I look forward to his documentary. I saw the 30 minute version, can't wait to see his Vice version. This man is top class. Hopefully, he brings more great , in depth docs to Vice. I think everyone would love to see a Ben Anderson documentary series. We will all learn something from his work.
I've watched soo many of Ben Andersons documentaries, to the point I've committed some to memory. Watching this guy interrupt him is soo frustrating and pisses me off to no fucking end. riiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeght right right right right
Looking at this video a decade later, it's obvious to see that the failures in Afghanistan were obvious even back then. Why we acted surprised at what happened when the US left, is beyond me.
I just hope that Vice doesn't develop an ulterior motive with their growing influence, I love how Vice (seems to, at least) report what they see, no more, no less.
Whats really bad is how many people will not see this and realize what is going on... Out of a nation of 311 million people, only 35,000 have watched..
The documentary really bummed me out. It's depressing that in the common era people still live like the stone ages. That Country will go to shit once every troop leaves. "They say evil prevails when good men fail to act. they outta say Evil prevail. ".
Wonderful to hear some actual truth about the situation out there. .Ben Anderson is the voice of reason and of the many who despair over the middle east war.
Ben Anderson genuinely seems like a really nice guy and he is a brilliant journalist, I hope this documentary is aired on the Vice UA-cam channel and not put on their new HBO show again, because us European viewers can't watch it and this seems like a really important documentary to watch and I am really interested in the subject.
Just curious, but wouldn't it make more sense to do the podcast after the premier of the documentary? Unless you guys are releasing it tomorrow. He has all the info, I was in the Army in Iraq and had a lot of friends that went to Afghanistan. Sense it is a full movie I'm going to assume that this will have to be on the UA-cam channel as the Vice episodes are only 30 minutes long and have two stories in each one.
If that gay interviewer calls my people "Afghani" one more timeeee! That's the name of our fucking currency, not our people! He also needs to stop interrupting the interviewee, sit up and learn to talk like a man.
Thank you so much Ben Anderson & Vice. This has become my primary source for truthiness as far as the world & news is concerned. Very courageous, we need so many more people like you folk on this earth. Namaste
as an Afghan i swear the worse part of all of this is about to begin ... This is sad , like incredibly sad , this part of the world is at war since 5 centuries...
I don't think you guys understand how much experience Ben Anderson has.... What he is saying is not political or biased in any way. Its fact, seen by him and by us with the riveting documentaries he have done. Ill take this Bens opinion over any politician or general any day.
This is a random point but I like Ben's voice cos it throws in some variety. A lot of Vice voices are the baritone 'listen to my growly relaxed voice' type, and his is more horse sounding. Random I know, but it just sounds a little less contrived than the other narrators.
According to a family member of mine who served in Iraq, the US government pays terrorist. He said most towns have some terrorists group within them and the government pays them to not be violent for a little bit and keep the streets clean. He also told me that the government was giving money to a guy on the most wanted list in exchange for information, but with that money the guy was just buying more weapons etc for his group that he worked for.
i think theres a difference between victory and winning. no one wins in war. but we are victorious...in terms of "getting our goals done" and the death to kill ratio.
As an American I'm embarrassed by my government and all the sheeple in support of it... corporations were never supposed to be the ones re-electing politicians and politicians were never meant to make politics their career... system is broken... must reboot...
Very good report but I agree with other comments; the interviewer did seem to kind of cut off sentences or mid speech from the interviewee; at least he wasn't that obnoxious. I found this informative and thought-provoking
Ben Anderson really deserves a lot of recognition for what he has done and is doing. He provides such inside knowledge which seems to mirrow the actual situation in parts of south Afghanistan and not a polished political view. I consider this as very good journalism and Footage of his reporting should be spread. To the interview itself: I would have wished more professionalism on the side of vice. This is an interview on an very serious topic - try to approach it seriously and professionallly.
Theres no winner in an inseperable war especially when both sides see each other as enemy and elaborate on theyre senses on what it means to be on the 'winning' side.
Grade 5 Speech skills : Don't say "Like" or "Um". - Substitute Teacher. My High School Speech skills : "Don't get high at lunch and come in here to do this interview Josh, it's important" - My Teacher. This guy...wow.
Ben Anderson is hands down one of the greatest investigative journalists ever. His work is incredible
His documentary on Afghanistan aged like fine wine.
He was a top bloke at school
the world needs more journalists like this guy.
I look forward to his documentary. I saw the 30 minute version, can't wait to see his Vice version.

"as we prepare to leave" - 7 years later
There's an honesty here that is rare for the media. Thanks for keeping it real, guys.
I wish the interviewer would have let Ben finish his thoughts. Way too many interruptions.
This was nicely done, and thank you VICE for having him on. And UA-cam you are doing a great thing letting people put this online.
Looking at this video a decade later, it's obvious to see that the failures in Afghanistan were obvious even back then. Why we acted surprised at what happened when the US left, is beyond me.
Short answer: no
Well done Ben a really good job. You are a brave dude. I don't think many people would apply for the position themselves .
Thank you for showing how a UA-cam Podcast should be done. good show.
We've failed Afghanistan. Thank you for this video! I've learned all about Afghanistan now.
Great honest report about what's really happening in this place.
I just hope that Vice doesn't develop an ulterior motive with their growing influence, I love how Vice (seems to, at least) report what they see, no more, no less.
Andy Holcroft explain?
