Violent scenes like that were common in the low end and seedy Strip clubs back in the day. After a few minutes and drinks it's back to pole dancing, cheap booze and making it rain dollar bills again. Those were the days. Now you got these snooty high end "exotic dance clubs" where they rip you off and leave you broke by the end of the night. And you better double check your credit card statement the next day. The joints are filled with scamming hoes and bartenders. imo

Paulie suddenly trying to save Christopher is maybe my favourite character moment in the entire series. It’s an extremely rare example of Paulie actually trying to do something selfless for someone else, and adds so much depth to his character.

Paulie was hella flawed, like everybody in the show, but one must admit that he cared about the guys, especially Tony and Chris. He knew them since they were kids and sorta treated them like his real family (e.g. putting the painting of Tony on the wall), he only had them and his mom (aunt).

I'll always give Chris credit for this moment. When Junior did that thing, he was begging not to die. Here and now, knowing but not knowing with Tony, he stared him down and faced his death. Chris was wild, but he was one hell of a soldier. I think Tony just tried to force him to be something else instead of just leaning into his strengths.

Even in his final moments, he looks up at the man he has looked to all of his life, the last little bit of life he has draining out of him, and he sees Tony looking at him with pure hatred and disgust. Tony kills him without a second thought and tries to justify it in his own mind that he would kill his kid because of his drug addiction, but it was Tony that caused that drug addiction with the constant trauma he puts Chris through. This is definitely one of the intense and amazing scenes. This scene shows the conflict of personality.
T is the true villain this scenario since he directly lied to Chrissy and was very committed to end his life then and there.
Paulie being the wise guy defusing the situation (though poorly and not considering Chrissy emotions and pride at the moment) to save Chrissy life.
Chrissy in a drunken and emotional rage finding out his uncle/boss trying to ruin relationship with Adie, it was his pride on the line as we see Chrissy through the series getting cockie and arrogant caused by T's hypocrisy (even when T lets Sil, Paulie and Chrissy know he's getting therapist, he was disappointed from all the macho talk from Tony when he needed it and now he softened up and getting help). And Blundetto being the most intelligent of the group played the correct cards and successfully defused the situation and saved Christopher.
Each character and their personality being developed over time through the series was used perfectly, each character reacted as truthfully as possible.

Paulie and Tony B both stood in and spoke up for Chris. This is what it sounds like when thugs cry

Well, let's not get carried away:
1.) Christopher wasn't popped immediately due to pure nepotism, plain and simple.
2.) Christopher's gun was empty, and he still nearly got clipped.
3.) The crew knew Christopher's claims of the Boss sleeping with his wife had merit. If Tony S was sleeping with his own nephew's wife, then what do the rest of the crew mean to the Boss?
I think the situation was a lot more cynical than you made it sound.

    • @ureallysuckglobes

I remember watching this episode with my parents live when it aired in 2004. I was just finishing up college.
This episode was another standalone that was so exciting. I honestly thought Tony might kill Chris here. This incident led to the deterioration of Tony and Chris's relationship. Christopher always thought in his heart that Tony probably banged Adriana and was never able to let it go.
Plus, Christopher with his drug and alcohol problems eventually didn't want to hang out with the guys much which led to more separation. By the end of the show he was more into trying to get involved in the film business than being a gangster.

Paulie sometimes counseled Toney to give people another chance to some degree. He did it with Patsy, by saying ‘they always had an option’ to kill him, but didn’t push for his death. Though Paulie was always about Paulie, that crew was all Paulie had and I think at some level he still somewhat wanted Chris around. Chris was also one of his earners so he probably had a hidden motive to sort of give him a pass.
