Yeah I am swapping out my skid with a nice rust free one from my doner WJ. And I am considering a tank tuck. Seems like a nice place to put a second battery, air compressor etc though so I am still contemplating.
I have varilocks from the factory and so far with the wheeling I do with it I am happy. I have kicked around the idea of dana 60's but I just don't wheel this one that hard. I pretty much only use it for family camping trips, cruising the woods. etc.
Looking good James! What size tires are you planning on running? Gears? Also are you going to do transfer case swap? I’m guessing yours is the same as mine with the 247...
Awesome video! I have a 2003 WJ 2WD (was a gift, an awesome one at that!) and I am curious to know, did the WJ's all come with a D44 axle? I know it says D44a, so I will have to find out what the differences are. But my curiosity is certainly piqued! :)
I believe many of the 4.0L Wj's have dana 30 fronts and dana 35 rears. I think most of the V8 4.7L came with the Dana 30 front and a unique to the WJ aluminium housing Dana 44 A (A for aluminum). The draw back is the axle tube can work its way loose as it is just pressed into the housing. The truss helps hold it together and gives a mount for the suspension upper links.
@@SpiralDesignWorks Wow, OK thank you for that interesting information! Yeah, mine is a 4.0, which I'm fine with, since I've wanted one since forever ago lol, but I kinda like the idea of the V8 and that 5/45RFE Trans, but I know the 6 is a bulletproof engine and I get bad enough fuel economy as it is anyways (16mpg avg) so I'm fine with that, just hoping that 42re holds up! So far so good though :)
@@SpiralDesignWorks Also forgot to mention before, I am STILL to this day amazed at the low-end grunt that 4.0 does have! I know it doesn't pull like that V8 most likely, but it does pull pretty well! :)
Thanks for the video! Great workmanship. I’d like to see some fender trimming, front and rear on your WJ.
Yes I will be trimming next week so should have a video up in a few weeks. Thanks for watching.
Nice work, James. It's coming along great!
Thank you
nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks good! Are you planning a tank tuck? It really cleans up the drooping rear end.

I would change my wj rear axle because I can’t find good locker for it.

Curious about the controll bracket reinforcement you welded in. Where did you get those? Not part of the truss kit.
The truss kit from Clayton has the two top center control arm brackets and slots to locate them.

Thank you. Running 35 BFGs. Probably going to regear to 4.56. Yes picked up a 231 I'm going to swap in. Not having 2wd is ridiculous.
Spiral Design Works yeah 2wd would be nice. My build sheet is pretty close to yours. Just gotta get some more funds together.

Everyone loved the 4.0 in the Wranglers. I think the heavy WJ in comparison was a bit much for it.
@@SpiralDesignWorks I do agree there, for sure!
Nice , question thar 44a is the one with open carrier and is a 04 wj correct , thanks and be safe
This is a 2001 limited with the varilock differentials.
