Personally what I like most about this model is its versatility. You can switch up the looks of the watch by the 3 different bezel combo (additional ghosting the pepsi and coke bezels if you are as mad as me). Further, you can also change the looks and wearing experience by having the oyster and jubilee bracelet options. You practically will end up having 10 different options and look in a single watch and yet still remain true to its originality. Which watch can do that with the modern models?
I had one of these 1997 model. Same flip lock clasp I bought it brand new for £1850 unfortunately back in 2010 had to sell due to work and mortgage payments
Wow - don't we all wish we could buy one for that amount today! Unfortunate that you had to part ways with it, but hopefully you got back more for it than you paid in '97! 😃
The new Tudor BB58 GMT may be my pick for a GMT watch currently on the new market - well proportioned, vintage vibe and a true tool. Tudor are getting the closest with their current range to the vintage watches we hanker after. If we get one in our hands I'll be sure to post on it. Stay tuned on our channel for a Rolex 16710 and Tudor BB GMT (41mm) against each other soon! 😀 Thanks for the comment! 🙏
My 16713 Root beer of course. The new root beer is too safe in its color saturation. The root beer is supposed to be a bit out there not the safe choice.
I used to own this particular model. It by modern standards is absolutely awful. Clunky design & very cheap feeling. I recall the top pip not even remotely lining up & the clasp keeper working loose after a year of ownership. Don’t get me started about the stamped clasp design. So tacky. Just an opinion from one previous owner.
The bezel misalignment is a simple fix by realigning the insert with the bezel. The whole charm of this neo-vintage GMT model is all the negative points you mentioned especially to a true watch collectors.
One of the best rolex ever released. Great dimensions. I prefer the slimmer clasp on this generation to the heftier modern ones. Neve had an issue with mine. Lovely aluminium bezel which I much prefer over the shiny ceramic. This is overall way more elegant than the modern models
i have the current 126710blro, but i recently saw a 1999 "coke" 16710 very similar to the one in the video, and couldn't pass it up. you are correct about it feeling less robust than the newer models, but there is something charming about it that draws you in. the one in th video is thirty years old and still is ticking, must be made well enough!
Jack, you have a superb narration voice...

A great point and strength of the 16710 - thanks for the comment! 🙏
