No matter how hard you try as a pdi, when you’re doing role play there’s a part of your brain that knows the driver can drive. It just doesn’t have the same effect as a student who throws random shapes with your car.
"Go ahead, as long as it's safe to do so" and "if in doubt..hang about (wait)!" As a learner driver; were the some of the best bits of advice I ever received.
A tip for pdis, at the 5 min mark if someone asks if they can stop in a yellow box, don't draw a diagram just grab the highway code rule 174, read it out to them and show them the picture. Visual, auditory and reading and writing all in one go.
At 12:01, when the PDI says "....we're gonna go ahead at the next roundabout", wouldn't you need to use the left lane vs using the right hand lane (there was time to pull into the left lane behind the black car) ?
Yes, could have returned to left before black car, however, it’s okay to look to make progress in lane 2. In this case we didn’t get past the black car, but the intent was there. Also, depends on what was going on in lane 1 behind us (was the lane available?). This wouldn’t be a fault on this occasion (in my opinion) but on in another situation yes it would
Hi Howard, Firstly enjoy thje videos and your brilliant when in Role. In this video I never quite heard the accrynm to OAP could you tell please I heard the P for Planning. I am in the process of going through my Part 2 but just had a new arranged test date through and waiting for lessons starting agin so its good watch to recap. Thanks
OAP is a usful tool to structure awareness and planning - Observations / Anticipation / Plan So the pupil may observe the bins are out, they can then anticipate the type of vehicle they may meet around the next corner and start to plan accordingly.
Hi Howard I have always enjoyed your videos few things I have noticed No core competencies, or Fish and no pupil’s involvement , and level of instruction mentioned?
Thanks for watching. Are you referring to the old Part 3 test when you say core competencies? Identify, analyse and remedy? I'm not familiar with Fish, or are you referring to Fish Philosophy! Level of instruction is very important for the PDI to agree with pupil before they start working on the agreed goal. The instructor must monitor this carefully and give more or less input once the lesson is moving.
FISH is about the same as IAR. Facts, Implication, Solution and help. In conversation with the pupil, an examiner won't recognise the difference between either as they both supply the ingredients needed to rectify a fault. I prefer fish because it brings in, what help do you need from me automatically.
Hello, can I use my own car ( modern Nissan Qashqai that has 360 degree cameras) while giving my part 2 test?? I don't have to look all the mirrors while reversing, I only have to see reversing cameras in my dash board of car. can I use this type of car for my part 2 test??
