JOE. Pure artristry in every level. When you go into a channel that previews speakers. And then you are envy and proud of the structure, cinematography, content. JOE'n'TELL is a total underated gem in the UA-cam ocean...Guys let's be honest. Lets share this guy and make him bigger.!!!

I’m SO glad I found this channel. I’m listening to this through my Fives, and I couldn’t believe how cool this left/right, near/far, deep bass demonstration is - thank Klipsch for including HDMI-ARC (I’m watching UA-cam on my Panasonic flat-screen with HDMI-ARC out connected to The Fives HDMI-ARC in*) and thank you, Joe N Tell - your demo blew me away. This vid is three years old, and my Fives are about two years old, so I know the Klipsch iOS/Android app has had updates in that time. The only very minor quibble I have with the iOS/Android app updates is that they require a USB thumb drive, but I really should have had some USB thumb drives a long time ago, especially as even 32Gb drives are ridiculously inexpensive these days (Klipsch says you only need a 1Gb drive, but at current prices, why limit yourself?), so updating the Klipsch is a big incentive to get some. Can’t wait to see how (or if) the app is better now.
The reason I have The Fives is that I first bought a soundbar from Klipsch that turned out to be a dud; Klipsch sent me a replacement, which was also a dud. I called them, and they asked me if there was anything in their speaker line I’d like instead. I’d read a little about The Fives, and was especially interested because of the HDMI-ARC. I had no idea what the price was until last week when I happened across it online (found out they were about $200 cheaper back then, but still considerably more than what I paid for the dead soundbars).
*Big Question: I just bought a Denon DRA-800H 5.2 Receiver - it has 5 HDMI inputs, and 1 HDMI-ARC Out. Unless I’m totally misunderstanding HDMI ARC (from The Fives manual: “The Fives must be connected to the TVs HDMI-ARC output… in order to receive TV Audio.”) That would seem to leave my Denon receiver’s HDMI-ARC Out with apparently no place to go. Am I misunderstanding this? I have a “5 in, 1 out” HDMI switch (because I have more than 5 HDMI devices), but that doesn’t seem to do me any more good than the Denon receiver. With my Panasonic flat-screen’s ONE HDMI-ARC out going to “The Fives’” ONE HDMI input, I don’t know how to - or if I even CAN - put my Denon receiver in the chain of devices, ending up with all sound going to “The Fives”. Am I just thick in the head (my wife thinks I often am!), or is there a way around this? Hope you - or someone - can answer this.
      Thanks for the great review!
      Bart Brown

Love the new format Joe! You may be taking the spot for the best speaker reviewer on YT! I can't believe those REW measurements for bass! I have the SVS Prime Wireless which also have a 4.5 woofer, and they struggle to get below 50hz for me even up against a wall. They must be doing some kind of DSP wizardry!
I'm not sure how I feel about the DSP trend in these powered speakers lately. I guess they are going for mass market/soundbar killer like you said. If you're an audiophile, you probably already have an external DAC, are doing room EQ with REW upstream of the DAC, and don't need streaming, HDMI ARC, etc...

Nice review, thanks. I don't have a lot of experience in hifi system because previously I don't really listen to music at home, but I am changing a bit. I just got a couple of echo shows and really love to be able to just say "Alexa play foreigner" or other classic rock. With Amazon music and over 75 million songs, its a win. I just got back from Costco and bought the Fives in black for 499 and the Klipsch R-12SWi sub for 229, both were on sale, 800 out the door with tax for both. All i can say is WOW, Now i am worried about neighbors getting annoyed, lol. The sound is truly amazing and you can really feel the sub. I don't know if i will ever hook them up to my technics receiver since all the classic rock i love is available buy saying Alexa play Boston.

You seem to like to compare apples to oranges which nullifies all of your speaker placements save one. Powered speaker category you were dead on. The rest you hung yourself. So concidering your logic in placement is based on flawed thinking. I will concider Steve and Shaun to be light years more likely to be accurate. I do, however, like that you electronically graph the speaker and play them for us so I will continue to listen you you.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  3 роки тому +3

