To keep all the deaths he's responsible for from being pointless, he resolves to oppose Nunnaly, his sole reason he went down that path for... And then follows through with his own assination plot to fulfill his goals rather than cling to power. He commits evil for the greater good, knowing that people won't thank and hate him for it.

Hatred towards a family of 'nobles' who wrongly used him/his family name? Check. Mask and usage of alias / secret identity? Check. Ideology with the hopes of human reformation beyond a point of hatred and wars? Check. Talent for rousing speeches? Check. Waging a war to end all wars? Check. Yep, we have a pretty good heroic variant of a Char Clone.

So I may think Lelouch(and the world) would have been better off if he just became a proper Emperor, and would just like to point out once against that literal minutes before him confronting Charles he tried to commit suicide so why C.C. or Suzaku think he should make a plan with his life on the line is beyond me. That being said it's such a beautiful moment of character growth for him to finally put his plans and the people as a whole over Nunnally. Fitting for someone with the power of the King.
Lelouch is a very calculative person and he calculated that the only way to unite people as one,is to gather their hatred and anger in one place then just end it all together,lelouch choose to be that evil that people will be united against. He saw no real use in conquering the world through fear and power and instead he planned to manipulate people's hearts into uniting on their own will

A lot of benevolent dictatorships usually end badly once the dictator is gone since usually the leadership that takes over isn't able to replicate what made them popular in the first place.

I think they want to show Kallen's admiration and loyalty for Zero. Then, when she found out who really Zero is, she somehow became close to him and even wanted to know everything. At some point, they shared their struggles and both wanting to fight for family and friends. But I agree that Gino and Kallen have a chemistry.
