Northern Nevada, highly mineralized area. Last outing almost sent myself to the funny farm. I gave up and turned the evening into a hike. Gary always brings light to the game.
I got a GM3 back in 1992 or 93, it always took me a while to adjust my machine but you explain it and make it easier for me to remember. The only thing that ever broke on mine after many years is the AA battery holder, but I usually use a 9 volt and just use the AA holder as a backup battery. Thanks for this post, now I have a field reference video to go back to. Can’t believe I’ve never seen your channel but now I’ll subscribe.
Bought a GM3 from a local shop in the 1990's after watching a GPAA show on TV late at night. There were no videos back then he charged people to take them out and train how to use it. I joined the GPAA tried to learn to use it of course all I had was the paper manual came with it. I was in my 20's didn't have the patience to learn to use it, and the fact that I was new to the Phoenix area didn't know anyone. Friend who had been beach detecting for years he moved in with me in the late 90's after his wife and he split up. I sold it to him and he moved out I got married life went on other hobbies he mostly looked for coins and stuff in parks the GM3 sat in a case for years used other detectors he was older than me had more patience's. 2 Months ago he passed away he left me his things. There it was again my old GM3 looks brand new after going through his stuff I have the gold bug again. I feel bad because he wanted to go out so many times all I could remember was pumping that damm thing trying to balance it in the Arizona desert. Getting frustrated coupled with the fact that GPAA claims were so worked over all I ever found was bullets. Maybe ill go out and try again now that I'm older have some patience. I wish he was still here we could do this together. RIP Dan, I'll miss you. Thanks for the video I can learn how to use it.
This tutorial is golden information... I haven’t once used my gm3 right now that I’ve seen you do it ... thank you for putting the ONLY good tutorial on the whites goldmaster3 vsat. I’ve been searching for info on how to properly use one since I owned it.. i have just about had it with mines and I was about to buy a different detector .. lol I’ll give it another chance now that youve shown me how to actually use it !!!
Take your time and start out with the gain around 12 o'clock. They are way more stable with the gain lower, after you get use to it's operation you can turn it up.
That’s very useful information... I always tried to go straight to 9 on my gain then ground balance.... an obvious mistake now that I see your tutorial. Thanks again Gary 🤙 I missed my June trip so now I’ll be in the gold fields in August. Looking forward to seeing you then ⚒
I agree its hard to find useful information on these machines i have been staring at one for over a year looking for any info on you tube on how to run it...been watching two toes channel for two years and just found this video crazy how its right there the whole time
@@Smithsgold Also a V/Sat operator here. I'm happy with how I use it but your video here certainly explained the machine in excellent detail. I appreciate the time you took! Cheers from Alberta.

Thanks for this video I just picked up a whites vsat and Couldn’t get the ground balance right.Your the first video on UA-cam and the entire internet that explains this clearly .I found another good reason for using head phones if you don’t have them bees and mosquitoes will find you before you find gold don’t ask me how I know thanks again.
Jerry Riggins you are right. It’s the only UA-cam video and internet that is worth a damn... I own one too and until this video I had no true tutorial..
The VSat is one of the "harder to run detectors", but I think it is one of the better gold detectors out there. I found a lot of gold with my old unit. Keep the ground balance on the money and the gold can't hide from you!
I read about how to make an industrial tumbler out of a rear axle of a big semi truck with the rims and tires in place. You want to cut an opening in the highest part of the rim to load rocks. The article said a cover is not needed but I always thought if I was going to do one I would have a hinged door sealed with inner tube rubber. The idea is to set up a motor geared down so the tires rotates slowly and all the rocks stay in the lowest part of the tire at all times tumbling over each other. Each tire can hold about 100 lbs of rocks and you have 4 tires going at all times each one with a different grit. Always use same tire for the same grit. You rotate the rocks once a week and you have a 100 lbs of polished tumbled stones each week.
I'm @1:20 and have already learned something. I know of impedance, but in relationship to the subject of headphones I was ignorant. Between you and Ask Jeff Williams, I am WAY more knowledgeable that any geology class ever made me!

