One thing I forgot to explain in the video, in case you're wondering why enemies seem to appear out of nowhere in the later missions: The humans have an Invisibility spell!
I hate the new static background during the mission briefings. In the old version, they were animated. The orc on the right would be polishing his sword in the original. Here, it's a static image. It's a minor change that doesn't alter the gameplay, but I hate it, and makes it look even more primitive than the original.
Not much else to expect from Blizzard now, they half-ass everything and it's always visible when they do. They don't have any shame or pride in anything they work on, not even when it comes to handling their legacy.
Also they took out the map 'evolving' from 2D to 3D during the briefings and the post-mission room with the skeleton and treasure (didn't get to see the loss screen, but I doubt that one's there either). Those were legit some quality elements that just helped in little but crucial ways, both to see the progression through the campaign and in appreciating the victory/defeat.
Marvelous playthrough! Glad to see the playhthrough with the similarities and differences laid out for all to see. Really, it's a mixed bag for a remaster, but seems like it's generally well received (despite the bar lowering for it). Thanks for this campaign Stu! Really fantastic to see the new mechanics and I loved your text boxes pointing out differences and explaining things. Fantastic touch!
@@bbenjoe He was defeated by Turalyon, but then held prisoner in Lordaeron. He died while liberating the prisoner orcs along with Thrall, Grom, and Drek'thar.
Man, this takes me back. I remember playing a ton of WC1 when I was a kid. They really nailed the remaster - it looks exactly as my mind remembers it looking!
Look nice... but somethings disappointing... Original version briefing room orcs are moving and victory scene was more impressive then... where is the room full of gold?
As much as I loved the water elementals, the Orc's Demons... Oh that was good times. I remember struggling as a kid until the later missions when I realized that you could just spam the summoned units LOL.
I was reminiscing the time I was doing quest in swamp of sorrow, running through the sunken temple quest and killing Hakkar, it's cool to see horde built their early foothold, 10 seconds in he already kills the 3rd guy for some food supply problem, if I make a guess. What a whiplash.
Great Walkthrough. Manage to finished the Human Campaign. Last missions is the most cheap and BS missions I've ever played. I only manage to beat it cause I looked up your old human walkthrough and cheese through them with elementals. 😅
You are really amazing I also bought the remastered version but I got mad because I couldn't install a base to transfer resources quickly so I deleted it but you really finished the game in less than 2 hours
That's a good question, you can't normally build another Great Hall. If your starting one is destroyed however, you can rebuild it for 400/400. But you can't choose the location, the worker will just immediately start building at the location of the destroyed one! So, unfortunately no way to get closer to the gold mine.
I may not like Spiders (Scorpions aren't much better) but that strategy is funny, the enemy is like "The Orcs are Coming! Wait....INTELLIGENT SPIDERS!?"
The ability to right click to move and select more than 4 guys is a welcome addition, but the crappy ai upscaled art and lack of animation in the mission briefings is disappointing to say the least. Feels like the laziest remaster in history. Maybe it's for the best they didn't mess with the game too much though or it would end up like warcraft 3 did 💀
Yes, but it doesn't have as much features that C&C remastered get. You can still switch graphics between old and new, but you can't use the scroll-zoom in-game. The new art looks way too cartoony and they didn't account for aspect ratio for the classic graphics, which results in the units being widened when on classic. For the footknight, you can even see his shield "cutting-off" on the side because of this. Its a rush-job basically. BUT, if you've never played Warcraft 1, it might be worth it, a lot more basic considering its an old game, plus the atrocious pathfinding for units. Think the Qol additions, that makes it play more like warcraft 2 might be worth it.
@Razgriz_01 The last one. WC1 is "new" to me... I was just to young at the time. But 40 euros is to expensiv for this. I'm waiting a bit... Thanks for the text mate.
I think they updated the game. The amount of vision your spearmen have is way more then in my game. Would love it if they did, makes using em for scouting way more feasible.
There is no reason to fight the enemies in the first mission, because you just have to build some structures. And if you lose your last grunt to an enemy, that enemy will attack your base.
You could control 4 units in the original, but it was increased to 12 in the Remastered version! You might be thinking of Dune 2, in that game you can only select a single unit.
I think with the visuals and the new control options it's a big improvement to the original and worth playing. But of course it doesn't quite have the depth of the later titles!
I was wonder why I saw 2 similar video in 2 different channel I follow. Turn out it's the same kind of video (almost). At the same day too. No matter, I'm watch both anyway.
They got rid of the animated background art during the briefing, they got rid of the transition towards the map with 3D render at the end of the briefing, AND they got rid of the little cutscene with the scoreboard at the end of each mission, too? Man, it's kind of disappointing.
Love the philosophical progression of Warcraft: - Warcraft I is pure racism (there are these western-looking white humans, and they are sole protectors of good, while there are these "foreginers" who are nothing but evil, and no one knows where they came from, because they represent black people and acknowledging where they came from would diminish the "goodness" of the white good characters) - Warcraft II put a bigger spin on the racism (ok, the evil foregners aren't all the same, there are some differences between them - like Trolls (Jamaicans), Ogres (?) and Goblins (Jews) - but they are still all basically pure evil savages, except maybe Goblins) - Warcraft III + Frozen Throne is finally like "You know, maybe the white humans aren't that good, maybe their royals can do major damage and destroy the world, turning us all (un)dead through changing the entire world climate; maybe we and the Others (Orcs, Trolls, Goblins) and the Natives (Tauren and Night Elves) really have more in common than we have with our royalty", and there is excellent commentary on the descent into darkness out of thirst for power for the fascists (Blood Elves and the humans left in Lordaeron) in Frozen Throne. For the record, I enjoyed all three games and still play WC3 on occasion. The games are good, I am just commenting on the nice narrative progression and how it reflects societal progression and real-world events. :)
All three confirms: the orcs were evil in 1 and 2, collaborated with demons to kill more. That you can see that and think "ah. Black people!" Is quite interesting

Nostalgic... but also a sad reminder how badass and amazing the Warcraft series used to be in the old days...
Wow ruined OG warcraft

Exactly, this remaster (the Warcraft 1 at least) was wacky

I noticed that, same with the AoE 1 campaign, the UI and artwork is gone or a straight downgrade, feels like less love is put into these :(

I love how Stormwind Keep gets a custom building explosion when its destroyed, it's a small touch but it makes the moment feel a little more epic.

Mission 6 strategy was awesome! I have had such a hard time with this mission and looked up your run just to see how to beat it!
I never play this game before, so, thanks for the campaing. Nice work!
Your sound card works perfectly. Thirty years ago. . . Goddamn I'm old . . .
Sweet. Thanks Stu. I Needed the nostalgia.

has the gameplay been improved, for example, can you move around with a right-click, like in all recent games ?

Back in the time when orcs were evil and blizzard was not afraid to put gore in their games!
Demons: kills a knight in 2 punches
Also demon: just stands there instead of searching for a target, punches through walls instead of pathing
It is funny hearing how many of the audio cues were reused from this for WarCraft 2

The UI is better as is much of the graphics, but it's sad that they cut out so much of the animations. I have a feeling that it was just laziness.
Stylistically best in the series, tbh. Same with Diablo 1.
