The performance for Alastair Grey provides a fantastic portrayal of being an antimemetic creature that imperfectly mimics a human, clearly enough to fool at first but soon becoming increasingly alien
I can't get over how perfectly every character was portrayed. Grey was unnatural, Marion was badass, Paul was weak but competent, and O5-8 was just the right amount of not quite normal.
I'd say stop hanging on to that. It doesn't really matter. The scene was for Marion to explain antimemes and to show she's in control. O5 and Clay passed in the background.

This really just highlights to me that an SCP TV show with a big budget, good writers, and great studio would be a gold mine. I mean this is a smaller team and its already outstanding! Imagine what a project with a bigger backing could do. One can dream...

ALL of the casting is pretty on point imo. This is one of the only story adaptations that im not like ‘wait wtf why do they look like that?’ But wheelers actor is definitely PERFECT for the part
WOOO FINALLY ANTIMEMETICS I do sorta wish it mentioned the idea that when you join antimemetics, you can't get better at it, your abilities are the same if you've been working there for years as when you first join. It's your confidence in yourself and your abilities and your own mind that make you able to do the job. You don't second guess yourself, even if it seems impossible or you don't know how else something could of happened, you do not second guess yourself.
Yeah! But there are forms of training that can get embedded into you, kinda like trauma-response that would def help in a situation like Paul and Grey!
The antimemetics division is my favorite because of two major things: its fleshed out atory, and that one of my greatest fears is forgetting something important.
The fact that the SCP Foundation is not a TV series or ANYTHING of the sort is still baffling to me. Quite literally infinite potential for stories and there's rarely anything done with it. Stuff like this and other short films are what I dream of and with THIS as the first episode? Holy crud, this is gonna be stellar.
The main issue of the SCP Foundation is its license structure. It's the good thing about this massive collaborative writing project (but also is not copyrightable)

My biggest character flaw is watching and reading good SCP articles then accidentally taking the ideas into my own work without even realizing it. I swear I'm not stealing ideas, on purpose I'm just an idiot! Holy hell, I knew exactly what was going to happen with the encounter but it was built so well I still felt the tension. THIS IS AMAZING!

We thought it was the best way to make people understand the heavy exposition part from part 1 with the practical "what is an antimeme anomaly" experience of part 2
I wish it had been a little bit longer to include things like Marian’s explanation of how she knew the O5’s assistant was an antimeme, and the “How was your mother” and “How is your father” parts of Alester Grey, but overall this was amazing. Grey is *exactly* how I imagine him from the tale, and while I imagine Wheeler as being a little bit older, this portrayal absolutely nailed it for me. Looking forward to the next episode!
the casting for marion is EXACTLY HOW I IMAGINED HER TO LOOK LIKE I love this so much, very well directed and acted and the sets are great too I wish it cut out a little less from the book but I understand if you just couldn't make some things work either way, this is my favorite book ever and I really hope you do the entire thing pretty pleaseeeeee :D

Makes sense to me. Only an anomaly would accept, without question, so paltry an excuse for nourishment, such a mockery of a meal as to be found categorically wanting for anything remotely resembling flavor. No one with functional taste buds could be satisfied by this so-called food.

About halfway into this, I had this thought: Now this is the real reason I got into horror. Not the gore, splatter and jump scares - but being faced with the weird, the mysterious and ideas that give you that feeling you sometimes get when treading water over some real deep part of the ocean and it hits you that you have absolutely no idea what's underneath you. Big kudos to everyone involved! The sets, script, acting, music, directing, filming, lighting - chef's kiss, just spot on!
I am a little sad they didn't have wheeler explain how they knew the assistant was fake... Super excited for this to continue though, I love the antimemetics division!
They did, kinda, she said that they only way he wouldn’t have taken his daily pill is by someone/something stopping him from taking it. She probably assumed it was the assistant, maybe she knew he didn’t have an assistant or just lucky
@@terriblej6107 In this short film you definitely need to do a little more mental gymnastics because these things aren't explicitly said, but in the book the process by which Marion found out is very thoroughly explained. In the book, she... - Understood that you can't skip a dose of mnestics without being prevented from doing so - Realized the assistant is the only one close enough who could do it (these first 2 are the only ones mentioned here) - Asked him how long he worked there, to which he didn't answer - Looked at the office and noticed there is only one desk - Realized that the receptionist outside is the one managing the O5's contacts, meaning Clay doesn't fit into the hierarchy.

I was JUST thinking about how much I wanted an adaptation of this series into a TV show or movie. I like the way you combined the two shorts to sorta parallel them and help have one exposit for the other. I do wish there were a few more details from the original stories shown off in both but I think that this is a really solid adaptation!
totally understandable. I imagine things like trying to make Mr. Grey show up through walls and furniture would be a nightmare on a low budget. Still a great adaptation though!

