The new firmware update 5.7.5 comes with a ‘bass cut mode’, essentially doing the same as described in the video when you hook up a subwoofer. Greatly reduces the boomy bass and improves the mid range.

Also, I tweaked the fives to custom eq setting where 2 bass, 3 mid and 4 treble. Made a world of difference for me, fives are bass heavy, opening ip the mid range and treble gives it tonnes of flex at higher end.

I’ve been playing with the eq settings as well. Biggest annoyance I have and it probably has nothing to do with the fives is watching a movie or live concert in my living room when kids are sleeping down the hall. I find it exhausting turning the volume up during simple conversation scenes and then back down for action or music scenes. I’ve toyed with the night mode and dynamic bass but even then it’s either too quiet or loud. Any input would be greatly appreciated

@@justinwaite4932 Hi Justin, do you have a dedicated sub? I have tweaked some more from the time I commented last. I have a dedicated powered sub which allows me to control bass volume. My eq settings are now Bass 4 Mid 3 Treble 2. This way the mids, vocals are super clear, sub w takes care of all low frequencies and allows the speakers to just deliver clear highs and mids without any distortion. I also played around with dynamic bass and after a month of experimenting, I have decided to turn it off. My sub will take care of the bass controls. The sub that I am using is Sunfire HRS 8. It is more expensive than the Fives themselves so holds up the quality of sound m after.

@@justinwaite4932 i have used the Fives without sub as well..I used to turn off Dynamic bass. The only downside to a powered speaker like this is bass management. Its more than capable of delivering good bass wo a sub at higher volumes. It is the lower volumes where bass overpowers mid and treble. If you look at the Vocal preset in the app..its Mid that is the highest. Perhaps you could play with a few settings where Bass is lower and mid and treble are higher. See how that goes. I d be interested in learning if this fixes the issue. Always have dynamic bass off.

I'm hooking the fives up to the 10sw klipsch sub woofer.
Can you walk me thru it, including the proper knob placement on the sub itself?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  3 роки тому

The SW10 is a pretty old subwoofer, and we can not find a pic of the rear panel. You will want to make sure and bypass any crossover built into the sub as The Fives already do that. You will then need to experiment with the level control on the sub as the volume needed will vary based on your room. Hope this helps

This would purely be a matter of personal taste. If you have the sub properly balanced with The Fives, you might prefer to leave it on, however, if you've got the sub a bit hot, it would likely be too much bass.

I have the fives paired with Sunfire HRS 8. Ductless powered sub w. I honestly dont think you need a 10" 12" or 15" for the fives. You may do that if your speakers are bigger thank fives. Anything bigger than 8" sub could potentially muddy the sound.

Nice review, unfortunately, I had to return them. The bass was somehow muffled and booming even with reduced EQ. I sadly did not have enough time for a longer break-in period (only 16 hours). They sound horrible right out of the box by the way. Also, the cloth on the grills is a little loose. I wanted to love them but... I bought Monitor Audio Silver 50 + Denon DRA-800H and the difference is huge.

You forgot to mention that they have a built-in phono preamp! I know for me if there's no phono preamp, it's a deal breaker 👍

Guess I’m upgrading from kanto’s powered speakers to the “fives”

The Kantos are very good for the money. If you have the 4 or 6 adding a sub would be a great option

Here's a tip: To get some extra hi fi out of your 5's on the cheap, get a Dragon Fly DAC--usb then use your iOS device or ? to listen to ultra HD streaming stuff. No one really speaks much about alternatives to LP's. I love LP's - Vinyl by the way.

Great tip, we have done that ourselves here. We love the Dragon Fly family of DACs. And vinyl too! Thanks for sharing

the McLaren v version of the Fives has beaten down the tradition THE FIVES in all aspects of response and dynamic, except the vocal is still not enough warmth

HAd to thumbs down your video. you are great at what you discussed but you never go through actual connections nor how to set this up with a reciever. If your co0nnecting with RCA or USB is better What about connecting with other ways. A detailed way to connect these speakers is needed.

The Klipsch Fives are not made to be connected up to a receiver. They are a stand alone powered speaker system. Our overview of The Fives covered all of the ways to connect them www.audioadvice.com/videos-reviews/klipsch-the-fives-powered-speaker-system Thanks for watching

@@AudioAdvice thank you. As it stands with the outdated software on the speakers that needs updating before they even will work. Bluetooth connection issues. 1.5 hours in software updates etc. I have found these speakers useless. Way too many issues with them. However thank you for the reply.