It would be much easier if I didn't force myself to compare each speaker in every category it would fit into. It's very easy if I'm comparing speakers that are similar in price and size. But what happens when a speaker like this comes along that is active? Should I NOT compare it to passive speakers. Just look through the comments and you'll see people are asking me to compare it to other passive speakers.
Sometimes easy isn't what's right and so people enjoy hearing me struggle to figure out the placement of a speaker on my leaderboard. My leaderboard compares speakers based on category, price, and overall sound. I'm the only one doing that. One speaker can place higher than another for a particular category, and lower in another column. So it may seem like "apple's to oranges" to you, but many people are asking me to rank my favorite fruit so I do. If you don't agree with my placement, say what you disagree with specifically so we can discuss it.
I strive to give viewers the MOST insight on my methodology, both subjective and objective, and therefore give viewers a chance to judge for themselves. I've seen other reviewers (no one specific) describe a speaker in certain ways that are the opposite of what the objective measurements say. When a tweeter shows a lower response compared to it's bass and midrange response, saying that it is "bright" isn't a matter of opinion, it's just incorrect. So it's hard for me to trust a reviewer who gets objective things wrong. Why would I guess at a frequency response when I can just measure it? I always found that odd when reviewers do that.
Anyway, people will have reviewers that they like and dislike. I'm just thankful for those who appreciate what I do. If you read through the rest of my comments, you can see that people appreciate different aspects of my reviews and that's ok.

I don't need the HDMI ARC port (as I'll be using Bluetooth or other streaming) + I like the design of R-51PM better.

So I picked up a pair and wow, this is the definition of a plug and play fun pair of speakers. Easy for whole family to use also. But my question is, this is my first experience with what seems to be a active dsp speaker system. I have original la Scalas and pioneer HPM 900 but haven’t tried any dsp devices like minidsp or Dirac just yet. I’m curious if they can provide this kind of “active” type experience using dsp devices(with subs) to punch up their sound when not wanting purely flat or purist sound from those speakers? I can’t find many videos on comparing the engaging more immersive experience dsp seems to add, like my car must have active dsp because it has similar pop that the fives give me. Still learning in this audio journey but curious now since I can compare The fives against my various vintage gear and if similar can be achieved with whatever dsp? Keep up great work!

Hello Joe I am thinking of buying these speakers because the soundbars i have tried sound too boxy. but like others have said the bass can be a tad much. If you press the sub button on the remote control to make the speaker think theres a subwoofer attatched does it give a better sound or does it take the bass away completly. Others have put a sock in the bass port but without success. The other solution im thinking but i dont know if it will work. I have a equaliser on my tv settings im thinking if these speakers will be compatable with it. It works through my soundbar but its the same make as the tv so im not so sure Any help much appreciated. I will wait otherwise till they have EQ settings. Thanks

Bass boosted for sure, but I'm hoping the updates to their Klipsch Connect app will allow the user to change the EQ to taste. As is, I think people coming from a sound bar (most with bloated bass) will appreciate what they get from these. I think that was their thinking. They figured more bass was a safer bet than too little bass.

Do these work well for a PC near field setup? Also when using a sub, are the low frequencies routed away from the Fives?
I am using JBL 305's and two subs for my Desktop setup now and it sounds pretty damn good, when the system is working. i am using a Creative X3 USB soundcard and it is driving me crazy. the software splits the signal between the monitors and the subs but almost daily the sound will degrade and get crackly and i have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. I think its an issue with Creative's drivers or maybe even Windows.

Can you recommend something between Klipsch R-51PM, SVS Prime Wireless Speaker, Audioengine A5+ Wireless and KEF LSX? For use with computer via USB/Optical and wireless via Bluetooth with a phone for Spotify or something similar. I like bass, but I won't have a subwoofer, so which one is better here? I like R-51M and KEF LSX from what I saw in reviews - didn't hear them. But the price... They are different in my country. Klipsch is around 600$, SVS Prime around 600$, Audioengine around 450$ and KEF around 880$ - a lot more than others. I think Klipsch being a bit cheaper than KEF, having a dynamic sound and that Dynamic Bass for lower volume could be a good choice, but I'm not sure.

B and H gives me this option in the description underneath the speakers: “Klipsch Reference Series R-100SW 10" 300W “ Subwoofer as to be used with those speakers .
However I found this other one as well on their website while looking around also from the same company which are way more powerful: Klipsch SPL-120 12" 600W Subwoofer (Ebony)
So I’m not sure if I could buy the more powerful one for using it with the Five heritage speakers or if I should stick with the smaller one. I guess my question is , I don’t want to buy something that is not going to work with those speakers or that is too powerful for those speakers or something .