This short film perfectly captures the atmosphere and style I imagined while reading the SCP stories it's based on. The cinematography is outstanding, and every detail feels true to the source material. Jeffery Richards' performance stood out-his character is genuinely unsettling, yet so captivating that I found myself wishing for more scenes with him. There's just something about his presence that adds a unique charm to the film. Amazing work by the entire team!
When SCP came out, I fell in love with the idea of anti-memetics, and the concept of a team that was trained to be so mentally robust as to withstand mental assaults like this. Then the story came out and it was wonderful! Some of the best writing that came from SCP wiki. And now we have it being "put to film", so to speak. What hits so hard with all this is that I have forgotten the story. It has been so long ago. So when I watch this I get a slight feeling of deja vu, like.. I feel like I know this already, but it is simultaneously brand new. This is the most perfect way to watch this.
I've literally for the past month been putting together in my mind how someone would go about making this into a series of short films, as this is far and away my favourite series of tales from the foundation! I'm so happy that someone actually did it! And with such weirdly perfect timing! That is unless up until 13 hours ago my name used to be Andrea, which is a concerning thought
Ok. This is the best SCP piece of media i have seen. The other short movies are great, but this is the only one that taps into the sheet weirdness and existential horror of SCP. I really hope this gets many more views.
Jeffrey Richards stole the show as Grey! What in hell man, his portrayal is above and beyond! I love the added mannerisms like when he checks his watch during the languages part. And the soundtrack! Dear lord, it couldn't have been better! The deep thrumming with those disjointed melodies and the drums! The climax was abit lacking though, but I enjoyed the creative take where he recoils and freezes after becoming temporarily decommisioned. Wish that part was longer, like just hold the shot of him unmoving, head and body knocked to one side, while Paul stares in shock. That would've really been the cherry on top!
Oh my god, this is.. genius, the "plot twist" at the end, unexpected yet, logical to think about, I can only say i absolute lover this first episode, i am excited to see the rest of them
figured I should comment here and not just on twitter :P Amazing series! Honestly forgot I was on youtube when I finished the episode first time around, it feels better than some shows I'd see on a streaming site.
This entire short goes SO HARD. The actor for Wheeler is absolutely acing it, it’s so nice to see a focus on the foundation itself as opposed to the MTFs. There Is No Antimemetics Divison is one of the best Hubs on the site, and I’m very exited to see more of this in action!
Great rendition of my favorite SCP story. I always envisioned the setting like in Severance, and Sigourney Weaver as Wheeler. :) Richards was perfect. LIke a combination of Antony Starr and Jon Hamm. I'd love to see him in a bigger movie.
As someone who has watched way too much SCP content and read at least ~1000 pages on the SCP archive I have to say that the production quality of this short film is on a whole other level. Also, I've always felt like the memetic SCP's are undervalued compared to some of the more "monster of the week" style SCPs and am so glad that there's now a film like this showing how cool they are. All that to say, thank you for creating what is now my favorite or second favorite (haven't decided yet) SCP piece of media. Looking forward to 4/3/24!!!
I’m so happy I got this recommendation. I didn’t think anyone else was trying to do high-quality film SCP story adaptations! The ones I knew was like SCP: Overlord as short films, but I am so happy to see the effort and quality put into something so deeply underrated! The sets are very great, the script is amazing, literally the only complaint I ever have in the videos is some aspects on the acting, but that can always be improved on! You just got a sub from me :).
This is SO dang amazing. I listened to the Discovering SCP-episodes on There Is No Antimemetics Division and loved it ever since. This video and the ones to follow will allow me to experience it again in a whole new way! Good luck with the production!
4 months late but I have to say this, Alastair Grey's performance was absolutely mindblowing. From his way of walking, voice, to even his uncanny facial expressions which was interpreted in such a PERFECT way. Enjoyed every second of it!
One of my favorite SCP stories, and one of my favorite QNTM stories, ahead of Fine Structure. The actress playing Marion Wheeler is perfect, exactly like how I imagined her being.
Antimemetics is my favorite SCP canon (alongside Pitch Haven of course). qntm is a legend. This is _crazy._ Easily the most difficult SCP adaptation to do imo. I'm working on a _Capone_ (1471) animation with Fantem + some other buddies, but it's yknow... like... freshman art school project compared to this.

I do sorta wish it mentioned the idea that when you join antimemetics, you can't get better at it, your abilities are the same if you've been working there for years as when you first join. It's your confidence in yourself and your abilities and your own mind that make you able to do the job. You don't second guess yourself, even if it seems impossible or you don't know how else something could of happened, you do not second guess yourself.
Yeah! But there are forms of training that can get embedded into you, kinda like trauma-response that would def help in a situation like Paul and Grey!

