    I liked this. Forgot my multi-tool Leatherman is also handy in making kindling. I was doing the dry grass method today at the lake. Gathered up a bunch of wood from falling trees and broke them all in to the size I need from my hand-dug fire pit. Used a good strong stick to break the ground apart. Then kept digging. Will use a shovel tomorrow when I go. I will use you method of shaving and all with the knife on my Leatherman. Then I will just use what I find around me on the lake shore of the empty lake to make the rest of the fire.
    I will not tell what I am using, that's a mystery!

    thanks for the video. my roommates are attempting to make a fire now and from this video I can see what they've been doing wrong. There's no air circulation in the tinder as they're just using piles of it on the bottom.

  • @1Aorangi
    @1Aorangi 4 роки тому +1

    If you make a v-shape with the two bottom sticks and point that v in the direction of the wind, which is going right to left in this video, then the wind with blow the fire for you. You can also put a heavier piece on top of the v and create a chimney effect that catches in the wind as the fire is blown up the big piece. Then you can also lean the smaller pieces against the larger log at the back as it catches. This speeds up the burn and keeps the smoke out of your eye and preparation area, as it is blown out the back of the fire, instead of around you. You can build the back wall of the fire as high as you like. It will attract the smoke and fire upwards and help the wind blow it up and away.

    Back in my middle school ages (14 yo) I was a bit crazy. During my camping trip, my teacher told us to race who can make the fastest campfire. I put a lightened match on a paper soaked with correction tape, it burned really quickly and I accidentally burnt my hand, but the burning paper fell on the woods that i prepared earlier. I won the race, though.

    good to see you using an axe rather than batoning for the most part, you don't see this alot anymore with everyone seeming to be addicted to batoning with a knife.
    One 'cheat' would be to use stormproof matches (especially the UCO Titans), they burn for a lot longer than a regular match.
