In my opinion, as a Greek, the big classic ferries are the best! You are not feel the movement, you have many things to do on board (shopping, try the indoor and outdoor bars and restaurants, in some there are even hairdressers and little cinemas, or you may sunbath looking at the total blue)The trip is an experience and the tickets are cheaper. The duration of the trip is depended on the stops they have programmed to do , but the Aegean is very beautiful and it's like a cruise.
Thank you for your input, but big classic ferries, too general description, can you please give specific names of those ferries you recommend? Thank you,
@@steffietee740 no high speed or catamaran.
@@eleniasimop Ok, how longer does it take, travelling from Athens to Santorini or Fira, thank you.
Hi, this is what they called the slower ferry?
@@yoslainecastro7805 Yes in general. When you are looking for fairy tickets there's always mentioned the name of the ship and the company so you may Google it to see some photos etc. If you don't have your car on board you don't need to book tickets a lot of time before traveling. ( the number of cars is limited ) Anek lines and blue star ferries are two well known companies but they don't travel to every island.
Nice video Dave! Well thought out and presented.
Love your videos/website Dave, really helping me plan my future trip
Great to hear!

Thanks Dave 😊
Good job
Good👍💕😉excellent service! I was there
hi! great vid! we plan our trip from Rhodes to Athens and wanted to get some information from someone who knows about ferries! as we've never done this before! How to select seats? They provide different types of seats, but we have no idea which one is which one and what to choose? Also, where to eat? Is meal included or should we just go to the ferry's restaurant? It says we pass many Greek islands on our way from Rhodes to Athens. Will we be able to see them? Anything else you can share with us is highly appreciated!
Hey Dave!
Heading to Greece for the month of June.
We are bouncing around islands for 2 weeks before we go to Kalamata to chill out for another 2 weeks.
Do you have any suggestions for our island hopping?
My thoughts were Paros, Milos, Crete. Spending the majority of time in Crete. I’ve been to Naxos twice before but would consider going back because it was amazing.
Looking for Islands where we can do a LITTLE bit of partying but more so chilling out and enjoying the culture - “sigá-sigá”.
My thought was to finish our island hoping in Crete so we can ferry from Kissamos to Gytheio… Stay a night or two in Gytheio before going to Kalamata…. Any thoughts on the Kissamos > Gytheio ferry… is it cancelled often?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Great channel. Thanks so much.
Sounds like a fantastic itinerary. Not much I can add. I don't have any insight on Kissamos - Gytheoi ferry, sorry.
@@SantoriniDaveHQ great. Thanks, man.
Going to check out your channel and website a lot over the next few weeks.
Cheers
I am interested in living the experience of sleeping on a ferry and renting a place to sleep. What islands can I visit with this service?
Great vid. Quick question I'm going to Greece on Christmas Eve actually, and I'm unvaccinated American. Currently will it be worthwhile taking a ferry to Santorini during the winter for 2 days? And are they requiring antigen tests to board the fairies? Thank you
These are the current requirements for boarding a ferry: www.ferryhopper.com/en/faq/ferry-travel-post-coronavirus#ferry-boarding-requirements - though these could change and might be implemented differently depending on route and ferry.
Hi Dave. We are going to Santorini in a couple of weeks time. After staying a few days we plan to get the Sea-jet World Champion Seajet from Santorini to Naxos. Will I need to book in advance or can I pay at the ferry terminal on the day of travel. I'm just a little concerned if I don't book in advance we may not get on. Also is the World Champion sea-jet reasonably stable?
You'd probably be fine buying in Naxos Town the day of travel, but booking in advance is easy and takes away all the uncertainty. There's no good reason not to book in advance.
Thanks for the advice will do.

So you can bring 2 check-in size luggage + 2 carry-ons for no extra charge or anything, correct? Basically no regulation on how many luggage you can take on boat?
Basically, if you can get it onboard the ferry you can take it.
@@SantoriniDaveHQ Thanks!
Hi are there ferries to santorini Crete and Mykonos in late October early November
Late October, yes. Early November, maybe. Check Ferryhopper.com to check schedules and be sure.
Thank you Dave !!!
I forgot to ask if there is no ferry do you suggest we fly to Crete? In early November? How do we get there
@@Porto795 If there are no ferries the only option is to fly via Athens.
@@Porto795 it's IMPOSSIBLE to have no ferries for Crete.
How much is the ferry costs from Athens to Santorini and from Santorini to Mykonos?
Prices vary depending on ferry and class. Check Ferryhopper.com for prices.
How far In advance should we get to the port?
In Piraeus, 30 to 40 minutes is good as sometimes the ferry is leaving from a bit of a walk from where you expect it to depart from. Perhaps a bit more if you don't have an eticket and need to pick up a physical ticket. At ports on the Greek islands 10 to 15 minutes in advance is fine. And when it comes right down to it, if you're there 30 seconds before the ferry pulls away you'll get onboard. There's no time when the doors close and the ferry just sits there.
@@SantoriniDaveHQ Thanks so much!
How much it cost from Istanbul to Greece from this ferry ⛴️ 2 adult and 1 child...
There are no ferries between Istanbul and the Greek islands.
@@SantoriniDaveHQ we are planning to travel istanbul and then from there to Greece how can we do that
@@preetwadhwa8 The easiest way is to fly Istanbul to Athens. From there ferry or fly to the Greek islands (if that's your plan).
