"Square Hammer" should be your next stop. Its so catchy - the intro is my ringtone LOL. But there are a lot of musical facets to Ghost. For something darker I'd suggest "Mummy Dust" or "From the Pinnacle to the Pit."
The best live example is the movie Rite Here Rite Now. Filmed near the end of the last tour cycle in LA. The most encompassing thing I can say about Ghost ( my absolute favorite band) is they are fun. A lot of fun.
Absolutely agree on the recommendation for them to watch Rite Here Rite Now. I think this footage was done as a cinematic test in prep for RHRN to work out staging and framing details for the movie.
Ghost is an extraordinary act. More one man's project than a band, really. Tobias Forge, the frontman who goes by different names, depending on the album cycle (this one is *Papa Emeritus IV).* _Incredibly_ catchy songs that you remember on one listen, paired with deep, often dark lyrics that belie the often upbeat music. The only act in my 64 years - maybe since Genesis and Pink Floyd in the '70s - whose lyrics has me constantly reaching for a dictionary (despite Forge being Swedish!), Google or Wikipedia to try and catch the multi-layered religious and philosophical references. Forge writes all the material, with a little help from a few people. He always has a face prosthetic on stage that includes the neck and hair, and this changes with each character. He went from *Papa Emeritus I* ('Papa' is Italian for Pope - Emeritus implies 'retired', so a zombie Pope, as Popes don't usually retire!!), then *II* (both very dark, priest-like figures), then *Papa III.* Papa III was replaced by *Cardinal Copia,* who had no face paint (but still a mask!). Copia was finally promoted to Papa Emeritus IV in March 2020, when he took on the right to face paint again. Ghost released a concert movie called 'Rite Here Rite Now' in June 2024, from a couple of dates in Los Angeles in 2023. It is extraordinary, concert mixed with a sort of story. At the end of it, Papa IV retires. We are awaiting the 6th album and Papa V's arrival, some time in 2025. I have no idea how someone can project so much charisma, wearing a mask. 'Mary On A Cross' is one of the more poppy songs, but the range goes from '70s metal, '80s metal and arena rock, prog rock, pop/rock... all with a modern production treatment. Even a couple of '60s style songs, of which this is one. The music is incredibly addictive and Ghost is a real rabbit hole with a long lore associated with it, that actually starts in 1969! I encourage you to do more! Try 'Square Hammer', and for darker stuff 'Cirice' (it won a Grammy), 'Year Zero' (especially live versions, there's a great pro-shot one from Hellfest 2016), 'Call Me Little Sunshine', 'Faith', 'Rats'; for more beautiful, the wonderful 'He Is', and 'Life Eternal' with the official video filmed in March 2020 - but studio audio.
Very well put together description, when I saw the movie, I got shivers all over several times. Not "Ghost", but very recommended is also this performance at a Swedish television show, with Sympathy for the devil, absolutely fantastic ! Where you really can hear all of Tobias range. ua-cam.com/video/zasMBtPiMqE/v-deo.html
This band is just awesome. You hear once and twice, but you'll only catch everything after several listenings. The backing vocal on these ghouls are just incredible
I saw them live last year, best concert I've ever been to. They're just enormous fun. The thing you have to understand about Ghost, which people sometimes don't because they're put off by the costumes and the satanism gimmick, is that it's really all very tongue in cheek and oddly wholesome. They may lean into the sinister vibes here and there, moreso in their earlier stuff, but they're really just here to give people a good time, both musically and with their whole performance and lore.
This is not his face with make-up, he wears a mask (with make-up). The mouth of the mask moves a little but you don't see his real mouth singing wide open behind the mask.
Ghost has been a delight to my ears since I first met the band, but hearing them live was a completely wonderful experience. It was my first concert and they set the bar very high. I doubt any other artist will ever surpass the quality of the show that Ghost offered me. I'm excited to see them again next year.
Please please cover more Ghost and definitely go down that rabbit hole. I got to see them live last year and it was amazing! Probably one of my favorite concerts of all time. Some suggestions, He Is, Year Zero, Cirice, honestly you can’t go wrong. Their albums are worth listening beginning to end. Tobias is captivating to watch.
I'm listening to this song multiple times a day since 2 years and can't get enough of the harmonies in the end. 14:30 - 15:00 for me is the most beautiful piece of music ever composed.
Been to a lot of concerts in my day and ghost was easily the best sounding concert I’ve been to. They were flawless live. Not only in presentation, but showmanship, and Tobias and the backing vocalists in the band sounded absolutely flawless. They are an incredible show to go to.
I saw Ghost when they came through the area last year. It was my first time seeing them live, and they put on an amazing show! You could tell how much work and professionalism went into putting on the show, and how much fun they were having putting on the show. My personal favorites are "Faith" and "Spillways", and the remake of the Genesis "Jesus he knows me", but they have tons of great songs!
