as an american I couldn't agree more. There is no super-suv that wouldn't be fundamentally improved as a car by making it a wagon. imagine the lamborghini estoque concept as a wagon instead of the urus.. or if the aston martin DBX was a rapide-inspired shooting brake, and especially if the ferrari purosangue was essentially a four-door successor to the GTC4Lusso. the heightened center of gravity in a super suv does three things- it makes the car look worse, it makes the car handle worse, and it makes the car more expensive because there's more material required to build it and more headaches from the engineers trying to figure out why they're being forced to craft suspension capable of coping with a center of gravity higher than a skyscraper. thank you for listening to my ted talk

I personally really want a wagon myself but I can think of issues facing any resurgence.
First off no demand. And automakers don't have much incentive either. They have spent billions in R&D in crossovers. If one automaker made a wagon and it took off it would hurt the crossovers. There isn't much incentive to try because of that. The other being the huge lack of demand for wagons cause less reasoning to try.
We have seen how little folks care about wagons by looking at the sales of recent examples from Europe that are available here. The Buick wagon that came out failed and the buyers bought the crososvers. The German stuff sits right next to the crossovers on dealerships and people would rather pay for the crossover.
Consumers will look at a wagon and probably think it's awkward deisgn. We here don't think so. But just think of general customers. They certainly aren't the giants from before. But it's technically a unusual deisgn now for people who don't care about cars.
If you need a third row you can immediately forget about a wagon also being low to the ground you will also have to convince people who want or need awd to deal with the massive tunnel taking up room in the rear.
The ride height is another thing. That's what people want. Most wagons would probably have to draw customers away by lifting them up. But we can see outside the Outback nobody cares much for a lifted wagon vs a crossover.
I really think it's up to the Camry, Accord, Corolla, and Civic to being back any sort of wagon. I was really disappointed that the Corolla Cross wasn't a lifted Corolla Wagon like the Outback. I would think it would save costs to use much of the same sheet metal but oh well.

Well, initially the RS6 Avant was only going to be a one year thing. Each dealership was alloted only two, then that was it. Now, however, it's listed on their site to build and order 2023 models. So, if they changed their initial thought on the 6, maybe that can still end up happening for the 4.

Great vid. But I think too many people forget that this Is a almost 7 year old platform and Is going to be replaced this year, or early next year. It's interesting because despite how old these cars are, they are still beautiful and are very fun to drive.

There might just be a market for the RS4 in North America, albeit a small one. Most people don't want something as large or as powerful as the RS6 and RS7 (almost 600hp), and the RS3 is too small for most. At least they have the RS5 liftback(if they haven't discontinued it yet),but it's really not the same thing.

  • @NotMyAccount

The current RS4 wont be available in the US. Because Audi would have to make some modifications to the rear area of the frame. Its the same reason the current generation M3 Touring wont be available for the US. Probably the next gen RS4 and M3 Touring will if the companies decide to implement the structural changes from the start.

I love wagons over cross shoppers. Wagons like the oldsmobile custom cruiser and ford LTD for example, were used to be the typical family cars in the US back in the 70s and 80s. SUVs like the cherokee xj, ramcharger, blazer and bronco actually does exist during that time, but they were used by rangers, farmers, hunters and off road fanatics instead of a karen mom and their design are mostly based on pick up trucks of this area unlike plastic crossovers who are actually more bigger hatchabcks. The suvs of that area also had two or four doors instead of just four.

I bet the M3 touring is much more fun to drive based on Audi’s aversion to lively steering. That said… do I really want to have to look at that abomination every time I take a drive. Do I want to subject my town and neighborhood to the view of the BMW front grille? Not especially.

RS4 Competition Package (bla bla bla) really changes the characteristics of Audi driving. The reworked suspension is amazing. Understeer is not the reality anymore and the brake’s are phenomenal. No additional power was a bit of a bummer, but it was already good enough and the reduced weight adds to it. In conclusion I’d say that both cars would be equally as fun and nice to drive if we are comparing their AWD models. If we took the RWD M3 it’s another story…
