That's a good tip, I had a car that seemed like the tyre NSF was a town and country. So I changed the bearing which seemed fine and it improved but i am not convinced it's fixed. I am going to Jack it up and have another look underneath. So thanks for tips like this.
Alan i had a rumbling noise i swore it was coming from o/s cv joint, i just changed the whole shaft, turned out that the n/s front wheel was loose, i felt like a real twat, hope the wife never finds out, enjoyed the video.
Cheers for this, Al. Got a SKF bearing and new driveshaft coming this week for my MK3 2.2ST. Didn't even consider it to be this part though if I'm honest. I'm going to change them both though, first as last, but am definitely going to check for this. 👍
Absolutely Twatted 😂 The scary thing is I now realise it’s been 17years since I collected a brand new Mondeo Zetec Tdci as a company car, Sony 6 disc head unit too!
Thanks for this Alan. Think this is my issue on my ST220 but on the passenger side! Checked front wheel for bearing wobble and it’s solid. Only just passed it’s MOT last week but they won’t have picked up on a driveshaft bearing 🤦🏻♂️
My brother in law still runs a Mk3 2 litre petrol Titanium. Its still a very nice car. It would still be a nice car if they made it today. Amazingly its ULEZ compliant as well. Dunno how that works to be honest.
Very useful I have a 2005 Mk3 78,000 miles. I had a nasty noise that turned out to be a loose calliper! fell onto the wheel and jammed it. Top bolt had vanished bottom one loose. Oh dear better get some lock nut stuff. Lucky no nasty accident/damage.
Hey Alan, every time i watch your videos i see Jasper Carrot lol...ya the spitting image. Keep up the content your very entertaining....... oh n by the way, when you n Monica getting wed ? 😂😂
Hi Alan thanks for sharing my father has a toyota avensis with this problem and we checked the bearing too and its fine I bet its the same as what you did cheers
Hi Alan. Thanks for still keeping us updated with the Mk3s as and when they need attention. Useful information. What mileage is on that Mk3? I'd be interested to know roughly when to expect that noisy bearing on mine (currently 95k). The only problem I ever had with my two Mk3s were the coil springs which have broken on both cars over the years! Cheers. Vivian. (Edit: sorry, I just seen you told us 130k!).
@@ianrimmer1968 Cheers Ian - glad it's still going well. I reckon the Mk3s were really good, Trying to look after mine well enough to get to a "classic" car! Alan is right when he says look after the engine with good oil at the proper intervals. Nice to talk Mondeos on here. Vivian
Had one that turned out to be the differential bearing in gearbox. Thought it was wheel bearing on the road test then seen it lost all the gearbox oil out the seal that had been knocked out by the collapsed bearing.
same thing on my transit connect at mo, £140 for the bearing alone from main dealers, full recon shaft with cv joints and new intermediate bearing ebay £57 next day delivery !!!
Hey up Alan , I've just removed my shaft and ordered the after market bearing for £20 ! So please tell me how you remove the bearing and little cup ! I assume it's a case of just banging them off! Regards Graham
Loved my mondeo mark 3 ghia x automatic very comfortable to drive long journeys and boot swallowed a lot of things. Unfortunately I had to retire it after 21 years services the other month.and as timing belt needed to be replaced desperately. Front suspension needed replacement as when breaking above 60mph steering wheel wobbled. So uneconomical to repair plus the ulez and extended congestion charge sealed the car fate. I like my new car (which is still a ford) but its no mondeo in terms of comfort
when you hear the nois and it dosent change when you turn the wheel the ask a friend to but hand on that hbearing holder and when you spin the fill hie /she will tell you is it it or not ;)
Was there any different in noise level when pulling left or right, or was it the same noise regardless for you? I have this issue and i swear it's the wheel bearing as well. While driving if i pull right, the sound becomes lower, and the sound is higher when pulling left. It's this somewhat deep and constant growling noise and the noise get's higher depending on how fast i drive. Spinning the left wheel also makes a growling noise, while the right one is like normal. Does left drivechaft have a driveshaft support bearing?
Would you ask Steve if he could see his way clear to replacing some of the mk5 Mondeo's with 3.2 di d shoguns. i have just got one and could do with a heads up with what to look out for, (Just askin lol)
Mk3 what a beast😍 got it 11yrs and counting
nice one sead

My 2205 estate had to have front springs at year 5 and year 6. Been OK since a the originals must have been made out of spaghetti.
cheers vivian, the coil springs are forever breaking on the mk3 mondeos
My mk3 2.0 petrol has done 172,000 and still on its original driveshaft centre bearing. It’s had plenty of new coil springs tho 😔

Great advice 👍👍
Well it's great that you PINPOINTED the fault, but I thought you'd have shown us how to remove it crazy Al 🤔🤔🤔🤔
😑never had my camera on the day i replaced it lol
Hello Alan.
Was it a kind of howling/grinding noise??? I have an howling/grinding noise sometimes in my mk5 mondeo.
Its an AWD model… any help?
Not seen a Mk3 vid for a while! (:
Hey up Alan , I've just removed my shaft and ordered the after market bearing for £20 ! So please tell me how you remove the bearing and little cup ! I assume it's a case of just banging them off!

it would be easier to cut the old bearing off with an angle grinder and press the new one back on
I've got the same symptoms. What part number would I be looking for to replace?
Alan if the driveshaft is stuck in the hub and it takes a lot of hammering to get out, do you fit a new driveshaft?

@Alan I got a new bearing for it. But can you show a video on how to get the bearing off

Всё в лучших традициях Форда - спустило колесо , покупаешь новое вместе с двигателем в комплекте.
Are you going to finish the DMF vid??
no, i have videos of replacing a flywheel etc which i left links to in that video
Hi Alan any ideas what could be causing battery drain on my ford 1.8tdci 2007 cheers buddy and great video 👍👍
