    I'd like to ask... in the example at 24:30 of the video... How did you know the term "arteriovenous" fistula? I dont see the word "arteriovenous" in the example. How do I know this is the term I use to look this procedure up in the index? Thank you for your input!

      The patient is on hemodialysis, and an arteriovenous fistula is a loop that is made between an artery and a vein (which is a procedure done frequently for patients who require hemodialysis!), so because we know the patient is needing to continue hemodialysis, we can sorta infer that its an arteriovenous fistula.

    Quick question on the 18:30 case study. It gets a little confusing to me. The 36245 says catheter placement in lower extremity artery branch. The question says they went through the femoral artery which is in the lower extremity. How can I become more understanding of this? Will there be codes based on where the access is? I hope that makes sense. Thank you for your videos. ❤

    hi there, when you say you want to look over the guidelines in cardiovascular, where are the guidelines exactly? I know in ICD10 book they are right at the front then in the beg of each of the sections? Do you mean the paragraphs that are in the beginning of the sections in CPT book? For example, pericardium section has 2 paragraphs, one starting with "In order to report pericardial drainage with insertion..." are those the guidelines you are talking abt? THANK YOU!!!

    I'm 24 taking my CPC Exam online this month. Why do older people seem to be the majority in this field? Is it because medical coding is something people don't generally know about? Can it also be because people who are already in the medical field find out about it through being in healthcare?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  3 роки тому +7

      Yeah it definitely gets missed on career day in high school, right? I think it's honestly one of those things they could train at tech in high school and students could legit graduate high school and be able to do medical coding.
      When I started out it was a lot of ladies that worked in doctor officers as assistants and then kind of fell into coding. So yeah -- people that were already in healthcare and then learned about coding.

      It is not something I heard about much before working in medical transcription, which I have done for 28 years. Also, with the addition of so many codes in recent years, I think alot of people were able to do it without as much formal training as is necessary now.

      I can tell you from my experience: I learned about medical coding in 1990 but the market was so saturated that schools were not accepting new students. So my career made a curve into the ER as a secretary. Fast forward just a few years and now I am an empty nester with time on my hands and an unfinished goal to become a certified working medical coder.

    Another question i have is the how to interpret the operative report for sequencing the cpt codes?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  4 місяці тому

      Interpreting operative reports for CPT code sequencing involves carefully reading the entire report to identify the primary procedure performed and any additional services or procedures that were necessary. Always sequence the codes in order of their RVU (most extensive/costly procedures first), with the primary procedure code listed first.

      Yes, you can write in your test booklet and it gets handed in at the end. They only go off the answers on the bubble answer grid, so you can scribble in the booklet itself to your heart's content. :)
