If you're just looking for hats to wear, try taking two Halloween restricted untradable cosmetics and crafting them into one, the hat you get will be untradeable, but it won't be Halloween restricted.

A gacha addiction *IS* different than a gambling addiction, right?..
Right?
What else do you do with weapons from drop that you already have
@@rotta4667 As new to this as you are I think, but from what I can tell you can craft class tokens and class slots in order to craft other weapons.
@@minnabaru341 i know those bc i have started tf2 years ago, and you get weapons from drop so i dont have any weapons to craft. I aint new
I mean when I first crafted one I got a Spartan helmet for solider so I’m ok with it
Rebuilding headgear is more profitable, sometimes the 2 hats cost less than 3 ref combined.
that actually makes sense lmao
@@snakebae6259 correct.
In that case it might be more worthwhile to buy low cost hats to craft, instead of using 3 ref.
I mean the typical craft hat is 1.22, so 2.44 ref is pretty good
I was gonna comment this
And also important: crafting hats uses up met, which makes refined (fractionally) more valuable so crafting hats actually helps the economy
Shhhh, don't let the bots hear that
True by reducing from an already massive supply even by 0.0001% increases demand for ref, i mean hell if Valve would only add new craft items or do special crafting events like that of the golden wrench event then the ref supply would be worth something as the supply flies in and out of demand
I mean fuck it the community should orchestrate crafting events just to burn a hole into the shit ton of ref supply that already exists and see the effects with bucket of popcorn and some fried chicken
@@speckielishouspie8942 Not to mention, crafting will also cause price fluctuations of hats as well since crafting a hat increases the total supply, thus causing different hats to be worth more or less.
Also: Hat rebuilding could be really valuable for increasing the demand of certain hats simply by taking a small portion of those hats out of the economy. Of course, unlike crafting. Rebuilding will most likely cost the one doing it a lot of money. Which is why collectors kits are really good(although I don't know if those exists for hats, but if they do.) Then the kits cause an decrease in supply while also creating an extremely valuable item as well.

Don't craft hats with 3 ref. Buy 2 craft hats for 2.88 and combine them. save a scrap. its not much, but if youre doing a lot, the difference would amaze you.
So would one ref, 1 reclaim and 1 scrap
holy shit
Although he talked about rebuilding headgear, you could simply trade 2.44 (1.22 per craft hat) in order to maximize profits.
I spent all of my 150 refined metal on crafting hats. Luckily for me, I don’t give a shit about trading anymore
Same, I´ve been playing since 2013 and I think I´ve been using the same hats I had from 2015, so I just have tons of refined metal in my backpack
@@Mizra-dq3lj if your not into trading, this is huge benefit for yourself
@@Mizra-dq3lj You should just use them to craft a bunch of stuff or melt it for key(s) and maybe you can sell the key to buy something you actually want. Just a suggestion though :D

When I was under 100 hours of tf2 I used scrap and stuff like an idiot to craft shit

it’s not always very good though.

Sometimes spinning the wheel is fun
It's odd how engineer body cosmetics cost so much more than others
I love craft hats. The cosmetics from the craft able hats era of tf2 were quite stylistically different than they are now.
It was before we had many hats long ago
I actually had a good crafting experience when I started crafting hats, I got jungle booty and a villian vile which were 4 ref a few months ago
It becomes a sort of logical loop; If using refined metal for crafting isn't worth it, then it has no value outside of trading but If it has no other value then nobody is going to want it, which means it becomes worthless and you might as well use it to craft, which means it has some value again.
Wut
Until you realize actual real world currency has no real value except what we all agree that it has. Same applies for ref.

