Still fresh and so brilliant after 40 years, Iggy Pop cover, the difficult passage from the so freaky style of Ziggy Stardust to the 80s commercialization. Only Bowie could do that, missin so much this charismatic genius
The bass and guitar on this song follow each other and the beat so well, anytime I hear them it’s so distinct and satisfying... it’s hard to think of another song with quite this kind of sound...
That was the work of Carmine Rojas, who was with Bowie's band at the time, and Chic's Tony Thompson. Chic's Nile Rodgers produced this album and played rhythm guitar on it. You will also find his (and Thompson's) imprints all over Madonna's "Like a Virgin" album.
The hard and motoric quality of the bass and drums (they're fairly high up in the mix and never budge for the vocals) sort of suggests the feel of inevitability or captivity around the lovers in the song: they are not really in control of what's happening to them but trapped by powerful forces (and this is also suggested by the images in the video). Dark passion...
Brilliant song I love Bowies voice and nile Rodgers guitar and stevie Ray Vaughans guitar solo, the drums and bass guitar too and the keyboards and synthesisers , excellent song from bowie off the let's dance album from 1983
Goose bumps all over the body! Who else really digs the guitar at 4:33? So smooth, but/and so completely inimitable. The song that made me like Bowie...
My favourite Bowie album. Ballsy and brilliant, one superb track after another. This was drum and bass before drum and bass. Right at the top of his game here, off the drugs and looking great. Gone too soon
David Bowie has such a unique sound. What was most amazing was his ability to proficiently sing a blues song, "It's Gonna Be Me", blew my socks off! He wrote a lot of his own music, wrote the songs in Jim Henson's 'Labrinyth'' movie, and sings with that distinct tone. Bowie sure was a talented dude.
I have this great LP. 1983 This is for my little china girl Alana I love you!!! Who else really digs the guitar at 4:33? For all times...just play loud...great years however....
I miss Tony Thompson's drum grooves man. This song is nothing without that sweet groove of his. Tony was really hot in the early 80's, (some would even say they liked it that way 😜).

I think he did much the same kind of skips, cracks and soulful slides with his voice in Young Americans, almost a decade earlier. I agree this is an amazing recording, even if at first sight it could sound straightforward and "simple".
Stevie Ray Vaughn on guitar
yeah :)
And Nile Rodgers, My God 3 legends in one song
@@AndreaPirlo888you mean four Andrea, because you have to count Omar Hakim on the drums then David 😉

Little China girl
Little China girl
I could escape this feeling with my China girl
I feel a wreck without my little China girl
I hear her heart beating loud as thunder
Saw the stars crashing
I'm a mess without my little China girl
Wake up in the morning, where's my little China girl
I hear her heart's beating loud as thunder
I saw the stars crashing down
I feel tragic like I'm Marlon Brando
When I look at my China girl
I could pretend nothing really meant too much
When I look at my China girl
I stumble into town
Just like a sacred cow
Visions of swastikas in my head
Plans for everyone
It's in the white of my eyes
My little China girl
You shouldn't mess with me
I'll ruin everything you are
You know it
I'll give you television
I'll give you eyes of blue
I'll give you a man who wants to rule the world
And when I get excited
My little China girl says,
"Oh baby just you shut your mouth."
She says, "Sh."
She says, "Sh."
She says
She says
And when I get excited
My little China girl says,
"Oh baby just you shut your mouth."
And when I get excited
My little China girl says,

2:16 how does he make his voice crack in the best possible way like that?
