I tried the same in Max 2020 and it was a disaster. The objects were clipping into each other and were jittering like crazy. I tried everything to make it work and nothing seemed to help. Then I finally exported the scene to OBJ, opened Blender 2.80, imported the scene there, set up the simulation there and ran it. It came out perfect!
@@terrorbilly5656 jittering and falling through mesh means low sampling. In massfx tools - world parametars - rigid bodies increase substeps. By default is 0.

Yes u can attach the objects instead of grouping to animate together