I will say though, that there is still some good info in it so it may be worth it to give it a watch regardless.
Great video bro, keep it up!
Top craft #37 collector here, can confirm craft number collectors should usually not be a consideration. The scene is extremely small, and you're likely gonna have 1 person on the planet who cares about that specific hat or number, and chances are you'll end up making a bit more, but not exactly a fortune. The market is so niche that you kind of are at the whim of the literal 1 guy who is interested.
"Keys were around 10 ref when I started"
Boy I remember when keys were a whole 2.33 ref. Yep, 2 ref and a rec got you an entire key. Hell that's when buds were still relevant because trades were only 8 items tops.
You could have crafted more hats if you bought a bunch of craft hats off scrap.tf, (1.33-1.44 per hat) and then just recrafted them (you would have made about 112 hats at 2.66 each instead of 100 hats at 3 ref each) 🤷🏻♂️
I just do it for fun from time to time, i'm really not looking for profit.
You could buy the cheapest 2 hats and then combine them, thus making it less expensive then 3 ref to craft one hat
what's the map he's playing on called? Or what's the server he's playing on called?
Me a f2p: Hmmm this is interesting but I cant even craft hats lmao.
take the premium pill by buying 2 keys, trading those for metal, and getting many hats
Yeah I have a $20 steam giftcard but cant activate it cuz i need a credit card.
I bought a single sandman for 49 cents from the mann co store. My backpack is worth a good bit more then that so I've made a profit on TF2 I guess?
Great video. I was thinking about this cuz I come from the olden days of trading where it was dumb as fuck to craft hats. and was actually pretty common to buy keys just through crafting some refined - took a few weeks/months but yeah.
You have made good content, you have won subscriber
You forgot to mention the technique where you buy cheap hats for 1.33 ref and combine them.
This way you are paying 2.66 ref to craft a new hat instead of 3 ref, which is a preety big difference tbh.

The possible hats you can craft on the wiki is 432 atm. But this is so far off. Summer 2013, winter 2013, specific crate hats and some promo hats can also be crafted wich are missing on the wiki. After crafting about 500 hats I ended up with about half being non duplicates. For anyone wondering about profits, I only check once during this. 630 refined got me 498 refined of hat value
I remember that time I crafted 8 ref cosmetic from three refs I got when trading cases. This was one of my favorite moments in tf2 ngl.
I had no idea it was this cheap I might just do this so I can stop looking like a free to play lol
Same bro I'm not trying to profit I just want some options to wear
A few weeks ago I crafted a team captain(8.22 ref), so that's neat
Back in my day keys were a couple Ref.. damn if only I had the power of foresight I’d be rolling in it just from TF2s market
I left in 2018 and holy shit when did the Schadenfraude turn to 2.5 keys
people like to piss other people off i guess
"If you're a fan of gambling"
thank you for including this qualifier as I am definitely not a fan of gambling but the video is still fun to watch.
Refined at the time I post this is SEVENTY+ for a key. I remember when keys were 2.33. I also remember when the game would drop more weapons/hats along side a shit ton of crates so you had a chance of getting ref to either trade or craft hats with. 90-95% of the time I only get crates now. So imagine being a new player, just installed, too young to get a job or whatever, you're fucked. You're just fucked unless you keep the game running 24 hours a day and are in one of those idle servers.
One issue, valve doesn’t really care about the hat economy. I would say crafting hats is more like mining than gambling. Hats will always cost 3 refined to craft, so market conditions can get to a state where crafting hats and rebuilding headgear is absolutely worth it.
Also, rebuilding extra Halloween headgear is worth it because you can’t even sell them.
But if you craft it, it still becomes untradeable, yes?
[Deleted] if an ingredient can’t be traded, than the result can’t as well. People tend to get quite a bit of Halloween cosmetics, so rebuilding is a way to get other cosmetics when you have duplicate Halloween cosmetics. It is worth it in the sense of collecting cosmetics to wear.

I just traded my antarctic eyewear for a dead of night. Wow
That’s such a good trade you could be considered a shark in the trading community
I actually sold 2 dollars worth of tickets and changed them to ref to buy stuff I liked. Then I just said fuck it and crafted hats and I wasn't expecting anything and out of the 30 ref I used I was happy for the craft hats. I got decently no duplicates and it was a mix of new and old hats which was interesting.
I actually crafted 2 dead of nights a while back. I've still got them as I've retired from trading and was just looking to clear out a few refined I had lying around.
How do you surf on turns like that? Do you press the opposite key you would when turning in the air? Or is it something else?
It's high likely the server because the map is originally from CS:GO (if i'm not mistaken) where you look to the side you want to go to and hold the corresponding key (A or D)
I see the 80-20 rule is in action with the hat values
I'll never forget my young days when I got a dead of night and rebuilt it with that one spiral knight hat and got a pissy untradable leftover trap
Actually, one of the only trading I did was crafting hats and reselling. It was a simple trading experience, but I liked it at the time because I really liked the feeling of making a little profit and crafting hats. I would keep some hats I liked and maybe add them to my loadout.
your surfing skills are impressive
I mean, I once got the samurai cosmetic for demoman. It was like 18 Ref, however It was like 70% hats under 3 ref
In the scream fortress event you can get free cosmetics, you can rebuild those into into non scream fortress only cosmetics but it's not tradable from what i remember
My third hat craft was a xeno suit for scout
It’s the Alien item
holy shut
when i crafted a hat i got the weight room warner for 3 refined or whatever it was called, is it worth it?
3rd craft hat was an all father. thank you so fucking much for bringing this to my attention!!!
After this video, i went to craft 2 hats. 1 of them is xeno suit(4.3 ref) the other is hong kong cone(11ref). So thanks for the video, i made quite a profit
imagine crafting hats for profit.

