Well done Alan, another mondy back on the road, had the fun of the back pipe's last year, went a bit wild and painted the whole underneath when the subframe came out 🤦♂️🤣
I own a MK3, it has been with me for 10 years. This channel has helped me to keep it in very good working order. Now I am ready for replacing those brake lines if ever need.
Very interesting to MK3 owner like me. My MOT man said last year get some spray on the brake pipes or they will go. Timely advice. I have trouble opening the nipples. Surprised someone willing to spend so much money repairing a 20 year old car. I did a front spring using two mickey mouse compressors. Fools rush in etc. Love your kit.
Wow you were lucky getting them bolts out of the fuel filler brackets 😂😂😂 just done the same job on rear of my mk1 focus and feel your love for this job. Bloody pipe goes up and over the tank into a union that aint easy to access. Great work as always mate and totally agree with taking the subframe off to make life easier 👍
Hi Alan, I'm sure you know this, it's more for those reading comments. I have found tightening stiff, hard bolts, after some wd40 spray. Once they 'crack' they are easier to undo. I've also used external spring compressors, they just don't feel safe, I liked your system, it looks a lot safer Great video, clear, concise and really well explained. Great work. Thanks from Oz
Brilliant video Alan, my 2004 connect always fails on a pipe and its especially bad doing the job with axel stands 😏😏 is bloody annoying brake pipe should be stainless steel from the factory, thanks again Alan 👍👍
Alan, have you seen the “Just Rolled In channel” they don’t seem to have any MOT test in the States and some of the rust ridden cars they have on there are unreal.
I've still got my 2004 Mk 3 Mondeo first thing I did when I got it home new I covered it all underneath with Waxoyl. Done every two years and it still looks like new underneath. Great car.
Hi brilliant video keep the mk3 alive plz I've just had my mk3 Mondeo 1.8lx 56reg fail it's mot the front subframe is rotten and the 2 steel fuel pipes that run under car next to the brake pipes you are talking about are rotten i can't believe the prices i have been quoted to fix these things it is basically an insurance write off at this point i did decide to try and save it from the scrape yard but to supply and fit the new front subframe is very expensive and it being a FORD next year it will be the REAR that geos.....lol i still love it though!
I have a leak o the exact same pipe and I am not looking forward to do the job so I am postponing until it gets warmer outside as I have no garage. Veru useful video, most likely subframe bushes and dampers will also be replaced so a lot of work ahead for me
I've just done my Freelander2 front spring which are the same as Mondeos, everyone bolt snapped which cost me an furrher 4 and half hours getting those out,and I had to compress the spring with my trusted handraulic spring compressor . Yes those top mounts are supposed to have a mark on it to line it up with with the bracket on the side of the strut. Took me a week to do it and have to do the other side now
Alan would it not be better to check for leaks before the subframe goes back in especially the hard to reach one at the back up top, just saying from North of Newcastle 👍
I can confirm that brake pipe do corrode. I changet it on my estate. I did mine with the parts still fitted. I belive it is a tad easier on a estate. And with my method of refilling the brake fluid, I get much better pedal than my mate does that do run a repair shop. His brakes is always soggy. I fit a bleed kit with one way valve to the caliper and start the engine. When starting the engine you get support from the vaccum and you feel instant if the pedal is soggy. I have never got a good result with those pressure bleed kits on my cars. And I also have found several times that recondition calipers suck as they then to leak around the bleed nipple. One time I got two calipers in row that I was unable to build pressure. Annoyied the hell out of me so I bought a brand new Ford one and I got intstant pressure. These days I drive a late 03 Volvo V40 after my Mk3 failed the MOT with both rust and exhaust gasses and a few more bits. I do miss the luggage space in the Mk3. My V40 has a tad too small one for my use really.
Thanks for sharing mate ; but It`s when you get the patient ready & then realise that some chump as completely butchered the torx insert for you years ago. I had a similar problem with this type of bolt on the rear caliper carrier on a pug estate & shelled out for an extractor set from Sealey ; which actually worked 🙄
Seems all I do is replace brake lines here in southern Ontario Canada. Get the mastercool 72475 hydraulic flaring tool and use the fmsi Cupro nickle brake line. It will change your experience for the better As for removing old lines, cut with dykes beside the nut and drill out the line from the nut for re-use. Remove the nut from the fitting with 6 point socket. Nice flaring tool you use as well.
What is it with Fords and rotten brake pipes above the subframe (or in MK1 Focus circles above the tank), pain of a job but well worth it in the long-run. Another great video alan :)
Just had to be towed home due to one of the brake pipes just in front of the O/s rear wheel next to fuel tank the line blew out. Itthe whole line between rear and front was good but had rotted out in one of the white plastic hangers clips but in true fashion the one above the blown one snapped the car is sat in the garden with knackered rear brakes as I've got no lift and just procrastinating fixing the thing
Hi Alan , did you forget to refit the neoprene anticreak sleeve on the bottom of the spring or on purpose ? Also, like your bending pliers! and do you realise you fitted SAE fittings and flares instead of DIN fittings and flares? Not many would have tackled those jobs, so well done and thanks for the guide. Got an '02 mk3 estate myself trying to keep it alive for a bit longer....
hi, its that long ago I can't remember but usually I would refit the rubber to the lower coil spring but many times it is perished badly or just not there so I would just leave it out and these cars are just old rentals so no need to be too particular. the brake fittings are all I have and do the job...it works for me, have a smiley day😊nice car you have..collectors piece now..
Alan can I have youre advice, I have a 14 plate Mondeo 2.0 litre diesel I have been using the recommended 5/30 fully synth, but someone recommend using a 0/30. The 5/30 is no good apparently for the engine I find it hard to believe
@@alan4x cheers mate ford also confirmed what you have just said maybe the Mk5 runs on 0/30 and they are getting it mixed up, thank you for the videos I've learned alot about my Mondeo and how to work in it
Alan, Is there a reason Ford recommends Castrol Magnatac A5 for the Duratorq 2.0 in my C-Max and not a low SAPS oil for the DPF. Many thanks, love your vids!
Nice one Alan yeah the mk3 mondeos are getting on abit now every mondeo i had the rear pipes have been done thank god, I do find the rear subframes do rot aswell 👍
Hi Alan, Mondeo mk5 2.0L, I have an issue with one of my taxis where it revs keep fluctuating under 1000 revs and then it cuts out. Starts back up no problem with the stop start. Been to a garage over 10 times and they can’t seem to get to the bottom of it. Wondering if you have ever had this problem with any of the cars in the fleet. It’s starting to do my head in

