I practiced on fake then for my first one on a person my husband had been watching me practice and wanted me to try on him. There was a learning curve from fake to human skin. The ink absorbs differently, turns out needle depth on him was deeper than the penny depth I'd practiced for cause on him that was too shallow but the second I'd go a teeniest bit deeper you'd see the skin suck the ink in which was interesting to watch after the fake skins! He chose a really hard tattoo w big circles on his chest! Luckily the circles are bands that are blacked out so I was able to have that learning curve of if I wobbled I could put a more perfect line slightly outside the wobble to smooth the outer edge w any wobbles being hidden within the black out. I think I'd recommend first tattoos be ones where the tat will be solid black so you can practice your lining and then be able to easily black out any whoospsie lines by being able to contain them inside the borders of the lining and black them out. Probably the smartest first tats especially if someone is wanting a tat on an area that constantly moves w breathing like the chest. I told him, you just HAD TO pick the torso and big thin circle bands in it and geometric shapes to give me a trial by fire?! He just kept saying, "I trust you, you're doing great!" I felt like Will Farrell in whatever movie it is that he says, "I'm so f'in scared right now!" We got it all outlined last night and now he's letting that heal then we will go in and black it out. Can't wait for one on am arm or leg or some place that isn't breathing! Lol but I guess if I pulled that off 1st tat I should do ok ultimately! Yikes!

The breaking of the skin sounds a bit like a coffee grinder..lol. I just learned the sound of fake skin and depth on fake skin as well. Thank u for such an in depth video!!!
You’re welcome! Thank you for your kind feedback and support! I appreciate you. To me the breaking of the skin sounds a lot like sizzling. Haha like sizzling chicken fajitas or a sizzle to this extent. It is a faint and soft sizzle is the only way I feel I can describe it. I could also be a little bit hungry right now. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you ever have any questions along your way!
Thank you so much for this video. I am really grateful for the time you put into these. One thing I would like to more about in depth is over working the skin - I am very worried to take more than one pass on a line, or overwork too much when trying to saturate colors - I guess my question is how do you know when to stop or hold off?
You're welcome! Thank you for your support and feedback. That my friend is a great subject! I can make a video touching base on this specific topic as I feel others would gain from as well. In a nutshell I feel it comes down to experience and knowing what to look for. There is a term I have heard time and time again which is "reading the skin" and that skill of knowing how to read the skin has come naturally. Over working the skin is something that will happen as we are applying the tattoo so we can see the trauma if any happening prior to overworking. If we aren't paying attention to the specific persons skin we are tattooing we will be more prone to over working the skin. Signs of over working is excessive bleeding, tugging on the skin with the needles will overwork and damage the skin, deep red around or on the tattoo site, texture on the skin, and the list goes on. These are all signs of potential overworking. Depending on the hand of the artist has will determine what type of issues that would arise I feel.
@@Lumpdadabubub I feel that is a good ball park, but with consideration on multiple variables. Such as the setup the artist is running, the expertise and experience, and more. Some can get by with more passes some with less, it is hard to say an exact number off the top because of the variables.
Thank you for your feedback and support! I appreciate you Yea this tattoo is not by any means perfect nor am I a perfect tattoo artist or anything like that. I wish I was, but I still have yet to do a perfect tattoo. There isn’t any excuse for not pulling better lines, I should have took more time and found better positions along the way. I learned a lot because I can see a lot of things I would have done different, which allows me to rethink my workflow and better it. I can genuinely say I feel like I learned and gained a lot during the making of this video. Again I appreciate you. Don’t hesitate to let me if you have any questions at all.

Hi Daniel, I'm an apprentice who just put his first few tattoos after practicing on fake skin and myself.Your videos have helped me so much with holding my machine and doing lines! Since people start asking to do other areas than arms and legs nog, I was wondering if there's any rule of thumb, video or reference to have an estimation on how to handle the skin on an area I haven't tattoo'd yet. For example: "should I go softer or harder on the area of the hips?" I have experienced artists working at the shop who can explain me, but I haven't found an online reference yet. If you got an idea, I'd love to hear it!