The fact that the SCP Foundation is not a TV series or ANYTHING of the sort is still baffling to me. Quite literally infinite potential for stories and there's rarely anything done with it. Stuff like this and other short films are what I dream of and with THIS as the first episode? Holy crud, this is gonna be stellar.
The main issue of the SCP Foundation is its license structure. It's the good thing about this massive collaborative writing project (but also is not copyrightable)

I wish it had been a little bit longer to include things like Marian’s explanation of how she knew the O5’s assistant was an antimeme, and the “How was your mother” and “How is your father” parts of Alester Grey, but overall this was amazing. Grey is *exactly* how I imagine him from the tale, and while I imagine Wheeler as being a little bit older, this portrayal absolutely nailed it for me.

About halfway into this, I had this thought: Now this is the real reason I got into horror. Not the gore, splatter and jump scares - but being faced with the weird, the mysterious and ideas that give you that feeling you sometimes get when treading water over some real deep part of the ocean and it hits you that you have absolutely no idea what's underneath you. Big kudos to everyone involved! The sets, script, acting, music, directing, filming, lighting - chef's kiss, just spot on!
This is the reason why we love the SCP foundation. The cosmic/psychological horror of it is what we like

They did, kinda, she said that they only way he wouldn’t have taken his daily pill is by someone/something stopping him from taking it. She probably assumed it was the assistant, maybe she knew he didn’t have an assistant or just lucky
@@terriblej6107 In this short film you definitely need to do a little more mental gymnastics because these things aren't explicitly said, but in the book the process by which Marion found out is very thoroughly explained.
In the book, she...
- Understood that you can't skip a dose of mnestics without being prevented from doing so
- Realized the assistant is the only one close enough who could do it (these first 2 are the only ones mentioned here)
- Asked him how long he worked there, to which he didn't answer
- Looked at the office and noticed there is only one desk
- Realized that the receptionist outside is the one managing the O5's contacts, meaning Clay doesn't fit into the hierarchy.

also the explanation for where she got the gun. "It's tricky to steal a firearm this heavy from someone without them noticing," Marion explains, unloading it and carefully setting it down. "But stealing a firearm and then stealing their memory of the theft is a little easier."

I was JUST thinking about how much I wanted an adaptation of this series into a TV show or movie. I like the way you combined the two shorts to sorta parallel them and help have one exposit for the other. I do wish there were a few more details from the original stories shown off in both but I think that this is a really solid adaptation!
We had to cut down to the essentials for budget and time reasons, sadly. Also, some stuff was very difficult to translate from the book!
totally understandable. I imagine things like trying to make Mr. Grey show up through walls and furniture would be a nightmare on a low budget. Still a great adaptation though!

This short film perfectly captures the atmosphere and style I imagined while reading the SCP stories it's based on. The cinematography is outstanding, and every detail feels true to the source material. Jeffery Richards' performance stood out-his character is genuinely unsettling, yet so captivating that I found myself wishing for more scenes with him. There's just something about his presence that adds a unique charm to the film. Amazing work by the entire team!

When SCP came out, I fell in love with the idea of anti-memetics, and the concept of a team that was trained to be so mentally robust as to withstand mental assaults like this.
Then the story came out and it was wonderful! Some of the best writing that came from SCP wiki.
And now we have it being "put to film", so to speak.
What hits so hard with all this is that I have forgotten the story. It has been so long ago. So when I watch this I get a slight feeling of deja vu, like.. I feel like I know this already, but it is simultaneously brand new. This is the most perfect way to watch this.
So meta hahaha loved it!
I've literally for the past month been putting together in my mind how someone would go about making this into a series of short films, as this is far and away my favourite series of tales from the foundation! I'm so happy that someone actually did it! And with such weirdly perfect timing!

Jeffrey Richards stole the show as Grey! What in hell man, his portrayal is above and beyond!
I love the added mannerisms like when he checks his watch during the languages part.
And the soundtrack! Dear lord, it couldn't have been better! The deep thrumming with those disjointed melodies and the drums!
The climax was abit lacking though, but I enjoyed the creative take where he recoils and freezes after becoming temporarily decommisioned.
Wish that part was longer, like just hold the shot of him unmoving, head and body knocked to one side, while Paul stares in shock. That would've really been the cherry on top!
Oh my god, this is.. genius, the "plot twist" at the end, unexpected yet, logical to think about, I can only say i absolute lover this first episode, i am excited to see the rest of them

As someone who has watched way too much SCP content and read at least ~1000 pages on the SCP archive I have to say that the production quality of this short film is on a whole other level. Also, I've always felt like the memetic SCP's are undervalued compared to some of the more "monster of the week" style SCPs and am so glad that there's now a film like this showing how cool they are. All that to say, thank you for creating what is now my favorite or second favorite (haven't decided yet) SCP piece of media. Looking forward to 4/3/24!!!
