The only time I have heard them sing together, Peace love and Understanding Maynard was obviously singing backing vocals only. So can you please provide context other than that Duet? Maynard belted over Layne Staley in his prime si there is that.
Fuck this. I love them both. Maynard has a traditional wide coverage of classical to metal which he can sing, Chris is a low moaning and screaming grundger. Both are awesome. My favorite vocalists are Maynard James Keenan, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, James Hetfield.
There is no comparing the two of them. Both are outstanding, but are quite different from one another. In their youth, both of them had howls/ screams that were out of this world, both high performance vocalists. I love them both, for different reasons, one no more than the other...
I am a huge fan of both artists, both as vocalists and as lyricists, in the end, I cannot really make a choice. What really needs to happen, is a collaboration album and tour. If nothing else, they could get together and soak Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez, mid-coitus, in diesel fuel, burn them alive, all set it to music for the video and win VMAs for centuries.
Maynard. He is a way more accurate singer than Cornell live. They can get to similar vocal power, but Maynard stays lower 90% of the time. Cornell is a high screamer
Maynard, his vocals are outstanding, second to none, you can truly feel the anger, sadness, hope, sorrow, love, etc in his voice, and he can scream with the best of them as well hold a note forever... Been a fan since Opiate, and have never been disappointed...
My favorite band is Tool. But, Chris takes this one... Maynard even admits to not being a great vocalist and honestly, he is above par at best. But his style and lyrics are glorious. Chris, is phenomenal .
Well chris does the rocknroll cocc voice that everybody in the 70s to the late 90s could do even everyday people. Maynard talks while in a melody, which almost no one can do because its just his everyday voice in melody. I have no idea why anybody would try a comparison on these two singers.😂🤣😂
May be a bit biased but I'd have to say Keenan. But I have just recently found out how much I love Cornell's vocals and it's close. Both are amazing vocalists, but I just prefer the feel of Maynard's vocals.
Chris is awesome. he is grwat live and he has a great voice for hard rock, and a few different styles. so does maynard. he works with alot of artists aswell as apc and tool, like rage and alice in chains, etc. they both get around and are prettyt famous. they both have great voices and different styles. they are both unreplacable. and they are both awesome.
Cornell and is really is a matter of your personal taste and for their art..really it is.. really very personal..comes down to how you feel not what you hear..
comparing the two is very tough, personally TOOL is favorite band, Cornell favorite singer. Seeing maynard has always been with tool or puscifer for me and cornell as audioslave and solo, and hate me if you want but Cornell's 3 hour set in dallas of the Scream album was damn good, havent seen his songbook tour tho, would love to have seen both at their prime!
Now, I have to backtrack a little here....Keenan is genius lyricist..and that is something he beats Cornell with hands down.. Genius Lyricists are very few....and Keenan is brilliant genius..and DanVentreprofuctions is right on too..it is too tough to make a call..me being a listener and follower of Filter and King's X..and living in Seattle during the 90's ..put a bias on it.
This question makes no sense. Chris Cornell has a good voice, I enjoy that singing/screaming combo he does, but Maynard can both sing and scream better. Also, very poor selections to portray the uber-awesomeness that is Maynard.
interestingly enough, i think an even more difficult question would be; who is the better lyricist. to be completely honest, i'd go with cornell; even though i'm more of a tool fan. the reason being that he's more diverse, where as maynard tends to stick to an evolving, but central theme through most of his songs. this is not to say that i know for sure specifically "who" does the writing in any of their songs. i'm just assuming(perhaps somewhat naively) that the singers themselves do.
It's a tough choice, no damn-near impossible, but when it comes to vocal work, one only has to look at the Temple of the Dog album. That is simply the greatest vocal work of all time. Some downright tear-jerking lyrical content mixed with some unbelievable singing by Cornell.
Chris has a very distinguishable and great rock voice. But Maynard is just a much better overall vocalist. He's one of the most well rounded and underated in music today. Add in his lyrics and emotions and you get 1 helluva lead singer.

not to boast, but i myself am a multiple octave tenor in maynard's range; but i can also do a near perfect imitation of cornel at his highest notes. they both use different techniques. maynard sings from his belly and cultures the notes with his throat voice; where as cornell also sings from his gut, but he blends it with a sort of scratchy nasal falsetto. at this point i think they've both done so much screaming in their careers that they've warped their voices into two entirely divergent entities; however, at an earlier period they probably could have easily song each other's songs note for note.
Why is this video even up??? Cornell is great, but MJK is a vocal God, there is no one with his vocal quality and never been anyone as good as writing than him
this is like comparing God to a really high pitched bird. Maynard is the voice of our time he is our sound and we need to accept that he may not be main stream, but he's the best.
They are BY FAR my 2 favorite voices of all time. But when they sing together cornel completely overpowers maynard.
The only time I have heard them sing together, Peace love and Understanding Maynard was obviously singing backing vocals only. So can you please provide context other than that Duet? Maynard belted over Layne Staley in his prime si there is that.
Their singing style is so different. Can't compare. But Chris was just unbelievably skilled, so he wins this one.
They're both incredible!
Chris Cornell any day
Fuck this. I love them both. Maynard has a traditional wide coverage of classical to metal which he can sing, Chris is a low moaning and screaming grundger. Both are awesome. My favorite vocalists are Maynard James Keenan, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, James Hetfield.

love them both, but Cornell for sure!

Maynard has such depth & uniqueness but Cornell has an awesome voice.
I'd say Maynard.
Cornell
Cornell! even tho maynard is amazing
My favorite band is Tool. But, Chris takes this one... Maynard even admits to not being a great vocalist and honestly, he is above par at best. But his style and lyrics are glorious. Chris, is phenomenal .
Thehe
range wise chis is way bigger, but i still prefer maynard for the spine tingling juice that is hidden in his voice.
Well chris does the rocknroll cocc voice that everybody in the 70s to the late 90s could do even everyday people. Maynard talks while in a melody, which almost no one can do because its just his everyday voice in melody. I have no idea why anybody would try a comparison on these two singers.😂🤣😂
hey can you tell me what the last song of this video is called
maynard, but both of them are really really good *-*
This compilation is despicable. They have both been so much better than any song you play here.
May be a bit biased but I'd have to say Keenan. But I have just recently found out how much I love Cornell's vocals and it's close. Both are amazing vocalists, but I just prefer the feel of Maynard's vocals.
Maynard. End of.
Maynard stands alone, in my opinion. Chris is gnarly, don't get me wrong; but Maynard is incontestable.
Cornell and is really is a matter of your personal taste and for their art..really it is.. really very personal..comes down to how you feel not what you hear..

Maynard!
Maynard !!!!! No competition!!!!
Listen to third eye or the grudge by tool. Then you'll see who wins.
Or Pushit
Or Rosetta stoned
Chris Cornell for me.

listen to 3 libras live and pushit salival then you'll see how pathetic Cornells voice is in comparison

No doubt in Maynard!
Ummm....Maynard is God.
Ummm... Maynard, no contest!
Maynard!
