You can proc quicksilver execution (mortal wounds) with the captains sweeping advance ( end of fight phase move) in the opponents turn because the wording for QE is "after the unit ends a normal move" which means it is not phase locked
no probably about it, you 100% can, just remember it cannot be done on a fall back move. which often times will be the type of move used on the sweeping advance ability

About the not having an anti keyword against them, anti fly can be an issue for them. An armiger helvrin for example with 8 2+ anti fly, flat 3 dmg attacks and -2 ap from either a castigator or squire’s duty could do some damage on them in numbers
0 issue, ap1 against a 2+ in cover, not a care in the world. and the anti keyword takes them from wounding on 3's to 2's. it is such a non issue
Bikes have the mounted key word, but they also have the fly key word which means that there is enough anti fly stuff when you play in a mainly marine meta
yeah but who cares about anti fly if its not connected to dev wounds. its pretty irrelevent on the weapons that have that ability
@ that’s true, but I’ve also had a void dragon torn apart by anti fly before, so I don’t think it’s something to be completely dismissed.
void dragon does not have a 2+ armor save with cover against those ap1 weapons. trust me it really does not matter

Great video! One small edit is that the Strat in Solar is only Pile-in D3+3 inches, you cannot use it to consolidate. I am also salty about it.

Mortal wound exclude vehicles and monsters :) but great video... taking my vertus to my next RTT 3 with capt and 2x2... shield host 2x2 makes actions and can skirmish with smaller units
I haven't tried the captain yet because of cost, but yeh the ability is appealing and I want to try it out, it also potentially working with the mortal wound bomb (which I have struggled to trigger so far) makes me want to try it, plus the 3 bikes + Captain means potentially 8 mortal wounds which could also mean you could advance, clear a chaff 5 man unit of infiltrators etc. even without needing to shoot them. Stephen Box from VT, like a mad lad took 9 bikes and 9 venatari to LVO, with each bike squad led by a Captain, and managed to go 4-1-1 which is pretty impressive. I honestly think they are too expensive to lean into them like he did, but I think 3 + Captain, whilst an expensive blob has some really powerful tools. I mean really it's like a 400 point unit that only has 21 attacks at S7, AP2, D2. You compare that to like Dante and 6 San Guard they have 39 attacks at AP3 naturally and D2, at S8 and S10, so I really think you need that shield host buff of either +1 AP or crit 5s and probably taking the damage of the captain to D3. They just have that advantage over 'deathstar' blobs that you can essentially do a damage run for free that hopefully allows you to trade better.
yeah that once per game ability is super strong IF you can use it at the right time. I do believe ALL the shield captains likely need to come down in cost by 20 points or so however
I loved Vertus Praetors in 9th edition. I been using them reliably instead of Allarus Terms since the latest change. Good in both Shield Host and (to some extent) in Solar Spearhead, charging through walls and being a mid-toughness annoyance. AND they don't have Infantry or Vehicle keywords, so weapons with anti- aren't as good against them!

The fix to bikes may not have been perfect, but it was good enough. I lack all the FW units, so l do have extra points to run a unit of 3 and 2 jetbike cpts. I like them enough. They feel oddly slow on local tables , l know they are faster , then wardens with BC , but l often end up with them being 1-2" short. But it is probably my skill level issue .
Well not necessarily! Because remember, the BC and wardens can walk through walls! Which even though they may M less distance, since their path is more direct, they can often be "faster" than the bikes!

I haven't watched this yet. but I'm gonna ... what I can say is I have used 9th edition ptsd ... a pair of 'distraction bikes' ... people LOVE to move out of position to get those bikes
Once again, awesome vid! One question: How would you deal with custodes wardens and their 4+++ as orks? I got the problem that i call waaagh, he activates it and 1,6k points get brickwalled by 3 warden units
you have to bait it out
or cause damage in other phases. Bomb squigs, Grenades, Tank Shock. Tank bustas shooting.

So from experience of trying to play some bikes in solar spearhead with some dreads, it is just too much stuff that has to go round terrain (aside the one unit you can use the strat on) So I kind of feel as solar spearhead really encourages dreads and you want to be running like 5 or 6 dreads and probably 2 grav tanks, everything else should be infantry. I think you are probably right on Shield Host being the way to go, mainly because of the damage boost of either sustained 5s or the +1Ap (because of AOC etc.) as I have found their damage output to be pretty meh at times. For example I charged a two bike unit into some witches and because of some 1s on the hits and wounds, they fluffed against them and that left me stuck in combat to be charged next turn by some meganobz (it was a doubles games), where I proceeded to fail to roll any 4+ saves and they got wiped. With the sustained 5s those 1s to hit would have had me going from about 8 hits to about 12 hits I think from the 10 attacks.
I kind of feel they need to get their shooting out as well to justify their cost and that is often hard to combo with them needing to move round terrain to be able to charge people on objectives.
So ill be talking about solar in a video pretty soon. Basically i think its either full(ish) dreads, or 2 dreads

I believe the oval is the standard, but hell some tournaments might allow the round one!
Auric + 1 to wound affects the shooting, which can make the bolters pretty scary, but... that's it

They are basically space marines on bikes, 120 is a bit too expensive on anything but the bike detachment, I don't think this is an argument against the Great buffed statline of the custodes bikes
shining spears are busted good. Flat damage 3 all over the place for much cheaper
The shield captain also only having 6 attacks still makes no sense to me. I understand moving him up in points but all the captains are already overpriced for what they do. I never really like moving points down in custodes but the internal balance is still a little underwhelming
yeah man its dumb, someone at GW's mother was insulted by Custodes in 9th edition. so now all their toys besides wardens are blunted
@Happykrumpingwargaming007 hahaha this is my first edition and first army!! Still been a blast but just feels bad to run most of their other units. That being said as someone who only has 2 land raiders and no grav tanks solar spearhead double land raider I feel is so overlooked. Love moving through walls 10, then dumping my allarus out 😂