Hi Alan, is their a way I could possibly contact you please? Really need help with my Ford Focus ST MK3.5 it has the exact same 2.0L Diesel engine as most of the Mondeo’s you’ve posted from what I can see? Hope to hear back ASAP please! 🙏🏻

A decent 4 part kit (eg LUK) can be had for £390-£430, there is a fair bit of labour, probably an afternoon's worth so that low quote is not far off being reasonable.

Too be fair it's a 20 year old car in the UKs climate its done well considering its never seen any sort of wax oil treatment that I can see.

Hi Allan, I own a MK3 duratec auto, how often do the transmissions fail on these cars and is there anything I can do to prolong its life?
surprisingly they last pretty well, not much you can really do apart from not abuse the gearbox and replace the transmittion oil once in a while
Brilliant job sir well done
Hi Alan, don't you change springs in pairs, like shock absorbers?
you can do but not necessary unless the other spring is very old and week causing the car to sit lopsided
To right about them brake pipes al had a right mare of a job when mine blew lol
yeah, hard to tell sometimes with brake pipes but better safe than sorry
Hi Alan what can I use to sort my seat belt out as it dont retract back like it should cheers mate
spray the belt with silicone spray, that normally sorts a lazy retracting seat belt out

It’s starting to do my head in
Mass air flow sensor?, dirty throttle body?, if the battery has been disconnected / changed there might be an idle-relearn procedure for the ECU?
i would start by reading the ecu codes if any, could even be a broken high pressure fuel pump spring
Nice work 👏
Who else's bottom clenched just slightly when he fully compressed the spring ?
lmao

lol, cheers william, she is in office, yes i do get pipe unions that dont release, got lucky with this one
Why they don't they fit them with copper in the first place has always surprised me i suppose it's just cheaper
yes its just cheapness
MOT tester is a bit keen😁... Had to literally bend it in double twice to crack the pipe. A new pipe can split after bending like that

The rear undercarriage of the Mondeo sort of looks like a combination of the North American Taurus and Focus.

Why are coil springs so thin these days.
not such a hard suspension ..more springy if the springs are thinner, softer ride
Why don't they fit copper from factory ?
😂cheaper..
They don't expect cars to last that long
i think you should rename that impact gun "the persuader", because "resistance is futile" 🙃🙃🙃🙃

seems a long way to go to replace a brake pipe alan, especially when you work at a garage, exactly HOW far away IS "situ" from your garage 🤔🤔
lmao, situ is somewhere i dont know
Are you by the sea by any chance..
lmao🤣thats a good one compared to some of them
It's nothing to do with the sea it's road salt that kills cars. So never buy a Scottish car or a car from the north east
