Saw him in '76 live. Sounded great. It seemed he cut the show short and it had a long intermission featuring avant garde film Un Chien Andalou, and the stadium was half full at best.
My mom saw all the greats in the 60’s including the Beatles Doors and Stones. Springsteen pre born to run etc.... To this day she says Bowie at the Boston garden in the early 70’ was the best show she ever saw. He landed on the stage in a fog shrouded flying egg to open the show. I’m thinking some psychedelics were involved.
When this song came out it was a hot summer. The Girl that I wanted was not interested. I had a Poster of David Bowie on the wall in my room and my Father forced me in the holiday season to work in his fucking Company. But this song gave me the power to stay alive in June/July 1983. Thank You David Bowie for this Song.
Nile Rogers produced the album and put those notes in there. The original 1977 version by Iggy Pop (which was produced by David Bowie) doesn't have them.
@@cheeseandonions9558 Not really. David Bowie wrote the song and had Iggy Pop record. "China Girl" is a song that Bowie wrote and then gave to Iggy. At 1:15 there is a fascinating moment that you would never see in modern culture. He's making a playful gesture of teasing her about her slanted eyes. But then he gives her the most loving smile after that. I think it's a beautiful thing, and not sure younger people would "get" the meaning of it.
My understanding is they did date for a while, and their chemistry really shows in that section. And btw I'm both a younger person, and mixed Asian and white, so I'm in a unique position to appreciate this video and its concept. :)
The Beach scene: Hard to imagine now that back in 83 this was considered pushing the boundaries of what is and what is not TV-friendly. Still one of my fave videos of all time.
The original beach scene was much hotter - it also featured shots of their butts and hints of their private parts and a full view of her breasts. That version was regularly aired in my country in 1983, so I still remember it. This is the toned down version - the edit was a result of public criticism in some countries, especially the USA, where Bowie lived at the time.
The bass line in this song is fantastic.
Thinking the same - Bowie was without a doubt brilliant but this song is carried to a new level by the bass and drums.
Agree - what made this an incredible hit was the impeccable engineering and production with the instrumentation but *especially* the bass and percussion.

One of Bowie's best...at the End of his great creative life❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lyrics, melody blend into heaven.
It just makes me so sad that I’m never gonna see him live in concert, it’s just a dream that will never come true...
Just a couple decades from now, you'll be able to see him give a holographic concert.
same
Saw him in '76 live.
I'm so grateful that I DID get to see him just once.
Miss you David Bowie. With all the garbage music we have today we need you!
Totally Agree .... I wrote 'No Doubt Man" by Space Boy ..... there's nothing like our David .... thanks to all the nice people.
Yeah, especially garbage artist who can't come up with their own stuff and had to copy other classic musicians like David Bowie
An incredible artist it gone from the planet. He was amazing.
I was born in the wrong generation 😢
We still have some good ones
.
The one, the only, the irreplaceable, Mr David Bowie.
THIS SONG MAKES ME SO HAPPY,RIP DAVID❤
When this song came out it was a hot summer. The Girl that I wanted was not interested. I had a Poster of David Bowie on the wall in my room and my Father forced me in the holiday season to work in his fucking Company. But this song gave me the power to stay alive in June/July 1983. Thank You David Bowie for this Song.
Ah, that smile at 1:18 ...!!!! so much love... SO, David Bowie...so much subtleness and sincerity in that smile and look
That smile absolutely melts me!
2:31 That scene. That kiss!
Yea David liked guys asses too the pervert
@@steffanhoffmann8937 so?
I love David Bowie, 2-10-24! I have his album, Cd,'s RIP We miss you patty 1957😂😅😊
I really like the Intro... Asian musical notes that introduces you to whole song! Long life for David Bowie
Nile Rogers produced the album and put those notes in there. The original 1977 version by Iggy Pop (which was produced by David Bowie) doesn't have them.
did you know it's a cover of Iggy Pop's song?
@@cheeseandonions9558 Not really. David Bowie wrote the song and had Iggy Pop record. "China Girl" is a song that Bowie wrote and then gave to Iggy. Since he and Iggy were financially broke after their Berlin period Bowie made a pop album that was sure to be a hit and included his song that Iggy recorded so they could share the royalties of "Let's Dance".
BOWIE!!!!!!! My hero!😍❤
This is my favorite song by David Bowie. The beat and melody is what makes it so appealing imo. The guitars are phenomenal.❤❤❤❤😊. Sorely missed 😢
It's by Iggy Pop, actually.
Courtesy of Stevie Ray Vaughan!
The bass line in this song is fantastic
Bowie makes me smile, he makes he laugh, he makes me tap my foot, and he makes me cry. No exaggeration. I'm smiling, I'm rocking out, and yes I'm crying. Miss you, David.

At 1:15 there is a fascinating moment that you would never see in modern culture. He's making a playful gesture of teasing her about her slanted eyes. But then he gives her the most loving smile after that. I think it's a beautiful thing, and not sure younger people would "get" the meaning of it.
Listen boomer, it's straight up racist
My understanding is they did date for a while, and their chemistry really shows in that section.
And btw I'm both a younger person, and mixed Asian and white, so I'm in a unique position to appreciate this video and its concept. :)
Most younger people don´t even get how to breath without instructions, so I am not surprised.
one of the best things about 50 years old,is the fact that i lived my teenage years in the 80's that is priceless and i am grateful !!!
The best concert ever, Glass Spider. Also glad I have an uncut VHS version of this song.
1:12 Bowie and his expressions 😁💕 we miss you so much...
He was so gorgeous and unique looking!
He is the Starman !
Rock on
Man🙏💓
@@9_nein_9 He is "The Man that Fell to Earth"
Yes!
He's the Thin White Duke
The Beach scene: Hard to imagine now that back in 83 this was considered pushing the boundaries of what is and what is not TV-friendly. Still one of my fave videos of all time.
It's not TV.
Masterpiece. Brilliant voice. Just stunning.
This is not just a song, its bunch of songs put in one masterpiece.

Love this song so much. One of my favorite transitions from the guitar line to his vocals at 2:00. So good
I love this song too and the video ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💋💋💋
You are
There are no dislikes ever in David Bowie's comment sections because he still knows how to unite us all
3:27 That Stevie Ray Vaughan solo though. David Bowie + SRV is too much talent to be in one place. Madness!
Just letting you know that is SRV on Stevie Wonder's Superstition
