!
houndstooth are also throwback to the Auschwitz times unfortunately.
"I will own a Porsche !" He said, everytime he watched a Petrolicious video
The box is lighter, the body is lighter, when I poop I become lighter. I am the architect.
pmmjkl haha
Damnit Beavis settle down
I can't take anything the man says seriously while he's wearing those pants
That was my literal thought at the 0:46 mark.
Fact VS Conspiracy Hey atleast he's got good taste in cars. If only he had the same amount of taste in pants.
I agree, more than a mistake in judgement, those pants are not only poorly conceived but executed worse.Good grief!
Paves 4x4 😂👨🏼🍳 I thought maybe I was gonna get a filet minion when the interview ended. All respect though, that 911 is gorgeous!!

the ending is LEGENDARY ! 3:28
Segal's comments so true. That tear out at the end of the video, awesome!
What I like so much about the Petrolicious Videos, apart from the filming and so forth is that the cars in the videos are in such great shape and are taken care of so well.
The sound of that engine, in the closing scene, is epic.
Seeing someone drive an RS the way it was intended...not stuffed away in a collection, makes me think he actually deserves to own this car!!! Awesome!
Nice film, thanks. Appreciate seeing someone else love the car for the sake of the car and its purity.
still my favorite Porsche. Next the late 70's 930 turbo and then the 914 6. great vids thank you.
I have always thought, and I still maintain, that the RS is the apex masterpiece of automotive design. No sports car before or since has even come close.
Huge props to the owner for popping clutch, hitting the rev limiter and driving her like what she is designed to do.
'It's not the prettiest car in the room' I don't know, man, that's a pretty fucking gorgeous car!
That's subjective... I agree with the architect. 911's are unique, but not pretty.
9 years later and I still come back to this video. The video that truly sparked my interest in German cars and Porsche specifically.
Beautiful video! Keep them coming guys you are the best!
lovin' the last 10 seconds or so.....awesome noise
That's my favourite 911 ever made, everything about it is perfect, and its the only 911 that I'd prefer over a singer 911.
Except that when you are not driving the RS, it is thinking, in your garage, how it will kill you next day.
I can watch these videos over and over.
Wonderfull car! To be enjoyed fully both with your eyes opened and closed.
Years ago I had the privilege of driving a '85 911 Turbo for some time, planning my route trough as much tunnels as possible, driving with windows open at all times.
Spinning the car on a wet road scared me so much i returned it to it's owner the same day ;-)
However, driving an older Porsche should be on everyones bucket list. It's so far from "just driving a car".
Some day i will take that corner in my own 911..
always fun to comeback to the
OG RS and see how it progressed. absolutely pure.
Those are some amazing flipping trousers bro!
I wake up every Tuesday bright and early just to watch the latest release from you guys and you never seem to disappoint me. great video!
When he went down the list of it not being the prettiest car, etc. One thing it provides more than any other car is the Visceral experience you get all through your body, your mind, and your soul when driving it. Absolutely legendary cars! 💪
Incredible I will tell you what is incredible those paints.
I was lucky enough to drive the famous and extensively restored black RS (from USA) which was later imported to the uk. Those days will never be forgotten and will cherish for the rest of my life.
Flippn luv it!...Petrolious is by far the best!..short and with with real heart!.thanks
Not sure why the guy's pants are getting more attention in the comments than that beautiful RS he was driving. Seems like each 911 video Petrolicious makes is better than the last. Please keep them coming.
Working in a car restoration shop. I'd have to say these vehicles for the most part have been restored. To have almost every part of the vehicle look new, it's gotta be restored. If not, the rarity to find one 100% untouched original in that condition goes up 100%
Has to be one of my favourite Petrolicious videos
Petrolicious I have favorited every single video of yours that I watched so far!!
Pure petrol awesomeness, thank you!!
Are your videos available on Blueray?
Christopher, only a man of class would know the name of this type of trousers. Thanks for sharing!
One of your best videos. Maybe a 1993-1998 Porsche 911 GT2, that's a true race car for the road, like the 2.7 RS
This was beautifully done. The 1973 RS is probably my favorite Porsche car, and this looks to be an exceptionally nice example. Where was this filmed?
a joy to watch, as always
Never stop making these videos. Love them all. Beautiful car!
That is the creme de la creme of Porsches. Porsche, owning it since... hell I dont feel like looking it up, but you catch my drift
A burn out in an old porche...lol petrolicious you have done it again. Great video
What has been seen cannot be unseen.
Having owned two RS's its the sum of all their parts that makes them so special...
yes. great point, #JonathanSegal. shaken so much that only the unshakable is left. imho the real essence of #Porsche911 & minimalism @ it's best. i prefer the 'not too' refined. the most enjoyable drive a person can have.
That kind of ending is not something you often see here on Drive Tastefully, but it was a very tastefully done burnout. I had to go back and watch it again.
Awesome launch at the end, good to see an owner not afraid to drive it
I know Petrolicious is all about cars, but I love when there's a story behind the car, like the E30 M3, Lancia Stratos and Ferrari 512 BBi videos - just to mention a few. How the owner got in love with it, how he manage to buy one, his passion about that specific car. I didn't feel this with this video. Seems like this guy have money and well, he just went and bought a Porsche, restored it and that's it.