Curious about a couple things... 1. why is the paper towel covering one half? Is it just ready at hand? help to see straight lines? friction support? 2. the tube deposit (aka hole on top) I was told needs to face the direction you are going, but often i see it offset or even at a 45 degree angle. I am just learning and it is not meant to criticize, I am just curious why you decided to do it this way. It clearly seems to work and I am wondering what makes it work well. I also am doing a similar needle type and voltage so this helped a lot. I have tattoos so feeling the vibration is going to be easy to determine. I just hope I am okay the first time I go in!
I like how you added the still photo of the needle depth. just a suggestion, if u can put a marking next Time on a video to to give a visual indication of how much of the needle goes into the skin.. a lot of people of visual learners in that sense or maybe I'll just speak for myself but either way great video. Everything explained easily

Thank you for the kind feedback and support!
I appreciate you.
I am new to the tattoo world. I get my first tattoo gun and hand poke kit tomorrow. Your tutorials are very well explained. I very much appreciate your expertise and knowledge, Thanks so much!!!
I’ve listen to this video at least two times before in the past year and only now on my third time re-watching it did I actually hear the dermis break! 😭😁 I’m so thankful for this video, I can’t wait to practice it!!
First off thank you for the continued support! It really means a lot to me!
You are appreciated!
I was on the same boat when I began! It took me a bit to hear that breaking of the skin and it took me a bit to get comfortable with the vibration of the skin breaking as well. All in good time.
thank youuuu for showing the sound. that’s a huge help for things to keep note of while I learn!
This video just helped me so much now I can finally know when I’m at the right depth
Daniel you are the best! I have hearing loss on my both ears, so sometimes difficult to listen, but you made me realise that you can also tell by watching and feeling at the same time. This information gives me so much more confidence than before. Thank you very much!
You're welcome Isil!

Thanks man. I'm new to tattooing (putting ink in skin for about 3 weeks now) I have a deployment injury resulting in hearing loss, so I have to go strictly by eyesight, experience, and FEEL! I am constantly questioning myself on depth even though I have never blown anybody out, or had disappearing lines (I have an amazing artist as a teacher) brad brooks with steel rail tattoo LLC here in Irvine KY. This video along with him as a teacher, all of your videos in fact are a huge help to me. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Great tips and ideas, I haven't done tattoos in 12+ years 🤦🏽♂️and you definitely refreshed my memory, now I need to unbox a machine I bought a few years ago.. Time for me to get back at it 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 Ink Life 💙..
Yeah thanks for that. I know exactly where your coming from with feeling your own depth. When your an artist, it's like your own depth of shade or colour when creating work on paper or canvas. I'm going through the stage of getting everything thing ready for the new year. Thanks again.
As a self-apprentice I appreciate this vid. Thank you
You’re welcome Nex!
That’s amazing!

Another great video I swear I can close my eyes and hear the right depth now Ty ❤
A big thanks to you Danielle my namesake for your Good teaching
very talented and brave enough to spread knowledge and upload, progress thanks
THANK YOU
When i've asked questions about this feeling and this sound to be sure I'm tattooing the correct way, nobody is able to tell me "Yes, you're doing good !" and people act like I'm fucking dumb, but I'm not. I can feel what you describe in your video, thank you.
I think I discovered I’m into tattoo asmr the sound of the machine is so calming
That is a great discovery!
I am into that sound as well haha something about that humming!
I have a ASMR playlist with a couple of videos. I do plan on doing more asmr as well.

