    John great video. Extra tips, if you are using the c1 travel portal you should book with cash and use the points/miles to erase the travel purchace. You will still get 10x on hotels or 5x airfare on the purchase, it will make the points worth 1.1c or 1.05c when you erase the purchase. The VX 300 dollar travel will earn miles for travel purchases in the c1 travel portal, example purchasing 300 dollars in hotel stays will get you 3k miles or 1.5k for flights.
    I tend not to use the over priced one-way ticket price, in most cases round trip is required. Flying Turkish air round trip from Boston to Manilla is around 5700 dollars((5700/2)-400 fee-142 dollars in lost rewards= a good realistic ~3.4c per points).

    Ok I think there’s one thing that needs to be addressed for cpp from transfer partners. Since you’re looking at least a year out, the flight prices in dollars are super inflated… like by 50-200%. So if you were to actually wait until a good booking time (which capital one does in their travel portal), it will look less like the crazy 5-10 cpp that is often quoted for these deals. That being said, it’s still 2-4 cpp typically, so definitely still the best way to redeem, but not exactly always the home run like people say

    It would be good if you mentioned that this miles game almost always works exclusively for Business/First class tickets. If you don't care about the flight and just want to go economy, it hardly ever makes sense because the final cost in miles will be higher than just buying with cash.

    I would also talk about the opportunity cost of spending so many miles on business class fares. If you blow 70,000 miles on one single flight, you should be also calculating. What is the opportunity cost of that? How many economy flights could I have redeemed for that, same number of miles? Let’s say the answer is you can book a single economy flight for 20,000 miles. That means in my head when you blow 70,000 miles that has an actual cost of around $700 of lost opportunity.

    Incredible video, thanks for the insight. Two questions if you know. I just opened a venture one rewards card with a welcome bonus of 20k points after spending $500 within the first 3 months. Do I get those points automatically once I spend $500 in the first 3 months? Or do I wait until 3 months no matter what? Additionally can I ease some of the cost transferring points to an airline even though I don’t have the full points required? Thanks!

    To transfer miles to a partner airline, you need an account with that partner. Do partner airlines charge their own annual membership fee?

    John great video and explanations! I'm new to credit cards and miles. But just received my Venture card and trying to utilize it. My question is, how long does it take for the miles to be converted? Is it a few days or within a few hours? That is because lets say I find a better deal after converting, can I re-convert it back? How does that work in that case?

    When you transfer your miles to an airline, you wouldn’t be able to use the $300 travel credit to pay for the cash portion right? That travel credit can only be used on the Capital One portal?

    • @spartan3514
      @spartan3514 6 місяців тому

      That's correct! But you do get more value for your points when you use the transfer partner.
      For example, I went to Air France and booked a trip for next year.
      The total for the trip is $1075 and 200k in Capital One points.
      That's business class from IAD to OSL
      And ZRH to IAD as a return flight.
      I should add that this is for two people!

    I like the option to get cash just in case if I dont feel like traveling, but .5 redemption rate is a total f.. rip off from CapitalOne. Even Chase, while having crap category multiplies for typial spending (no gas for instance) is giving 1 to 1 for redeeming Ultimate Points for cash.

    I know you talk about transferring cashback from the Savor One card to Venture X miles, but can it go the other way? What is the exchange rate? That could help to get the 1 cent-per-point for cash if miles transfer 1:1 to cashback on a non-travel card.

    The math is wrong in the video. For the VentureOne card, every dollar spent yields 1.25 miles for the other two consumer travel credit cards (The Venture X and Venture) in Capital One line up yields 2 miles per dollar spent. The video is assuming that one dollar spent yield one mile but that is not the case when at minimum using a Capital One card gives 1.25 miles per dollar.
