I’ve discovered a universal truth: Rolex is dooshy. Modern Rolex, that is. That’s why a hipster may favor a 5-digit. And a Tudor looks like a 5-digit. Therefore it’s not dooshy. And I own Rolex x 2, as well as a vintage Tudor. Edit: there’s no question a Rolex is better.
Rolex will always be better than Tudor. No one should be arguing this. What Rolex is now doing is allowing Tudor to make a stake in the stainless watches while Rolex focuses more on precious metals. This year’s Rolex releases clearly show this. Only one model was released that was under 30k (the SS GMT) Also, why would Rolex allow Tudor to release a budget Sub if they weren’t trending into the precious metal space.

But they have become so fancy, that my friends keep their Rolexes in the safe. It's too special, to wear it. Now, compare that to a Pelagos. So the watches have literally taken different paths. The days of using Rolex cases, with ETA movements is long gone. So comments like this need to stop. They're just made by old men who can't see what's happening.

I wish to update this as, "those that can, wear a Tudor, those that can't, are awaiting their watch from the AD and are working out how much money they'll make, when they sell it, and I'll wear my homage watch until my beloved Rolex comes, but then I'll sell it because i can make a profit, but I can always keep wearing my homage, and bore everyone senseless by talking about the Rolex I owned, but I infer that I still own it".
I love both, own from both and i think for the money either beat the competition. Wilsdorf foundation make exceptional pieces that you can enjoy all your life and pass on.
Welcome Back, Marc. I Just took delivery of (last week) of a YM40 Rhodium dial from my AD. He then asked me what Tudor I wanted next, looking a Pelagos, just not sure which one. I own 3 Tudors now, they are great watches, and I believe they could charge more. I do need to let the wallet recover some, though before I dive in (hahahahaha) to a Pelagos.

Own both as well. You are not wrong. But I am completely satisfied with my meta certified burgundy BB movement. Do wish bezel was ceramic. I also feel more comfortable in the city with Tudor over Rolex. And if I am mugged for a watch, the monetary loss of the Tudor will hurt much less

I admit that I like Rolex and Tudor. I have three Tudors, date day 36 mm , just serviced at Rolex . Tudor Submariner 36 mm and my Tudor Hydronaut I , blue Dial with the Rolex triple locking crown 200 meter water resistant automatic ETA movement, all this for $1866 USD. The essence of Tudor is Rolex quality at a more affordable price.
Well, for me, Tudor has to be better than Rolex! Why you ask? After buying three luxury watches and some jewelry for my wife, my AD still does not believe that I am worthy of Rolex! Since I refuse to pay over retail on the gray market, I am not being given the privilege of comparing!
Tudor is for losers. It’s the cayman/boxer against a 911 turbo. If you cannot afford the Rolex you want, just buy an Omega (not at retail). Or save your money for the Rolex. A Tudor will never make you happy and it will never retain value. Your friends will mock you, your girlfriend will not respect you.

I respect your views but for one. I HATE ceramic bezels and that is why I will never buy the 2018 seamasters. I love my Tudor reverse panda and miss y bb41 red bezel Tudor. Aging and patina for me make a watch much more interesting. My 1994 Bond seamaster was stunning with all of it's beautiful patina.😊

Your reason #2 is correct but many people could care less about ultra finishing which even Rolex is not the best at. Your reason #3 is the same as your reason #1. Snobs are snobs, and yes Tudor has their snobs too. Your reason #4 is weird. Tudor is almost a Rolex, but not quite. Yes, you are right. And neither is Omega, Blancpain, Grand Seiko, or JLC. Your reason #5 is correct. Rolex has more classic designs. But I believe that Tudor gave up on many designs and didn't continue with some great classic watches. Tudor went 20 years (1990-2010) in some sort of a funk. Not sure what happened. Poor leadership and lack of vision maybe? Tudor could easily go back in their archives to bring back some awesome classic watches (Prince date, Date Day, Big Block Chronograph, etc.) in updated fashion. I wish Tudor would do that. And your last Ceramic comment? OK, yes Tudor only has 6 ceramic bezel watches in their line-up (All Pelagos). Obviously Rolex is holding Tudor back on this front. No other reason for it. The Crown is worried about the Shield taking more of a share which goes back to your reason #5 of classic designs. Rolex is holding Tudor way back! Attack over!
I think the rivets comments are surreal - they are barely visible - and maybe even a nice subtle touch anyway - of all the issues that one I think is not one of them!
@GlobalShutterNY To me it makes the watch look antiquated. The clean lines of the oyster bracelet is what I like. Rolex/Tudor only puts rivets on Tudor to "ugly it up" so it doesn't compete as directly with Rolex. It's a marketing thing to keep Rolex as the superior choice.

I'm not a fan of Tudor's design language. Would rather wear Omega or Breitling.
Tudor is basically an introduction brand for Rolex kingdom.
Your reason no.1 is actually the only reason. Everything else is just consequential.
And the one reason Tudor is better: you can go into a store, pick out a watch, tap your card, and walk out with a watch.

Tudor has Ceramic Watches. The Pelagos 42mm and the Pelagos FXD models have Ceramic bezels .

The rivets on the bracelet is what ruins it for me. The Tudor of the 90s when it was just a Rolex copycat was better.
