    I think it’s so damaging to teach kids to lie and blur the lines of reality and acting like that. You can even see their confusion as to what they should say and when they should lie.

      I also wonder if they get nervous or scared because their parents are screaming and acting worried/mad in the last skit, I know if I was that young I would be upset with adults yelling at me even if it was pretend

    • @lilchibee

      @@lassoroot same here! I work with kids and did a lot of psych classes in uni and for young kids (like the younger boy) 'play' reinforces their growth and development and role play helps them cope with emotional conflict (like how when you were young you and your friends probably role played various interpersonal conflicts like a story and worked it out). So. Idk man. I feel like this kind of pretend with the parents for a camera might get confusing for some kids.
      I also work with kids in theatre productions, and even though it's a different setting and everything is very clearly pretend, we still monitor them and make sure any questions or concerns they have are addressed. Like if there is something sad or a more serious topic being handled I make sure they feel comfortable and understand that it's different than real life. So anyways. My non-professional opinion is that playing pretend about lying and stealing and getting yelled at (with your parents in your home) might be a liiiiiiiitle weird for young kids to process. 😶
      Edit: I just remembered that in one show, the kids did have to get yelled at on stage and they were older (like 12 and 13) and definitely knew it was not real, but it still took them a few tries to get used to it where they weren't literally shaking in their boots and unable to get their lines out (and the guy made sure to interact with them positively offstage because he didn't want them to be scared of him lol). The guy yelling was super nice irl BUT he was playing a horrible man (this was Boo's dad in TKaM) and he looked so intimidating that even I felt on edge around him. So yeah. Even teens and young adults get jumpy when adults/authority figures get mad and freak out even if it's 100% pretend!

      Plus it raises your kid to just think doing fucked up shit is fine. Because you've been 'acting' doing it for years as a kid and your parents were fine with it. So stealing is ok right?

      I can top those stories. When I was a baby my mom gave me her shiny wristwatch to play with, and I dropped it while she was pushing me in a stroller, she didn't notice until we came home. So she never found it (I'm guessing somebody else picked it up), but she still keeps it on her list of all the bad deeds I've done in my life. Another terrible war crime I had apparently committed was as a 10-year-old stay for too long at a playground. My parents played the counting game, I wanted to stay though, so they just left and locked me out of the house.
      And to think that there are some parents out there who have to deal with drug-addicted or violent kids, and then there are parents who don't have such problems with their kids but inflate very trivial issues to make it look like their kids are practically crack whores or something.

I remember standing in the few inches of floor space in a room while she dug through things her goth sister had left behind when she moved out, staring hungrily at shiny black platform boots she unfurled from the heap. I left thinking she was rich.
      To date her yard has cooler shit than basically any mansion I’ve seen- but I wasn’t allowed to go over there anymore after my parents found out her dad and brother were uhh. Unsafe to be around. I was really pissed as a kid bc I thought they wouldn’t let me hang out with her bc she was poor to them. • @phersnamelasname
      @phersnamelasname 3 роки тому +628

      that’s an interesting observation but to be fair, that is how a lot of kids talk in front of a camera. an adult vlogger might sound like this only because they have a young audience and want to get on their level. i know the kid’s vlogging is staged but the enthusiasm in his voice should be more real than an adult’s. it’s not a good idea to shove a camera in the child’s face and publicly expose him but i hope he was still having fun

    • @hepthegreat4005
      @hepthegreat4005 3 роки тому +190

      maybe it shouldn't be? Those adult vloggers are targeting children. Do you think they speak normally? No! The adult vloggers actually try and speak more childlike and less adult like, so it's probably easy for the children to speak this way. Because the adult vloggers are using child like languages to target them.
      Kind of the way mothers have a special way of talking. You know it.
      "whuse a gud wittle gurl you are! yes you are" -> baby speak. Interesting fact, this doesn't just happen in English, every language has a "baby talk" that mothers use with their children instinctively. They use speech that is easier for babies to learn remember and imitate.
      Vloggers are using a type of "child talk" to target children.
      The reason the vloggers are using it is disgusting, but the fact that children are imitating it is completely natural and expected.

    • @KPater-mf4je
      @KPater-mf4je 5 років тому +32

      Eh, that haircut is common among a lot of married moms in the lower middle class that are on the threshold of middle age, and there's a reason for it: they don't have time in the morning to do their hair because they have to raise their kids and do chores for the husband. What they want is a haircut that is really cheap (i.e. super easy) and doesn't require maintenance beyond a little combing.
      So, the poor man's Vidal Sassoon cut, a kind of ugly asymmetric page/bob hybrid, is what such women usually get.
      Really poor women don't get their hair cut at all and it grows out into long, dry strands. In Europe, women get the same haircut as the men do: hedgehog style, those ugly spikes that guidos and douchebags made intolerable in the States. It's even worse than the Karen bob.

It is not my child's responsibility to perform to make money so I can pay my bills! Do I take pictures and videos of my child? Of course! Do I share them PRIVATELY (not online) with family? Yes. Would I EVER put these memories out in the cesspool of the internet for God knows who to see and do God knows what with? HELL NO! Even if she did something absolutely hilarious or seemingly impossible, I would NEVER put it out into the world for the masses or the media to gobble up in order to get attention and have 15 minutes of fame. Children have a right to privacy and even their parents shouldn't be able to take that away. Because once it's gone, it's damn near impossible to get it back!

      Okay same, I was looking for someone else with this experience! Like I always had a general concept of money because I was around 4/5 when the 2008 recession hit, and my dad is self-employed. So my whole childhood we were in this loop where we could keep the fridge stocked, buy a new toy, or get hot lunch at school when my dad's business was doing well, but then had to pinch pennies when it wasn't. Like the amount of times the credit card would get declined at the grocery store and the cashiers would have us wait to the side while my mother frantically called my dad/the bank to get it fixed instilled in me real early on that money is not easy to come by lol, and credit cards are not magical entities.

    To add on to how little a kid understands money: when I was 4 I cried in FYE bc my dad wouldn't get me a Little Mermaid VHS and kept saying "but you get money back!" (I was referring to change and at that age just assumed anytime you buy something you're just given money back)

    What I found to be the most insane, is that by purposely flashing a credit card that isn't yours so that strangers can use it is a form of fraud, a federal offense. They were basically saying, "committing fraud is funny, you should do it!"
    And if some kid watching decides to try the same stunt (but for real), the parents will have little chance of recouping the charges from their bank associated with the credit card. (Unlike when real fraud happens, where you are almost always covered).

    the trope of mothers (and other women in authority, like female teachers) being evil annoying buzzkills in kids content is so damaging, especially in contrast to a "fun" dad who will openly make fun of his wife for being "too bossy." of course people are just gonna see women as nagging bitches when this is the kind of content they grow up watching.

      Yeah and I didn't even realize it until I got older how saturated the trope is in media, especially in Nickelodeon and Disney shows. Extra bonus points if the mom or female authority figure had reasonable advice or was making a criticism that was called for in a specific situation but either the MC or some prominent male figure wrote her off for being "naggy".