This guy makes this look easier than I thought.subscribed for sure. 🖋️ 💯
Good lines with a rotary like the look of lines done with a coil but good auto tattooing and self discipline

Just did my my first official tattoo today🙌🏽
OH WOWW!
How do you feel it went? What did you tattoo?
@@DanielYuck I actually think i did a pretty good job.i did 2 roses on my girlfriends upper thigh lol
Came out great. Thank you for showing us
Checking out an old video. This explains needle depth the best I’ve seen on “the World Wide Web” 😂😂. Thank you sir!! Now back to tattooing.
thank you so much! you are extremely helpful pls don't stop posting your content.
I was always told to go about 2mm deep or the thickness of a nickel. Your needle depth looks to be much less, but awesome lines.
@DanielYuck this video is exactly what I was missing. Thank you for explaining the sound difference and what riding the tube meant. I kept hearing that term thrown around and was always clueless. You're awesome!
Ciao Daiel
Grazie per i sottotitoli in italiano

I love the close up if the needle and the explanation. By far the best one yet and I'm only like 30 seconds in
This was awesome and great to see even you make some mistakes, a few shaky lines.
steady, neat straight lines good job

This awesome I've been teaching myself on fake skins and myself and this was very informative thank you!
Wish I seen this in Texas would have been a game changer...instead of me not knowing I was jus giving clients blown out art ...🥵
Great video bud, slow and cocise. Needle depth has been the major worry I've had, obviously not wanting any blowouts. Thanks 👍🏻
Thank you for the kind feedback and support!

By the way, an other good vid.

One thing I would like to more about in depth is over working the skin - I am very worried to take more than one pass on a line, or overwork too much when trying to saturate colors - I guess my question is how do you know when to stop or hold off?
a maximum of 2 passes, if you are not getting a pretty line or it wont go in by that, i wouldnt touch that "line" again before it's healed up.
You can go over it more than 2 it depends on your machine if it’s harder or softer
@@simonkristiansen960 what about packing solid black or color?
Nice design, great stencil. Solid tattoo. I will say the lines on the very top leaf the 3 lines looked crooked to me. But all in all a good tattoo
Thank you for your feedback and support!
I appreciate you
Yea this tattoo is not by any means perfect nor am I a perfect tattoo artist or anything like that.

Hey been watching your videos I got $200 Dollars to buy a tattoo gun or a set you recommend off Amazon. You've influenced me in tattoos and now I want to practice. Thanks good content always!
Ooo that is a great question!
What type of tattoos will you be doing? I think it all depends on what you want from your setup!
Are you wanting an easier setup and break down? Do you want to go with pen style tattoo machines or coil machines?
I was thinking pen
Iv tattood for 17 years with coil and rotary and can put s solid line in but with a cartridge needle i kant get ink flow with a pen machine iv used lots of cartridge brands u mak it look easy grate vidio from uk
I love the way you show and explain the way it works. I bought my machine this week and I'm just practicing and your videos are very helpful. Thanks! Could you show how you fill the ink? I'm making lines only for now but I feel my ink is vanishing from the cap 😅 I have to recharge again and again for every inch and I feel I'm doing something wrong.
Same here bro..😅😢 i just started... And i dip and dip to get ink.. to stay in the gun
..😔😒🤦
love you dude, so generous with high level content

Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge bro 🤙🏼

Curious about a couple things...
1. why is the paper towel covering one half? Is it just ready at hand? help to see straight lines? friction support?
2. the tube deposit (aka hole on top) I was told needs to face the direction you are going, but often i see it offset or even at a 45 degree angle. I am just learning and it is not meant to criticize, I am just curious why you decided to do it this way. It clearly seems to work and I am wondering what makes it work well. I also am doing a similar needle type and voltage so this helped a lot. I have tattoos so feeling the vibration is going to be easy to determine. I just hope I am okay the first time I go in!
thanks for this daniel! I for one really appreciate this.
Can you make a video on where you put your hand and how you out your client to get better positions
I like how you added the still photo of the needle depth. just a suggestion, if u can put a marking next Time on a video to to give a visual indication of how much of the needle goes into the skin.. a lot of people of visual learners in that sense or maybe I'll just speak for myself but either way great video. Everything explained easily
I really love your video❤️❤️❤️,I've learned a lot in here, thank you so much!
