On one hand, I can understand why the special order bag is so special to you. On the other hand, it really is just a bag that you don't use that often - seriously consider selling it and then buying another Hermes bag, Kelly or Birkin, in a different color combination - one that you really will use. Sometimes we place way too much emotional value into these items and they prevent us from making logical choices.

I stopped wearing anything on my wrists and fingers ever since my son was born, now he’s 22! 😂 I resume wearing Apple Watch and bracelets.
Like you said, at the time (we were all there with you) it was impossible to know whether you would get your gold birkin or not! Ending up with 2 birkins is way better than ending up with 0! Also that special order is so so special and like the other commenters said, it can be something that is passed down to your baby girl in the future and that story is so special - this way you also don’t have to worry about babying it since you can use the other.
Also, I think as time goes on and the current Birkin gets that slouchy droopy worn-in look, the S/O will be more ‘formal’ and elegant for you to use. The Barenia one will look more casual!
Omg, I totally understand your thoughts behind the two birkins! I feel like we are very similar bc I always wanna downsize my collection and keep what's absolutely necessary! Wow the barenia looks fabulous on screen. I had to take my Barenia Halzan to the spa as I had a spot on it . Curious to know how it will patina with time as mine has scratches all over but the Halzan probably has a lot more hand handling
The barenia just looks and feels so much more luxurious! Even though I had the gold birkin on my wishlist, I use the barenia more! I can’t wait to see how it wears as well! Will find out soon as I am using it quite regularly. At least I have my gold birkin to use if the barenia goes to spa or gets too patina’d over time that it doesn’t look good anymore😆 Thanks babe!!
Hello Isabelle, you’re looking lovely! Clearly baby C is letting you get some well deserved sleep. I don’t blame you for doing what you did with the So and the berenia bags. The SO one does look a bit more formal with the non contrast stitching if you wanted two in a tan color (and nothing wrong with that if you love tans - they are different, but I agree with another commenter that it is the perfect bag to pass down to your sweet daughter when the time comes. It is after all associated with her time of birth. It will be a lovely keepsake for her. No one thinks it’s odd for someone to have black a classic flap in caviar and another in lambskin. Just think of it in the same way as that.

Can you share how much you paid for each of the tan birkin?
On camera the gold on gold Birkin looks a little warmer and softer, more muted, it makes a nice summer neutral and the barenia leather more autumnal so maybe change them with the seasons to get more wear from them both… and less wear and tear on them too.
I think you should keep the Hermes watch it will look stunning with the handbags.
Aw both bags are beautiful but the darker Birkin is so rich and perfectly made. I can totally understand why you now wish you had ordered something different for your SO but you had no idea then you were going to be offered something so similar :)