I LOVE PUTTING MY HARD EARNED MONEY UP TO GAMES OF CHANCE RELATED TO VIRTUAL METAL AND HATS
I really love crafting the set hats, I have some Bonk Boys and moon backpacks, so i am doing great
"Whoever tries to win money through gambling is stupid"
Casino owners:
Imagine if valve added a very low chance when crafting hat a new type of quality hat that has Unusual like Effects,
It would probably reduce the price of keys in refined
Rebuilding Headgear is good if you get a halloween only item from halloween crates, because you can get a non-restricted item.
I feel like crafting hats is a good way for new people to get *some* cosmetics, regardless of "rarity". 1 key = 1 chest opening = 1 cosmetic, OR 1 key = (now) 70 ref = 23 hats.
Some of my favorite cosmetics are craftable, too, and they can inspire outfits that you can get if you wanna spend some more.
as someone with less than 50 hours at this point, and can care less about if I don’t profit, just crafting hats can just help me get some pretty cool loadouts
where did you buy the refined metal from
I’ve been crafting hats for awhile got some lower priced medic cosmetics, some 3 ref price spy cosmetics, and a Killer’s Kabuto which is around 2 dollars
I may try this soon! I want some new cosmetics but don't quite know what
To maximize profit buy 2 craft hats that are 1.33 each and rebuild them
Also good luck!
I just recently got into trading, before that I actually crafted a single hat from refined metal melted from items. Weirdly enough, it was a hat that's worth at least 4 refined metal so the one time I crafted a cosmetic I ended up making a slight profit.
Probably never going to do that again though.
I crafted a Heat of Winter on like, my third ever crafting attempt and didn’t know until watching this video just now that it was worth anything.
I just crafted the "level three chin", and crafted the "dead of night" yesterday (a hat i was looking for a long time). I think it was worth it
I crafted two profit hats in a row ;) (Gone Commando for 4 ref, and The Stoch Saver for 9.11 ref, i decided to keep Gone Commando cuz it looks cool with my loadout and the stoch saver maked it up for it)
What if you only craft cosmetics to have them as cosmetics? Is it better to rebuild if you don’t like what you got?
if im just looking to get cosmetics without using money, should i craft with my refined metal or sell it?
I don't care about profit, I just want hats in funny hat simulator
anyone know what server he is using to do that like running course?
Sentry Buster is just a fancy way of saying "Suicide Bomber".
Indeed
when I did crafting a few days ago (starting with3 ref and a lot of luck) I got 2 all-fathers and a subzero (that was the only good stuff) and then i bought a scout taunt I wanted 😎
Dude ive been in college, and that first 100 hat run literally followed the 80 20 rule: where 20 percent of your hats were 80 percent the value
Man I miss the good ol' days when keys were 2.5 refined.
Oh and you can dupe stuff
The thing for me is that I'm not really trying to profit off of it, I have very few cosmetics and I want to make my mercs look nice.
I crafted a buck turner all stars not too long ago and didnt even realize it was worth much
Does anyone know where to buy refined?
Tbh dead of night was a good 30 ref profit
Edit : I crafted a buck turner all stars and hey I am not regret it at all my scout looks epic
If you use the refabricate option, you can craft a new hat with 2 hats worth 1.33 ref, making it even more likely to make profit.
I never had a cosmetic other than the Party Hat and the Gibus so…
Worth it for now
