The Band did a whole half hour podcast thing with the preacher in this video. It's amazing and spot on, it actually gives even more context to the video and its hilarious. Go Holy Rollers Hockey Team
I am Catholic, and I approve this message!! This is a GREAT cover, and even better video. It actually doesn't stray too far from the Genesis original video (all 3 members dressed as 'televangelists' - it was not long after some of them were caught with their pants down...literally). Ghost just took the visuals slightly further...and to perfect effect! LOL...Hockey Bukkake - Love it! Thanks for the awesome reaction.
Originally sung by Genesis in 1992 off their 'We Can't Dance' album which came out in 1991. All 3 members wrote the music but Phil Collins wrote the sarcastic lyrics about Televangelists who were under investigation at that time.
There's an accompanying video that was released at the same time that's 40 minutes long of this preacher's 'podcast' where he says the name of the hockey team is the Holy Hitters
Lol I loved the livestream that played before the premiere of the music video. Added to the first time listening experience since Daddy Jim was such a classic Christian blowhard it felt like we were in his sermon and then got to see what he was really like 😂
We look at them the same. There’s a massive church not far from us that claims they made a woman’s toes grow back through prayer and it blows our minds that people actually believe it. For giggles UA-cam search James River Church Ozark Missouri for the story.
You should listen to the Iron Maiden song they ARE covering because they didn't drop any opportunity, they grabbed the best one. That song feels exactly like something Ghost would play, much like this song does.
Since youve been in Jim Baker's house the original by Genesis and music video is WAY more applicable. They go after that type of televangelist. Ghost goes for the jugular of the Christian church. I've been watching numerous reaction videos just to see how people react to this video and I think you guys nailed it. The genius of Tobias to release this, plus the livestream of the pastor in video before this talking about rock music with mentions of God and Jesus, was (chef's kiss) perfect. Made my Easter morning.
I know you were saying you wanted to see him with a guy in the video. At least in the lyrics it says "I believe in the family / With my ever-loving wife beside me / She doesn't know about my girlfriend / Or the man I met last night"
Oh yeah! I was so looking forward to seeing you guys check this out! It's just kind of SO AWESOME! And I'm certain this is going to *kill* live! Great job and Rock On! 🤘😎👍
I think this one is great, as always. The Genesis original version where very controversial when it were released. I also think it was banned in some areas in the US and wasn't allowed to be played in several radio stations because of the "blasphemous" message. See it! Not as far going as Ghost's version though! 🙂
Also adding to the greatness: when they released this the "priest" in the video had a live show here in youtube with "callers" calling in! And the name Defroque....
@@BK_ZERO The verb "defrock" means to deprive (a person in holy orders) of ecclesiastical status. A priest that's no longer a priest, maybe for doing crimes or other things...
Damn right Tobias is a genious! The song itself is fantastic. The pr value of the video with its content dropping it on easter day is beyond words smart. But the true genious is the little things. I will give you one example. In the beginning when Father Jim De Froque (yes that is his name) pops in the cassete in the car stereo you can see the frequency 103.3 in the display. But it is no radio station. Instead it is a reference to Psalm 103.3 You see how smart he is 😃. Can't wait to hear the album 🤘. Good reaction to the video ❤
@@michaelmardling3152 Yes. It is a radio station here in Sweden as well. But what Tobias refers to is the Psalm 103.3 Read it and you will understand. 👍
Phil Collins played drums on twelve Genesis albums but was the lead singer on only eight. So I guess it's debatable if he was more singer or the drummer 😅 Peter Gabriel was the lead singer on their first six albums. They were a progressive rock band through the seventies but started to turn into a pop band in the early eighties. Just wanted to say this because most people only know the poppy Genesis when they were one of the best progressive bands of the seventies. For many the best.
The original was inspired by Ernest angley, phil collins was watching him on tv in a hotel room he found it sad/fascinating how he could harvest millions of dollars off his followers.
Apparently Tobias wanted to change the lyrics to "And the man I fucked last night", but he didn't want to burn any bridges with Genesis, and he frankly ran out of time. I sure as hell hope he changes the lyrics live.
@@MatandChelsReact Also Earnest Angley, funny thing was when collins originally wrote it he was quoting some of their crazy sermons, which was taken out of the edited video because he didn't want to give them writing credits therefore having to pay them.
u mentioned that u wanted a bit of homosexuality in the video, but what's interesting is that in live performances, Papa will actually change the lyrics! the original lyrics - and the one in the video - is "I believe in family/With my ever lovin' wife beside me/But she don't know about my girlfriend/Or the man I met last night" but in performances Papa will sometimes change it to "my husband" or "my boyfriend" (sometimes) but will almost always change that fourth line to "the man i screwed last night"!
Hey Guy's!! You should get back to The Warning. They've got a handful of professionally shot live videos from last fall at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City. They are AMAZING!!!!
Genesis, originators of this song like Ghost mocking TV Evangelists like Jim Bakker & Jimmy Swaggart. I remember Bakker's PTL or I called Pass The Loot fleecing the flock like this preacher in the video.
Thought it was women dressed as hockey players, they were playing men coming in his hair, when you say you wanted tome depictions of homosexuality, its also in the lyrics, "I believe in family With my ever lovin' wife beside me But she don't know about my girlfriend Or the man I met last night" The original Genesis video is also great, though not explicit, but you need to watch the uncensored one, its not rude, its just longer with a monologue at the start and less ambiguous.
I like Ghost's cover. Their sound gives the song balls, but the video doesn't live up to the visual spectacle of Genesis' concept. too0pathetic's channel is running the original MTV version of the Genesis video. Go Holy Rollers Hockey Team
Spending extra time with the boys to give them some pep talk and support
Where can I watch/listen to the podcast if I may ask? :)
Genesis version is a classic. This version is heavy , I love it.
Technically, I love both. They're equally awesome in their own ways, and the message is still the same!
The girls went from saying "Forgive me father for I have sinned" to "Sorry daddy I've been a bad girl"
😂

My favorite part was how excited Chels got for “Hockey Bukkaki”…priceless🤣
I kept saying hockey bukakke in my head after seeing it
Is that the band doing it?
That was pretty homoerotic, so thats your gay representation.
As a swede I realy LOVE this. This is basicly how I see this part of the US. From a far your evangelist are so transparant! Love your reactions. 🎉

Remember seeing maiden perform Phantom way back as a kid. Paul Di'Anno line up. Ah memories...
The toy car at the beginning kills me 😂
Probably my favorite reaction to this song so far (there have been many since Easter).
Thank you!
Have you guys heard the first big cover they did? "Bible" originally by Swedish postpunk, new wave rock band "Imperiet"
Yeah, I'd also recommend listening to the Genesis version, it is a classic.
Gonna have to check it out!
I love Mat's excitement for this video 😅 and it's catchy AF.
Looks like a behind the scenes of a Joel Osteen sermon

James McDonald 😶

watch Jesus Talk with Father Jim DeFroque . Ghost released it 30 minutes before the song. it will explain the characters & the final scene.

Number Of The Beast and of course some of those classic Black Sabbath songs, even some fun Alice Cooper songs I'd love to hear from them like It's Me.

Funny that ya mention Jim Bakker...I'm near Charlotte so yeah we know all about PTL around here.
Bakker is one of the worst "Christian" grifters out there.
I wonder if the "hockey bukkae" scene was a loose Dogma easter egg, the kevin smith movie, where the demon kids were in hockey gear, kinda
