Ok so turns out there is a season 2. I did not know that until recently and I didn't watch it as yet. I'm not sure if there is a better ending there or not though.

Oh I used to watch this on animax! Not the best anime but really enjoyable. I think mostly because it's not a pretentious plot nor trying to be edgy like a lot of isekai anime. Yuri really is a genuinely helpful nice guy no matter which world he's in and people in his party are always being genuine too
Oh how I wish they'd remake this anime....I like the anime but I think it'd be a lot better if the art is remade like nowadays' animes, or like Owari no seraph art(I love that anime's art💕)

I shipped them earlier but as I grew older I couldn't help but think about how toxic their relationship actually is. Like if Yuuri wants to be with girls let him be with girls, he should have no obligation to return Wolfram's feelings.
IKR. Many couples I've admired while younger (even now but I don't realize it until later) I realize how toxic the relationship is and the individual actually are.
Thing is some of the times he isn't really comfortable or doing anything with the girls the only exception being the little girl because she wasn't harassing him
you don't have to see it like that. It's all fiction and we are all allowed to simply hope they bond. It's ok to think with heart rather than minds

I mean, technically it's a shoujo. There are tons of BL overtones everywhere, like not subtle at all. But nothing actually ever happens. A lot of people profess their love to Yuri, but he never openly admits having romantic feelings for anyone else and the only kiss that happens, which we don't actually see, it's in an OVA and only because Wolfram was possessed and it was so that he could activate a machine.

I kind of blame his mom for his behavior. Either she was like this with the men she dated or she was the opposite of this with the men she dated and was alway being left broken hearted. Either way, he learned something from his mom and that’s why he’s like this. Since his mom basically had a parade of men coming in and out of his life all his life, he could also be scared of losing Yuuri and acts this way in an attempt to keep him in his life, not realizing it does the opposite and pushes Yuuri further away. He does genuinely love Yuuri, I just think having witnessed his mother’s love life from a young age has warped his ability to understand what is and isn’t healthy. I mean… he has 2 older brothers and NONE of them share the same father… and in an episode later than this, Wolfram talks about how his mother once put him in addressed, held him in her lap while all her suitors fawned over her, and told Wolfram to “choose mommy’s next boyfriend/husband/lover/whatever.” He was an older toddler then. He can’t have grown up with healthy examples of loving relationships. Not an excuse of course, just what my theory as to why he’s like this.

@@MasterZebulin yeah… with how many man Lady Celi (Wolfram’s mom) had coming and going, there’s no way it didn’t effect him. Like I said, it’s no excuse. He’s being toxic, no matter the reason. But it does make it more understandable as to WHY and later in the series, he does chill a bit more, when Yuuri stops resisting and just starts kind of ignoring his outbursts.
Wolfram’s also noble who was spoiled by his mother and paternal uncle all his life, to the point where his uncle tries to FORCE HIM to be king against his wishes at one point. So he’s not just ACTING like a spoiled brat, he IS a spoiled brat and part of his story is learning to not be like that.
He’s also got fire magic and the 3 people with magic have personalities that are a lot like their elements. The magic healer is kind and caring but also strict when she needs to be. The one with earth magic is level headed and reasonable, one of the most stable characters along side Conrart (the brown haired guy that hides Yuuri and Wolfram). Conrart doesn’t had magic, he’s just a normal dude, so he’s the most “normal” character. The guy that uses wind magic has a soft way of speaking and is very optometrist and energetic, especially when it comes to his passions. As the demon king (Maoh in Japanese), Yuuri cam use fire, water, earth and wind magic and he’s a very rounded character that isn’t as easy to put into one personality type. He’s soft and kind, but also energetic and, when he needs to be, fierce. So Wolfram’s passionate personality and temperament can also be attributed to his magic. Part of his and and the earth magic user’s stories is learning how to be more rounded characters so they can better help Yuuri and by default, the kingdom. They start of having very low opinions of humans, Wolfram flat out HATES them when we first meet him. Then Yuuri adopts a human girl from a human kingdom who tried to kill Yuuri when they first met. Wolfram comes to love her like a daughter as much as Yuuri and Gwendol (the earth magic user and Wolfram’s oldest brother) absolutely adores her as a niece. She’s always baking treats with her and crocheting cute plush animals for her, I think at one point she even mentions him teaching her. This is the same guy that gets upset with Yuuri when he (Yuuri, a boy from our world) asks questions about the daemon world that to Gwendol (but not Yuuri) are obvious.
That’s all just why I think he’s like this. Not an excuse, but from a psychological standpoint, it makes sense that all these things coming together can make him like this. And it works from a narrative standpoint, too. Wolfram starts of toxic and clingy and cringy, but I think it’s meant to show how much he grows as a person over time. Especially in the manga and light novel, where Yuuri does come to return Wolfram’s feelings. It’s part of why he’s my favorite character. He starts as a grumpy, angy gremlin spoiled brat, but by the end he IS someone who is kind and brave and genuinely in love with Yuuri. When Yuuri returns at the end of Season 3 for the first time in a long time, Wolfram isn’t made because he was afraid Yuuri was seeing other people behind his back. He was mad because he was afraid he was never going to see Yuuri again. Even after all his character growth, Wolfram still has trouble with expressing his feelings and easily defaults to yelling as if he’s angry, when really he just doesn’t know or understand what he’s feeling or is feeling to many things at once. He still has a lot of growing to do, but it’s shown that he CAN have growth. I really love his character and how he grows and learns!
