Sebastian- We just got back from Athens and we checked out some of your suggestions. Tylixto (wraps were fantastic), Klimatira (lamb w/potatoes and octopus w/rice) Atlanticos (calamari, fried sea bass) and enjoyed the food. All were well priced and tasty food. All had long queues but we were seated after a short wait - well worth it. Thanks so much from Toronto, Canada. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is exactly the kind of video i was looking for!!! Introducing places where locals go for good and authentic food. And your suggestion on what to order is the best part!! Thank you thank you
We had lunch at “To Steki tou Ilia” a few weeks ago , the weather was perfect for sitting in their outside area, food was delicious I had fava spread and the Biftekia with tzatziki and horiatiki all excellent! My family who is local suggested it and it did not disappoint! Thank you for all the suggestions I will make sure to try some of them on my next trip!
Sebastian, as always a very informative video but I have to admit that my wife and I have been to Athens twice in the past 2 years and both times stayed in omonia square, never once felt threatened either by day or night, yes it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing neibourhood of Athens but we loved it and will definitely return, just to add that my sister visited Athens and had her bag stolen in plaka so I guess it can happen anywhere, keep up the good work love seeing your videos
Sebastian, we are just leaving Athens tomorrow, having spent 5 days here. We have tried 3 of your recommendations of where to eat, and a couple of things to do. Must say, Thank you, we have really enjoyed our stay here. Watched your videos, and they helped us a lot. 😊
Tuna souvlaki at Atlantikos was great, recommend! I was however amazed by restaurant called Soul, packed with locals for both times we went there and food was delicious, not to mention for a bargain
Thank you Sebby. We were in Athens last week and we had a really good meal in both Atlantikos and Dioskouroi. We also went to Klimataria but it was too busy so we went to Avli instead which is also amazing. For Atlantikos, we ordered grilled hot peppers, grilled sardines, fried seafood platter, garlic green beans with potatoes, bread and beer. Sooo delicious and very cheap! 29 euros in total. Very cheap! For Dioskouroi, we ordered a small meat platter and wine. The “small” meat platter was actually huge so it fed the two of us plus the cats nearby. Now i wonder why cats in Athens are mostly chubby. 35 euros only. Quite cheap! For Avli, we ordered stuffed vines, greek salad, tzatziki, tomato balls, meat platter and a bottle of Fix beer. Around 35 euros. Good bang for the buck! Thank you for recommending.
I was in Athens for 6 days earlier this month, went to 3 of the 5 recommened in this video around city center. Klimataria was my favorite, actually went there for my first meal in the city after recommendation from the hotel staff. Really set the bar for the rest of the trip. I also recommend Psaras Tavern on the picturesque stairs path in Old Plaka, and Nolan for interesting Japanese/Greek fusion. And if you're going out to the islands, every meal I had in Naxos was outstanding and had something new to me.
Sebastian, your videos were much appreciated during our visit to Santorini, Meteora and Athens in January/February. Santorini weather was mostly sunny and nice and nowhere was crowded. Oia is stunning and the highlight of the trip. While there I got tonsilitis and a local doctor saw me, prescribing antibiotics and refused any payment.
Tried a couple pf recommendations and Prigkapas is really, really good ... Am typing this just finished my ajvar woth pita vread and buffalo delight. 💕
Hey, if you could share also your cafe-pastry recomnendations that would be amazing!! Especially i really wonder where to eat a great spanakopita. Thanks for the video btw!!
Thank you for your time and effort to educate future tourists. I am so glad I found your channel, it helps me do my homework to prepare for my trip in June. I won’t be able to go to the islands, but want my teenagers to have a beach experience by the sea in Athens. Would you be able to make a video about it or recommend one? I truly appreciate your work! 😊🎉
@@GreeceExplained it was pretty good! I ordered Pad Ki Mao with beef. And my wife ordered the Yellow curry dish with chicken. It was a little different than I am used to, and she took it to go so I could eat it later. I heated it up for breakfast the next day and it actually tasted better the next day!
Thanks for all the recommendations Seb! We tried most of them and they were all great EXCEPT for Klimataria which we were so exited about that we left for last and booked it for my birthday. Everything was wrong, awful rood waiter, bad food, cockroaches on the wall and completely ruined my night. This was our 12th day in Greece and I’ve leaved here before and speak the language. I’ve now checked Google reviews and surely there a ton of people with a bitter taste in their mouth after visiting this tourist trap. I think the place must have been good in the past but now it’s suffering from its own success. Please at least remove it from your least of places in the description Αν σε ενοχλεί 🙏🏻
Hi Sebastian! Just wanna say your vids have been really helpful to me for my Greece trip in Oct. Do you know if the restaurants mentioned in your vid (or just any restaurant in Athens in general) accept credit cards?
Please do not give false information!A taxi from plaka/acropolis to Prigipas in Exarcheia costs 4-5 euros, that is what the taximeter will show. Even if you book a taxi it is plus 3 euros so 7-8 euros in total!!15 euros is certainly not a price that anyone should pay for such a small distance!!To all the tourists in Athens just watch the taximetre! And ask from the beginnig what the extra cost is for booking a taxi !Anything over 3-4 euros is a hard no!
Last night we arrived in Athens (the ferry was late, it was 23h45) and we wanted to go from the port to Plaka. The first taxi we asked said 50€….. the second 25€. We took the second one as I had read that a taxi ride from the port to the acropolis is ~ 25€, but I’d never imagine getting a taxi to anywhere for less than 10€
There are some very good restaurant recommendations here in this video. Instead of nitpicking, why not just focus on food and give Sebestian the credit where it is due? Viewers are smart enough to know what to expect when taking a taxi in a foreign land.
Do Athenians eat at restaurants? Can they afford the cost? I think they eat at "tavernas" - if and when they feel "large" - or, even worse, they cook at home. Let's be realists! 🙂
dude, you have to stop scaring the viewers with the Omonia thing... it really isn't that bad at night... as with everything, you will only find trouble if you go looking for it...
@@GreeceExplained yeah I've watched that before but like I said, if you go looking for trouble, you will find it... I've gone through both Omonia and Exarhia plenty of times at night without any issues... with my kids when they were young too... no problems...
I tried to go there last night but some junkie stopped me and STRONGLY advised me not to go any further, turn around and leave. If you look like a tourist, I would advise people not to go to Omonia or surrounding areas at night. It's a sad and scary place.

To Kati Allo, very close to the Acropolis was lovely. Very old fashioned home style cooking. Really feels like home cooked food.
Very shallow decors..they all look like basemenr shady restaurants in NY
Informative for Greeks too ! I didn't know most of the places and i lived in Athens for 14 years 😅

We leaving Omonia as I write this. I agree with you. Things can happen almost anywhere.

Do you possibly have a video for vegetarian options?😅
Went to the first tavern and had slowly cooked pork knuckles with potatoes: Fantastic!

Nice restaurants around Victoria Square
How many of these are cash only?
None
Hello! My husband and I just arrived in Athens and would like to book this but I can't find it.. Could you please share a direct link? Thanks!
You can book a table at these restaurants by visiting their website or giving them a phone call :-)
Ahh we went on the food tour!! One of the best things we did in Athens! Thanks!

How could you skip Rosalia in Exarchia is beyond any comprehension!😮
I ate the sardines in Atlantikos and was really dissapointed

No, Sebi is right, white girl commenting, that neighbour is shady!!!!
Even for two girls just passing by...accept the facts
You're pushing locals away and will convert those restaurants in tourist traps too by doing this sort of videos
Great video
