It was actually the first video of the day... Well, actually the second one. We shot one in the Guitar Gallery of the new Made 2 Measure Les Pauls for the Andertons instagram. :-)
Really enjoyed this vid and didn’t think I’d like these pedals at all. I was wrong. Probably a niche market but there was something deliciously idiosyncratic about all of them (especially the distortion). By the way, a video for a Krautrock inspired rig would be marvelous. Can, Neu, Amon Düül II, Popol Vuh, Faust, etc created some of the maddest music of the 70s. Insane but wonderful.
Don't worry though, didn't Lee say at the beginning that he found things sounded better when it was just the guitar plugged directly into the amp, completely bypassing the pedal board? Smart for a GUITAR STORE to suggest the BEST option is to purchase ONE GUITAR, ONE AMP, and ONE CABLE!
Alot of repair shops have all these schematics organised. Internet fora are really strong in digitizing these analog libraries. My dad had like a whole wall with these electronic schematics.
Great video as usual. Pete was in rare form, as was Lee. I just have to say that if you do not release the outtakes of this video you will be doing a very grievous diservous to your subscribers. WE NEED TO SEE THEM!
They're about the same size as a couple of their foot switchers, so it's not that unexpected. Those enclosures seem thick enough to survive being run over by a tank.
The pedal housings were so huge in the old days because, without a pedalboard heavy enough to keep the pedals in place, the pedals needed to be heavy enough to not scoot around when the player pressed the buttons with the pedals set directly on a stage or floor.
The reason pedals were huge, was because the components were huge. The capacitors were more than twice the size of today, as was various other components.
There was just very little demand for small pedals as most players used very few pedals. Plus pedal boards were generally custom made/DIY, so were built to suit the choice of pedals rather than the other way around like it is today. Plenty of big old pedals are not necessarily heavy, EHX is the most common example.
@@charmandrews yeah, but no one had small enclosures in the very early days of guitar pedals. Perhaps the big, heavy pedals were inspired by the foitpedals used in industry, nothing like a big bulletproof pedal to survive constant use in a factory.
Was suddenly at a Day on the Green show back in the 70's during that last segment. lol One point worth mentioning was the tone kicked ass when all three were on together.

Orange does distortion really well usually- never played with this pedal but, if it's like their amps- I'm going to like it. The compressor- meh, not that impressed with it tbh. The phaser is cool but- I don't use the effect enough to warrant buying one. I want one of the multi effect modulation pedals that does all of it- flanger, phaser, doubler, etc. Makes it much more economical and takes up way less room, I don't have to worry about supplying power to a bunch of different pedals.
Gotta love orange, I thought they'd stop the bs after selling a 3 knob amp for $3200 (no cab) but we're back again! this time including a single knob...phase pedal...in orange...and it's 2.5x the price of a phase 90...what a steal!
Please release Pete and Lee “uncut” without all the blurred out / blipped out filth. You could even sell it out the back of Andertons on a dodgy bootleg VHS for £20 a pop - we’ll pre-order 10 😉😎
I have a new pedal idea, one that constant chugs an open note of your choosing w a drop tune and a treadle pedal like a wah but to vary the chug speed instead. This way all the drop tune nu dethmetal kids can just play the fills between the chugs w half the effort!
The large size isn't really a problem due to the cable top loading. So you can scrunch them together on the board! But I have a question about the "sustain" pedal. In the US it's $249. But the Orange Kongpressor is only $155. What gives with that? From what I can see, the Kongpressor is a MUCH more capable pedal and it also features optical compression.
@@Newnodrogbob Very good point. That's got to be the difference isn't it? I've looked but can't find any indication of where the Kongpressor is made. The Sustain does seem to be made in the UK.