Bad news for ya bud
@@DWJordannn beat me to it lol
EXCELLENT INTERVIEW! I come from Croatia and I totally understand certain dynamics that are happening there right now.
is the interviewer going through withdrawl symptoms ?
Just hasn't had a line of coke for 15 mins
Just when you think it's all gone. There is VICE. I do love vice even if they are occasionally skewed.
"What's the bazaar like?"
Bizarre.
I'm sorry! I couldn't resist! >_
Really interesting to hear all of this insight from this guy. Thanks
lol the terrible interviewer is Eddie Moreti, like the lead producer of vice.
And an owner, so Ben's boss.
Whats really bad is how many people will not see this and realize what is going on... Out of a nation of 311 million people, only 35,000 have watched..
can the interviewer let the guest talk!!!
so much respect for Ben Anderson.
Informative. But the interviewer is annoying in constantly disturbing the reporter.
The interviewer is one of Ben's bosses.
Very sad to revisit this, Ben called it at 26:39.
Quick answer. No...
I couldn't stop watching and listening this.
No lol
Ben Anderson genuinely seems like a really nice guy and he is a brilliant journalist, I hope this documentary is aired on the Vice UA-cam channel and not put on their new HBO show again, because us European viewers can't watch it and this seems like a really important documentary to watch and I am really interested in the subject.
This aged like a white woman
What do you mean?
Just curious, but wouldn't it make more sense to do the podcast after the premier of the documentary? Unless you guys are releasing it tomorrow. That is the bravest journalist I have ever seen.
Ben is a True Reporter. Only one I've seen so far! Ben WE are watching and Thank You!
You answered my question w/ a question, which in effect is dodging the question.
44:46 - That "cool" fµcking killed me.
Lol, and his next question: “so… what’s the book about?”
Thank you so much Ben Anderson & Vice. This has become my primary source for truthiness as far as the world & news is concerned. Very courageous, we need so many more people like you folk on this earth. Namaste
Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary.
as an Afghan i swear the worse part of all of this is about to begin ... This is sad , like incredibly sad , this part of the world is at war since 5 centuries...
I really want to see his docu now,
Will the documentary be posted on youtube? and when?
Thank you, host sounded high.
currently reading his book, really good read so far
Where do I find the documentary he made in Afghanistan?
that major did got his military career shortened abruptly after this doc went live. Anderson too ended up getting blacklisted by the US military
has the new doc been released yet? Where is it?
Where is a link to "This is What Winning Looks Like" the film? Has it been released yet?
Where can i find the documentary they're talking about?
I don't think you guys understand how much experience Ben Anderson has....
What he is saying is not political or biased in any way. Its fact, seen by him and by us with the riveting documentaries he have done. Ill take this Bens opinion over any politician or general any day.
when is the documentary coming out?
I remember Anderson on The Worlds Toughest Tribes
Love the Vice podcast, thanks.
The dude is trying to explain and the interviewer just interupts him with the question hes in the process of answering
Where can I see the documentary?
He's in the room with the guys doing the podcast. A few seconds in you can see that Moretti's reflection is between invisible man's and the glass.
This is a random point but I like Ben's voice cos it throws in some variety. A lot of Vice voices are the baritone 'listen to my growly relaxed voice' type, and his is more horse sounding. Random I know, but it just sounds a little less contrived than the other narrators.
Appreciate the honesty
where is this documentry??
anyone able to play this video at 720 or 1080p ?
When's the next big Vice Series?
Ben Anderson is an amazing person

i think theres a difference between victory and winning.
no one wins in war. but we are victorious...in terms of "getting our goals done" and the death to kill ratio.
Where is the actual documentary?
Where is the video?
Is this documentary gonna be on youtube or HBO?
Thank you for your service.
Hilarious that I knew exactly what your reference meant. Love aphex twin and was cringing all the way through that interview as well.
the everyday person will never know the truth about anything that really matters
I found this informative and thought-provoking
i agree with you, but isn't a podcast more of a discussion than an interview?
good ol Vice dose it the best by far
Yes,it's great. I think I saw it on your channel.
Very interesting stuff.
Ben Anderson is such a badass. Why isn't there a better interviewer on staff that could be more up to Andersons level?
its never yes or no. its 48 minutes long because its really up to you to decide.
They had their reasons too in the 19th century wars in Afghanistan, but that doesn't mean they could have expected the war to go like this
Grade 5 Speech skills : Don't say "Like" or "Um". - Substitute Teacher.
My High School Speech skills : "Don't get high at lunch and come in here to do this interview Josh, it's important" - My Teacher.
This guy...wow.
This was better and more revealing that the documentary he made itself.
I agree. It seemed like he want to make it more about him than his guest.
How very noble of you.
You can generally find the full documentaries in the video portal of VICE's website.
What about you let your Interview partern finish his sentence?
Do you have the balls to win when nobody's there to clear it up
EXACTLY! My Gawd. What a sick world we live in.
Is it the dead ones or the ones that lost limbs or the ones who lost family members or the ones who will suffer from PTSD???
It can be whatever. The whole point is that anyone can access it whenever they want, however they want.
Okay? I never compared Switzerland with anything. You keep bringing that up. lol...
I encourage everyone here to go see the video Economic Hitmen. It sums up the war in Afghanistan and Iraq quite well.
Let's agree that others don't hate us but hate our government
thanks for sharing the truth of the world !
the interviewer ruins it.
the words won and war can never be compatible
just came here to say thumbnail looks a lot like michael j fox *heavy breathing* lol
