    After 30 October all charter flights stop, Therefore only ferry boats are available.
    Some of the largest Islands are the best options as some hotels are open year-round.
    Crete, Evia and the Peloponnese are good options for September and October.
    Evia Lefkada and Poros (Not Paros!) islands are connected to the mainland by a bridge or causway, no need for airplane or ferry boat. only a car is needed.

    Thank you for all the great tips. I will be visiting Greece in September for 3 weeks. Mostly hanging out with my cousins who live in Corfu. They will take me to a few Ionian islands. I am in my sixties and appreciate all the tips about not going out by myself in Athens in the evening. I do have a cousin that will pick me up from the airport in Athens and I will stay with her before I head to Corfu. I can't wait to travel to Greece. Last visit was in 2005. Maybe I will run into you in Athens.

    Great tips Tiffany. It’s good to know ahead of time!
    For me part of coming to Greece is to slow down my pace. I give myself extra time every step of the way because I’ve had cancelled ferries and flights and learned the hard way! Not to mention dragging a suitcase up and down stairs in the blazing heat can be exhausting! If I am passing through an island on my way somewhere else, like when I fly in in the morning and out late, I sometimes book a cheap hotel for the day. I can shower, nap, get my bearings. It’s worth it. The airport Sofitel has even let me book half a day. It’s a nice way to rest before continuing on. :)

      The last time i was there it felt like the slower ferries with ample deck space and outdoor seating were being replaced with the dreadful flying dolphin variety where you are strapped to a seat with a just a tiny window. Part of the enjoyment of a Greek Island holiday for me was and is the lovely ferry ride with several picturesque stops. The longer you stay in Greece the slower the pace in your own life becomes, the sweet spot in my personal experience begins after the third or fourth week , unfortunately most tourists are not there long enough to feel that transition..

    • @agirlandherpassport
      @agirlandherpassport  2 роки тому +1

      I’m not a fan of the fast ferries either. I hope they don’t all get replaced. What I don’t like is they seem to be overselling them now which makes it hard to find a seat especially in COVID times.

    • @TheGlitterGlobe
      @TheGlitterGlobe 2 роки тому +2

      @@agirlandherpassport Arriving and leaving Greece I always try to get a slow ferry. It’s part of the experience for me, sitting outside and watching the sea and islands. Sometimes I see dolphins! When I just want to get to a nearby island I don’t mind a fast one. I do think they’re more difficult when dragging luggage-and suitcases seem to get buried in a heap and it’s a job to get them out!
      I agree with the other comment too, about staying longer to get the pace. The slower pace is part of the magic of Greece!

    Good advice about visiting the islands. I'm probably weird; but I love to take the ferries in Greece. I don't evidently get seasick. Its fun in a social way. I once had a fairly long vacation in Mykonos, and I had a great time there. But I was going to come back to Athens (which I love) a few days before my departure homeward (I think I had 4 more days in Greece). The ferry from Mykonos left later in the day, and it stopped at Syros/Ermopouli. The sun was setting over the city as the ferry came in there, and I just had to get off--even though it screwed up my ferry ticket. But I love the place. It may be my favorite place, and there aren't very many non-Greek tourists. Food was less expensive, more authentically Greek, and always lovely. I love the place in the Islands so far--I know that's crazy. I loved strolling around the town in the evening. Its places like Syros, and not the more touristed places, that I always love most in Greece. Keith

    Thank you Tiffany ,this is some really sound & practical advice. I have decided this year to skip the ferries and just travel by plane between the islands. Should not be an issue as I am going to Crete and Corfu through Athens. My concern now is more about the flights being cancelled or delayed as well luggage being lost. I have been reading that something like 75% of the flights from major Canadian carriers such as Air Canada and West Jet are either cancelled or delayed. Moreover, we keep hearing in the media, horror stories of luggage being lost. It's one thing when your luggage does not arrive when you get back home , but is rather disastrous when it happens on your way to your destination. Crossing my fingers 🤣

    • @agirlandherpassport
      @agirlandherpassport  2 роки тому

      I think it is when you transfer that seems to be the issue. Get some Airtags to put in your bag or a tracker of some kind so that if they do get lost, you can try to find them! Have a great trip and just remember you can buy everything here if you need.

    07:37 - You give the wrong reason with respect to the toillet paper problem, which is a major problem indeed.
    - There are no evacuation pipes under the streets in most islands, and for sure not water purification plants. And you are not able to empty the pipes in the Sea !
    - Those are expensive instalations to build and to operate, and with a salary of only €1,000 per month, who (and how) will pay for them !
    - The reason is not the size of the pipes, The reason is the ceptic tanks, which fills up fast with paper and has to be emptied more often.
    - The pipes are small indeed in many places, and that could be a good reason, however, most offten it is the ceptic tank !
    - It is also very expensive to empty the ceptic tanks, Not a very pleasing operation, and the tanks are very small and without a leaching field (leaching area).

      Thank you again for all your guidance! Keep those videos coming. Do you have one of Crete? One of the reasons we chose Crete (even though I prefer smaller islands, the ferry worked well with our plans since we decided to omit Turkey) and my friend was there and after doing some research of it, I found some good places to visit there (staying in Rethmynos, visiting Chania and the Knossos Palace). The only reason we omitted it was because in the back of my mind I thought it would be too much to enjoy some down time as we would be on ferries a lot and long bus rides between Bodrum and Cappadocia. Having said that I'm dissapointed as I wanted so much to stay there in a cave hotel, watch the hot air balloons go off, take an ATV sunset tour. I will go there one day for a longer time and do some more Greek island hopping. Sorry for the long winded post but I guess I'm excited and wanted to share this information for others who may one day consider this itinerary.🌺