Not to mention his pants...
I like this guy's description of sounds, my kind of car guy.
Always wanted to see one of these 911's in person I love the dolphin tail. Beautiful car!
Duck tail
Another great video! I love these cars.
I think every one of the Petrolicious videos has made me shiver. Also those trousers. I like that shit.
"that minimum essence creates that purity..." I agree!
Love the car and its sound track the owner has an understanding of what a classic should be, both in cars and the Thunderbirds TV series with Lady Penelope, Parker and their car in the back ground.
Speechless
Man this and the segment with Zwart really capture the essence of a Porsche 911. This and the 964 are my favorite of the 911s.
I never saw an engine so clean! I mean there isn't any dust on it, it shines, it's in perfect condition, perfect ending, that's how I imagine my self going to heaven, not a bright light, just driving to the gates :)
A Petrolicious video about the 2.7 RS? Oh fuck yeah.
Those pants are scary! Halloween is just around the corner I guess. Lol
LOVE the burnout towards the end! Great video.
Best sound on earth!
The sound of the engine is fantastic.
wonderful as always! Best youtube channel on the web. Please do an early MG next, maybe something like an J2
This has always been one of my favorite cars. I've only ever seen one in my entire life though :/
Je suis toujours émerveillée par vos superbes vidéos très passionnantes ❤
I am new to Petrolicious .... so sorry, but how stylish can an intro animation be?!? Epic material!!! Good job mates.
Pure art!
This is my Porsche dream car. It just does it for me in every respect.
Thanks for sharing your story
But without a doubt it is, "the coolest car in the room"....and on the road
My absolute dream car.
Recognized the skyline, too. San Diego, baby!
Its amazing how much commonality there is in the BOM's of an 1985 Carerra and a 1973 2.7RS.....
Every video you people make, is downright perfect. A short intro that doesn't get in the way of the video, engine sounds without music overpowering them and, great stories behind every car you show and all your videos touch me in a (non-homosexual) way. I have yet to see a video of Petrolicious I don't like. Subscribed for life, keep up this absolutely amazing work!
Can't wait to see if they have an old Aston Martin for us. That would be incredible
He's wrong, it is the prettiest car in the room. It is truly magnificent!
Actually the sport exhaust was a factory option and MANY owners swapped it out for better performance. Similar to current day porsches have a sport exhaust option from the factory.
You guys @ " Petro" crack me up...you knew damm well when you shot those "pants?" the responses would be 50/50..the pants or the car...well done! And BTW for those that think you cannot record engine sounds did not see or hear last weeks vid....still playing it over and over..the RS is sweet...but the Z has my heart.
Bravo Petrolicious. Bravo.
What a sound on that Yellow Beast
this Fellow also has the Maserati A6G Allemano on Jay Leno series....good tastes
What a car! It is a dream one day I can maybe own one!
nice vid. love the way you do it.
Great video, can't wait for you guys to figure out how to record engine sounds.
I could help with russian subtitles for your videos, it is definitely worth showing to more people.
Best part was the end
Yes please.
Have a word with yourself about them trousers.
Nice garage!
I got to see two RS's at once, by the same owner, he has two! One blue with black emblems and a white one with red emblems, besides that F40, turbos, Dino, Corbra 427, yea so cool, and don't forget the '74 Fiat Spider so fun. He actually knew Carol Shelby, no joke, so intersing
Very good video until 3:48.....Awesome video!!!
One of the ultimate Porsches. Ill take a 74 with that gnarly sport exhaust. YUM!!!
Love the car, not so much the owner. At least he drives it hard, but my douche detector kept flickering.
Eatinbritches why because he was wearing checkerboard tights? ;)
he got my respect after that launch at the end
You don't even know him. I do. He's a great guy who has been a big influence and supporter of housing in San Diego. You should be ashamed of yourself. Jonathan's IQ is twice yours, so shut your mouth.
Yep, recognized Harbor Island and Harbor Drive. Not sure where in the mountains they are though.
This is the best Porsche, in my opinion =}
Awesome unit well maintained, keep it up!
It’s not the prettiest, nicest, fastest
But it’s the most raw, brutal, unique, sexy and hardcore piece of machinery a man can lay foot on.
great vid, love your Porsche, but dude those trousers
3:48 arguably the best and most orgasmic sounding car to ever exist.
Nice colour! :D
And the end of the video, so perfect!!
I had one of these, and wrecked it... rather than repair the body, I pulled everything out of it... engine, brakes, suspension parts, etc... and bolted them into a very nice stiffened and modified 914 body... the modifications are still ongoing.
Continue to keep a low profile..its better that way for your safety.
Who cares what he's wearing when finally you get an owner willing to drive his car like he stole it. Burnout in an RS? Yes please. Petrolicious has many nice car features, but rarely do the owners drive it as hard as this guy in the videos. Usually just snaking around here and there. Kudos to him, funky pants and all...
