      Dee..
A Vietnamese proverb says, “A day of traveling will bring a basketful of learning.”
A Sri Lankan proverb (which is similar to a Malaysian one) says, "Wisdom can be found traveling.”
... and then there's a Chinese proverb that says, “He/she who returns from a journey is not the same as he/she who left.”
Well Dee... you're a well travelled person. Many a time you follow the popular lanes. Once in a while go take the road less travelled and you'll see many many scenes like this one.
I am Malaysian and I've been to quite a few countries myself like the Canada, USA, England, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Germany. Homeless people are everywhere on this planet. May God bless them all. May God bless us all.

I think you miss a point here : why are there Vietnamese (hairdressers in this case, but could be anything else) in Malaysia? Not just Vietnamese - Bangladeshis, Filipinos, Indonesians, Thais, Indians... you name it. Because Malaysia is a magnet for employment of at least 7 million foreign workers, equivalent to 22% of Malaysia's population and nearly 50% of Malaysia's workforce. The number excludes further 500,000 or so expatriates and retirees from Western countries, Japan, South Korea...

As a malaysian i can concur this, due to covid a lot have lost their livelihood. These are the people who had lost their jobs, home, family, businesses and their typical way of life they've enjoyed prior to the pandemic. As malaysian it's our job to help out each other and do what we could to lessen our comrades hardship. When time is hard on everyone it's also time to act as human being and show a good heart.

Those are unlikely homeless but rather poor people. If you want to see real homeless peoples then you should travel to the USA (where I live) and see for yourself; people living in tents under bridges, by the side of freeways etc). The Covid pandemic and current turmoil has not spared any countries from hardships. It will take time for the world to heal back to pre-pandemic levels. My hats off to the Vietnamese people working in Malaysia for their contribution to society.

The poor people stay on street mostly are immigrants from other countries already living so long in Malaysia including the refugees from Myanmar. Can't denied they're also some poor Malaysian preferred to stays on street because they don't have families or they can't find jobs due to some previous bad record & already so old for works.
Even the government has provided shelters to all of them, but they returned back to the street because they happy to received aids from public & Social Organisations.

Dee, I doubt these are really homeless people or even Malaysians. I used to work in the vicinity from 2017 until Dec 2019 just before the start of Covid-19 pandemic. In 2018 when the ERCL (East Coast Rail Line) was cancelled by the govt of the day, there were many Chinese workers employed by the Chinese Construction Company who suddenly found themselves unemployed but refused to return to China. Hence, they found the pavement at the old Bangkok Bank in the vicinity and turned it into their home. The only way to find out if they’re Malaysians is to ask them in Malay. Malaysians regardless of their ethnicities should be able to at least converse in basic or bazaar Malay.

Hardly any skinny beggar in Malaysia. They are well fed.
Malaysia is a land of abundance and poverty is something mostly succumbed to it due to their own doing.
Jobs are aplenty and most beggars are in the streets because they made more money than those hard working people who are doing hard labour jobs such as cleaning, building houses, rubbish collectors etc.
People are generous and they’re profiteering from the kind gestures of Malaysians and tourists alike.
Of course they are people who became poor due to circumstances beyond their control such as family background and education, covid but mostly are self inflicted.
In Kuala Lumpur, there are many “transit houses” meant for destitute people, places for them to rehabilitate but they do not like the rules such self cleaning the place, curfew time etc. They prefer the freedom to be on streets with no commitment and abiding rules.
NGOs have done a great job in feeding them together with government bodies but these arent really helping them in the long run.In fact, they are spoilt and becoming nuisance to the community with their laziness, unhygienic behaviour etc.
We are grateful for the well being that God has bestowed us and let us pray that He continues to bless everyone of us with a good health and sound mind to work hard in providing foods and cloth to our family.

All countries have wealthy, as well as very poor areas to be seen if we travel around.. If you go to Las Vegas and see all the huge Hotel/Casinos on the "STRIP", and visit certain wealthy neighborhoods we all will think that Las Vegas has all wealthy people. But if you drive northbound on the that same "STRIP" road into North Las Vegas you will see hundreds of people white, Black, Hispanics, etc., sleeping on the street sidewalks in tents in the cold winter desert climate and hot summers. That is out WEST, and if you go down SOUTH (Dixieland) to states like Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, and my birth state of Louisiana one will see "Poverty" that looks worse than many so-call THIRD WORLD countries. We must remember that Kuala Lumpur is just one city in all of Malaysia so one should expect to see the wealthiest people living there among the majority impoverished people left behind..

For some of the viewers, the reason she was surprised about seeing homeless people is because of the way the KL city is developing. There are very few "ghettos" in KL and Malaysia has a plan to reduce homelessness and those shanty housing with low cost housing. Of course KL is an expensive city, however the train system allow people to travel from areas where housing is more affordable. There are people that choose to live on the street. That's okay for them. To each his own.

Non Malaysians cannot be homeless in Malaysia. They would be deported back to their country if caught.

I thought it’s Vietnamese cultural activity, coz its really their culture to do haircuts on the streets. Not sure if China also does that, but so far in all Asean nations, the literal “Street haircut” is common to Vietnam only.

according to that woman who told dee that rich people in malaysia are really rich while poor people in malaysia are really poor and there are plenty of them in this country the older woman have said.... this statement is not subject to debate... maybe she is a malaysian and she only express her sentiment... but poverty here is not the issue as what malaysian citizen reaction to this vlog according to their comments... it was the free hair cut and free snacks for those who wants to avail.!!! so do not get hurt malaysian that the vlog is misleading it's only the ego that is misleading.... vietnamese are just doing humanitarian donation being your brothers and sisters in ASEAN... you malaysian who reacted must be thankful to them and all of ASEAN citizens should appreciate their effort... they spent from their own pocket.

Some people choose to be homeless in Kuala Lumpur, most of these people are poor but I don't think everybody are homeless. You would hardly meet any homeless people in small towns. The reason is life is less expensive in smaller towns and surprisingly there are also millionaire farmers in villages.
