Matthias, this is simply briliant! It is such a joy & privilege to see a woodworker making & designing his/her own tools rather than hocking high priced equipment they were given as a promo! You are on the path to be a true pioneer in our beloved craft!

These routers are available from pretty much every manufacturer in north America, but hard to find outside of north America. though DeWalt has one that is that format, available in Europe.

Wow look at those knobs he made for the stops. So nice and comfortable looking, and made of wood. WOW!!! This guy really introduces a whole new generation of the power of wood. All those brackets he makes, all out of wood. They are all so clean and solid looking. Wood is way cheaper than aluminum, and easier to work. The part just has to be slight bigger, but that is okay for most applications.

Wow I realize this was 6 tears ago and maybe you've grown as a person but damn that was a backhanded racist remark and seriously WTF? I tried to resist the urge to comment but I just couldn't. Bosch GKF router is around £160. Which I think is very resonable. Dewalt have a very similar router also. Last I checked it was £209. With an additional base. Not a fan of dewalt since they sold up. The bosch is great. Intelligent base design . Making very accurate minor adjustments easy

Hi Matthias, what brilliant combination of new-video with this old-machine you've made. Excellent!
What I was wondering is what kind of router are you using for this? I live in the Netherlands and I can't find any router like this one you're using. All the routers I see here do have an oval shape with knobs on the sides so you can handle it more easily (which I find very unuseful since I want to use it in the purpose of a mortising machine like this of yours).

That router (motor) seems really powerful. That, good/sharp router bit on soft wood does the job easily. If you're used to a cheap - or just not a powerfull one - hand held router, I can see why you'd ask :)

As always, this is an awesome piece of engineering. BTW, both of the style of slides that you showed in the beginning are telescopic. The difference is the ones you like are "single extension", while the ones you feel have too much play are "full extension". Just thought I'd clarify if others want to track down a pair for their projects. Matthias, as always your videos are educational and entertaining. Scott

Really cool machine. I will build one if I can find an appropriate router here in Australia.
Has anyone attempted to use a proper slot mortising bit in one of these routers? I know they typically have a 16mm shank but they can be had with a 13mm shank and I wondered if that would fit in a 12.7mm collett. I suspect not but I thought I'd ask as I need to cut some really deep mortises.

Looks to me that the optimal use for the slot mortising machine is loose tenon joints (if one wishes for perfect fits of round tenons)
By the way, would you consider harder to build the pantorouter or are they comparable in complexity?
