This was probably the best evolution of romance I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing on TV. Truly exquisite. What a bittersweet ending

I will admit I found this romance very moving, very real. A situation where there is nothing you can do to make things perfect. I cried like a baby during the last episode.
I did too. I couldn't stop. Their chemistry was amazing on the show.
Think all of us who have known that scenario of the right person, wrong life times and circumstances... Or even those who don't, bawled at that beautiful finale... Ha. Their chemistry is just so beautifully grounded and natural.
The series finale had me bawling like a baby; I think it’s because you’re right - there are those who have been in this situation (and that’s why it hit us so hard) - right person, wrong time.
@@AngelaFerrannini Absolutely. Its one of the most heartbreaking goodbyes ever to say to someone when, in any other stage of life if without obstecles..you might otherwise work...And im a hopeless romantic at the best of times so.... This made me an emotional blob... 😂

I rewatched the 1st series today, and noticed even then Spiro was smitten with Louisa. They're so completely perfect for each other!
Louisa and Spiros were just perfect together, their friendship, the chemistry and just everything. This was such a nice video capturing their relationship.

Keeley Hawes is so wonderful and lovable in her role as mrs Durrell. The chemistry between her and my countryman Alexis is so good. Τhis is an especially good series with great performances.
The chemistry between Mrs durell and Spiro is very very hard to express in words. Completely moved by their love story.... It is pure love.... The last episode of they parting from each other was quite moving....
These two kill me, even now...they always will. I was rooting for them from S1!!! ♥️ Beautiful video

When I read "My family and other animals" it never occurred to me there might be any romance between the mother and Spiro. Actually they are both portrayed in a quite unfavourable light: both ridicule and ancient. It took many years and this series to realise that mother Durrell was around 40, which means a great time for a woman! I wonder if they took a liberty and wrote this romance into the plot or there was something... (which would make this love story quite tragic since there was WW2 and they fled to England,.all without Spiro)
No. Nothing between Spiros and her. After she left the island before the war, he died. Even his daughter confirmed there was nothing there but friendship.

Ten Spiro to jakiś wymysł reżysera! Ani wygląd, ani charakter, nic się nie zgadza. Spiro był prostym człowiekiem, który uwielbiał panią Durrel, ale nic ponadto. Był jej przyjacielem, który ją wspierał i pomagał jej. Nie było romansu. Takie przeinaczanie jest haniebne!

Dzieci nie widza swoich rodzicow jako ludzi zdolnych do romansow, wiec moze jednak czterdziestoletnia pani Durrell mogla stracic dla kogos glowe na Korfu? (Oprocz ksiazek kucharskich, oczywiscie). Jasne, Spiro wydaje sie ostatnia osoba - on zdaje sie mial byc urodziwy jak Hefajstos, biedaczek.

All I remember is that it ocurrs on season 1. Probably one of the last episodes, because she was dating Sven.

Except this never happened. Spiro was married.
So sad - he was married. In real life his wife and children would have been with him all the times they had celebrations on the island - but his family was always missing. On a real Greek island, he would have been more discreet since tongues wag very fast on those islands - especially during that time period. It is not like it is in the rest of Western Europe. Decorum rules every action. He would have been condemned by the priest for always being with the Durrells, and showing her public affection, and his wife and family always being absent. This just never would have happened in real life - not if he didn't want to be an outcast on the island in which case his business would have dried up.
In the book which this is based on Spiro was always around. No romance though. I guess he was just trying to feed his family by working for them
