Not going to lie I really liked this movie. I was really immersed in the atmosphere and ambience of it. It was a good midnight flick. I might even go see it a second time.
Azrael is the angel of death (just Googled it now). Those burnt undead, I assume, are his legions. The people settlement and the pregnant woman (priestess) have a cult, following, believing that the child she bears will save them.. maybe.. But as she gave birth at the end, her horrific reaction and eventual suicide revealed that what they believed is false. The baby was not their to save them, but instead to lead the burnt undead, and probably rule the world. And Samara's character will be her mother of sort. I hope this gets a sequel. Samara is awesome in this movie.
Samara is the modern day scream queen, i hope she gets a long and successful career :) A shame, had hopes for this one.. Think ill have to go with The Mist, 9 or Legion..
Great review Chris and nice to hear differing viewpoints between you and Ruben, rather than just following status quo like other reviewers - looking forward to you guys discussing together! My favourite post-apocalyptic movies to watch are quite old like me "Threads" (UK drama set in 1980s Sheffield) and When the wind blows" (animation) but if you have not seen and if you want something more grounded in realism and interesting than your typical hollywood action take I would consider them a must watch.
My theory about the demons is that they’re the bodies of those people who were raptured. When their souls ascended, they left behind bodies that were not dead (perhaps the taint of original sin minus the soul caused the transformation?)
@RaptureReady-o4i I’m not sure how you missed that this is a movie discussion but regardless, please take your unsolicited advice somewhere else because I don’t want it.
If you read up on the rapture ( Biblically ) it makes a little more sense on what's going on here. After the rapture the world becomes Satan's playground, is demons roam the Earth, terrifying and torturing girls left behind. I'm assuming that Azrael enter fiance, wanted out of the cult?
That's funny you mentioned "The Book of Eli". I literally just watched it last week for the first time in years. It definitely still holds up, plus you gotta love Gary Oldman.
Honestly this movie was terrible. It makes no sense of how Samara had been surviving the past years in the woods without seeming to have experience with the blood cannibals, or the cannibal worshippers. If she did have experience due to the whistling why they have a means of defense or escape established. Why go to a camp full of people with no plan and get distracted reminiscing about a crappy bracelet just to get caught. Why hide under the house. Why are they worshipping blood cannibals. Why during the first sacrifice did only one cannibal show up and why was it so slow. If there's multiple and faster ones where were they at. They would know that area too because of the common sacrifices with blood smell. Why when she got caught in the trap was nobody else there from the 100 people at camp chasing her. Why why whyyyy is this movie so terrible??!!!
I'm bingeing horror movies right now like a lot of people, and unfortunately I've already seen a lot of this in some other things I've watched this year, but done in a more interesting way. I also don't find horror movies involving cults particularly interesting so I might not have been the target audience for this movie to begin with.
@@maneater3491 i consider a film that advocates that any religion is the one true one, or/and that one needs to follow it in order to safe their soul or be a good person to be propagandistic
I wouldn't call it christian propaganda anymore than I would call Thor pagan propaganda. It borrows from abrahamic myth but it's not trying to convince you to become christian or claim that any of it is real.
This is a boring movie. Samara Weaving is decent, but not enough to save this movie. I think this camp birth these creatures/mutants/monsters, and the people are sacrifices to feed the creatures.
It wasn't that bad. No dialogue even better so you don't have to think so hard. Just a pure survival horror. The Rosemary's baby ending makes no sense. These kinda movies it's best not to overthink it. Any explanation would be stupid anyways.

Did we watch the same film? Incredibly memorable.
Oh man I was hoping this movie was better, I’m still gonna watch it though, thanks for the awesome review 👏🏼

I'm looking for both of these, thanks!!
"The Quiet Earth" is my fav post apocalyptic movie.
A boy and his dog is one of my favorite apocalyptic films
Hell yeah! Agreed. Six-String Samurai is another one high on the list :)
Thanks for the honest review.
i love this movie , straight to the point.
LOVED this movie, I can see it being a great trilogy down the line, love cool premises like this

Can't wait to talk about this with you 😅 great review as always dude

Mad Max all the way! I've mentioned before that I could only get half way through The Road, brrrrrr!!!
What?
@@harryosborne8215 too brutally depressing. Couldn't continue. Similar with Sound of Freedom.
Thx I will watch it because it stars Samara Weaving, who is always great, even in bad or mediocre movies. 🎥
Thanks for posting this video.
"I like "Apocolypse" with Richard Harris...It's old, but good!"
Without spoiler is there cannibalism in the movie ? And the monsters are ghosts or demons ?
Thanks for the review. I was going to watch it, but will wait. I would have to say Mad Max is my fav.
Still interested in a discord?
Sweet! And yes, I just joined 😁
@@MoviesAndMunchies Let me know if you need anything added or removed. and get Ruben joined in lol.

Saw it in theater back in the day. Not bad actually but Denzel trying to transport a book is ridiculous. Gary Oldman is a legend.
Awesome
Starting of your review with saying a world where no one Speaks? What about the driver?

Whoa awesome I totally was not expecting you to review this gore fest indie horror thanks!!
Not a movie but an anime TV series. "Future Boy Conan/未来少年コナン" is my post apocalyptic pick.

The village was more like a cult
Great 👍 thriller movie
Az-ray-el, vs Oz-ree-all two very different Angels.
This film trailer intrigued me. Hmmm...
Well, I enjoyed this movie.
The road
The Omega Man
Yes! I agree with EVERYTHING you said! The movie felt... hallow. I really wanted more. 2/5.
so it just uses religious mythology and isnt a christian propaganda film?
sounds like itd be worth a watch for me then
If it's going for propaganda, it's completely missing the mark. They just use the rapture as the impetus for the characters' situation.
Well propaganda is just a projection or interpretation it's up for you if you can call it a propaganda or not

found this movie to be boring as hell, the silence thing just ruined it for me :P wasted time
A terrible movie could care less about any of the characters.
I thought it was good
