    snow's character in the prequel really reminds me of Clarence Thomas. Clarence was literally a black panther and now he is the most corrupt judge we've ever had in American history. I know he's probably not directly responsible for thousands of deaths of children but it's definitely possible to have someone fall so hard from their potential, and it was really important to highlight how villains aren't villains by nature, but by choice. just like Katniss had the choice to volunteer and become the Mockingjay.

    speaking of book to series adaptation the shadow and bones serie was so well done ,the cast was perfect and it's genuinely so enjoyable (also can't describe the amount of disappointment I felt when Netflix canceled the six of Crows adaptation )
    your videos are amazing btw !!!

    I would like to make it known that adobe premiere pro white washed me when I exported and idk why!!! I swear I’m not this pale irl!!! If you’re an editor/have experience pls send tips 😭😭😭

      @bivis8 10 місяців тому +2

      you either have to change your premiere monitor settings or your export settings. orrr the lazy solutions is to up the saturation and contrast a bit more than you would want them so the washed out export looks ok, if that makes sense.

    i unironically love the hunger games movies (especially the first 2, the last 2 should have been one movie but they're still fine). it's kind of incredible how well-cast and well-acted they are. they not only have oscar winner jennifer lawrence but also oscar winners philip seymour hoffman and julianne moore and multiple nominee woody harrelson. i watched an interview with jennifer lawrence where she said her parents think they're the best movies she has ever made lol. i'm also loving the josh hutcherson renaissance that we're in, he deserves it.
    editing to apologize for excluding two-time oscar winner mahershala ali.

    the series adaptation of “looking for alaska” was actually such a pleasant surprise imo, i read the book as a teenager and was worried about the series but i’ve rewatched it like 3 times since it came out. like yeah it’s a lil cliche but it’s also a john green book lol and i just love the characters and the overall 2000s vibe of the show

    I'm begging for the chaos that is the City of Bones by Cassandra Clare adaption with Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower AND the tv show that was something... I also saw a comment for A Series of Unfortunate Events and I also vote for that.

    I just finished binge watching Netflix's adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events and absolutely loved it! I read the books over 15 years ago so was fuzzy on some details but loved how the show added so much back story to the plot and the characters. And the cast, set and production was done to perfection! It was better than how I imagined it while I was reading the book!

      Me too. It's difficult for me to dive into new media but once i do the movie is easier to get into than a book. Then once i know the plot and what happens and there isn't going to be any surprises in the book (sometimes there are, which i will also google first) i can feel safe to read it. Also it's fun to be able to connect in my head the look of the characters and places bcs i often struggle with understanding descriptions :D

    my thought with the PJO tv show adaptation - I liked it but I felt like the plot was really rushed along due to the righting. I also am a huge hater of having verbal exposition rather than just showing things and they did a whole lot of that. I wouldn't consider myself a book purist (usually I'm pretty forgiving) but it just felt really off to me still

    speaking as someone who didn't grow up w HP, my introduction to the series was through the movies (my best friend was a crazy HP fan...) and I actually didn't read the books until l was close to 18 - tbh I think the movies handled a lot of the topics and plot points better than the books... like the unnecessary fat shaming and characters in the book whom we are supposed to be rooting for being genuinely mean for no reason, Harry at times having the personality of a wallpaper, the deeply weird justification JK came up w for the whole slavery issue (i actually cannot spend too much time thinking abt this one without my head just exploding). Just to be clear I am not shaming anyone who liked the books bc i think it might have a lot to do w the timing and how when you grew up reading sth you would associate certain fond memories w it. But as a near adult reading the book series... i just could not get into it.

    Well we have very different tastes 😅
    Fair enough this is opinion based, but I don’t think your grading of things was consistent, and there were some things you could have included to help you reach your conclusion. The best thing about a book is hearing the thoughts of the main characters. It gives you a sense of who they are, and why they make the decisions they make. The relationship of the director vs author plays a huge role in what makes a successful adaption. For example, in the Hunger Games, because the movie was PG13, it pretty much ensured that it wasn’t successfully adapting the meat of the books. They were horribly violent and dark, and that was crucial. That didn’t translate to the movies. The first game always stuck out to me with how torturous and sick it was. The dogs had the eyes of the fallen victims. I did not get that in the heavily CGI creature in the movie. It would have been a better decision to focus in on the eyes of the character who died in the movie a little longer than you’d think was necessary. You’d be able to recognize whose eyes they were more easily. I still enjoyed the movie, and Jennifer Lawrence elevates any movie she’s in, but they are very disappointing to the books. I think a rewatch and re read would have been better - you definitely missed some things. I get not being able to do that though. This is a long list, and you have a thing called a life lol.
    I strongly disagree about the Twilight series. It does not belong at the top for so many reasons. I’ve already written a novel, so I don’t need to go into details, and I also appreciate it is your personal preference.
    Going forward, if there will be more videos like this, I’d say focus more on the quality of the films, and if they successfully captured the characters, and psychology in the books.