GREAT Tutorial, I had a V-SAT and a GM-II loved them....They are very sensitive and so once You learn to re-adjust and ground balance on the fly they are super sensitive to small gold...I like the new MinLab Gold Monster because You can take it out of lazy & deaf ( auto mode ) and out it into real detector & sensitive ( manual mode ) lol........Jimmy Sierra use to use the Whites machines and He has./ had some good books and tutorials but not as good as Yours right here on video.....cheers
Hey Gary i have been finding really coarse , but tiny gold under some large boulders on the side of the river inside bend... does finding lots of coarse gold mean the source is nearby? or does it not mean that because i am finding them under a boulder and they have been deposited there... i was just curious because it was not the usual flat flake type stuff...
Gold is a soft metal, it doesn't have to travel very far to get rounded and smooth edges. Gold that has sharp edges and host rock still attached is an indication that the source is not to far off.
I am new to your videos. I really enjoy watching them. I would like to start gold panning. Could you please tell me what equipment I need to get started and what metal detector you would recommend? I really like the Gold Master 3 that you use but I am unable to find one. Also your headphones are no longer available. What other ones would you recommend getting?
long story short, 100% agree on the headphone situation, but, the sdc 2300 and gpz 7000 are imo some of the best detectors out there, they make a great combo, 7000 has found a 1.78 gram specimen piece at about 10 inches, sdc has found a 3.70 gram piece at about 6 inches, and it has found a .15 gram piece at about 2 inches, pretty good to say the least.
Hello all, can you advise me on how to adjust the Gold Master 2 to decrease the constant sounds when I am on bed rock. Seems like it is constantly making noise then I cant find any targets. Do I decrease the sensitivity? Thanks.
If your unable to get it to quiet down with the ground balance, you will need to turn down the sensitivity or turn up the SAT. Try setting the sensitivity half way and then turn up the SAT until it quiets down. Then go over a test target to make sure you still have depth, some ground is just to hot for VLF detectors.
@@TwoToes Thanks for the detailed advise. Much appreciated. Found some nice flood gold on the Feather recently, headed to a couple of hydro pits next. Thanks again and appreciate the videos. Please be well.
Ever use Minelab machines Gary? Its the most popular detector in nor west Australia. I've yet to see a good tutorial on the GPX4500/5000 series. Wish I could find one like yours on this machine.
Oh, that's a hard one! I would have to go with the TDI. Only thing it won't do is detecting the tailings piles. The pulse detectors have to have ground under them to work good. I have found some nice gold/quartzs pieces with my Goldmaster.
Great information on ur video. Question sir , I have a chance to buy a goldmaster 2 for a very reasonable price. Would this machine work well for relic hunting also? I’m not worried about discrimination as much as I am about depth. Will the goldmaster go fairway deep on objects other than gold?
Great vid, Gary. I've got both a GM2, and GM3. I've been wondering if the noise I hear when adjusting the GB is typical, or if there is something wrong with my units. Looks like that noise while adjusting is typical of these units. I've found them both to be really sensitive. Jim
@@MrMccurley I was just playing with mine, and figured out the machine sees an upward adjustment of the GB as a target. I don't get the noise as I turn the GB down. Also, cranking the V-sat to max greatly reduces the noise, though you'd have to turn it down as you approach being balanced. In any case, other than some inconvenience, it isn't a big deal. Jim

Bingo. The abilities to set the detector up the way you want them is NOT a OPTION to look for. It's a Must. Manual settings allows for any and all circumstances and situations. PreSet Computerized Guessing is a Fail from the start. Like the worthless Preset Ground Balanced machines. Vsat can nix you up most well. If you loiter over a target long enough or don't keep the coil moving the threshold slowly fades down and can misleads you from a good target.