Ghost has been around for a long time but the musicians change often. That's why they are EXTREMELY protective of their identities. They don't want anyone to know who they are irl so that no one focuses on the musicians or gets upset with someone changes out. They are here purely for the art.
MORE GHOST!!! i love this band and please dont let the themes put you off, they have awesome music, awesome live performances specifically and the music is wonderful hope you have fun with this band!
I discovered Ghost many moons ago, when James Hetfield in an Interview with Swedish tv said (wearing a Ghost shirt) that Ghost was his favorite band. Me as a Metallica fan got intrigued and had to look them up, been hooked since. Also, look up their UA-cam, they got more there than music 😉
A couple of years ago I was standing next to Tobias Forge (the singer) at a record booth at a festival here in Germany (he is a passioned vinyl collector). You would never ever believe that he is the man behind that mask, so at least that worked out very well back than. But of course, these days he´d become a pretty well known celebrity.
I've seen Ghost live twice last decade when I was in my 40's. As an 80's kid, their shows have a great classic feel with a grand entrance, excellent stage show and melodic hard rock. They are a tight unit with great sound. I would go see them a third time if the came to town.
ghost's creative vision is INSANELY COOL and all of the things tobias forge has created since they've been performing are so detailed and intriguing to dive into! there is also VERY heavy "lore" with this band that it takes MONTHS to take it all in honestly. there are still things i find out years later! i am so glad you came down this rabbit hole! hopefully the journey continues :)
Tobias is a hell of a singer, and his stage presence is unmatched. I've seen them live several times and I rank them as probably the best live shows I've ever seen. You're in for a treat if you fall down the rabbit hole.
Ghost are a very unique act, Tobias is one of the best frontmen working today and there's alot for you to check out, some good ones to start with are Square hammer, He is, Dance Macabre, Rats and Cirice. Have fun in the Ghost rabbit hole!
Oh wow first time I'm seeing you and I have to say I love your voice so much and the way you're talking and explain thing. Omg you are perfect. Going forward for other videos !!
Ghost is such a high quality experience. I'm so excited to see them in May!! Especially Mary on a Cross hits that sweet spot with the chorus and the backing vocals. They are so unique and I feel blessed to live in the same timeline!!!
Ghost is honestly one of the few bands that makes themselves look the complete opposite from what they sound like. Papa/Tobias is an amazing singer with the backup vocals from the ghoulettes. They’re honestly such a great band. All of their songs honestly feel like their own albums. Comparing this song to year zero they are completely different tones, vocals and just vibes in general. You should definitely review year zero!
The way you react, using your hands to express a lot(beautiful hands btw), your genuine way to enjoy music, those are the reasons why I enjoy watching your channel. Congrats
First of all, love ya! 🙂Seeing you react to Ghost is like extra everything, on a platter...or something else! Thank you!🙂Please do more Ghost, I think you will love it! "Square hammer", "Rats", "He is" or "Spillways" - awesome songs from the band! Cheers from a not at all byest country, Sweden. 🙂
I hope you went down the rabbit hole with Ghost. From 2010 till now and even his Death Metal Band Repungnant he has been a musical genius. He is amazing. Very humble and loves his fans. He interacts with us through his music and chapters on you tube. If your a “Ghestie” you are in love with the band. I have never had a band or fan base that has made me feel so happy or made to feel part of a group. My very best friend and I met through Ghost and I thank them everyday for her friendship. Thanks for your wonderful review. Go see them on their world tour in the states summer of 25. You will so enjoy yourself. There’s nothing like it. ❤ hugs
And tobias sings through a prosthetic face piece. That’s why he’s always got the mic on his face. He’s the greatest. Seeing ghost in July 2025 in the pit! Woooo. I’m old might kill me but what a way to go
I loved these guys the first time I heard them! And the only way I've ever been able to describe them is a modern successor to Blue Oyster Cult...a range of musical stylings from heavy prog rock to 60s pop, with beautiful vocals and dark, humanist and/or occult lyrics...all delivered with that beautiful, melodic voice.
This video is my first time coming across your channel. I have since watched several of your videos and I very much enjoy them! Ghost is my absolute favorite band! If you decide to really dig into them, it is an extensive rabbit hole, and its a long way down! Their discography is extensive, between their originals and their covers. And then there is all of their lore! Don't miss out on their Chapter videos. I recommend checking out Hunter's Moon, which is my favorite song of theirs, and it's actually how I found the band. They released a movie this summer called Rite Here Rite Now, which continues the lore that has been built in their Chapter videos. The concert part of the movie was filmed over two nights in LA, which I made the trip out to attend. (I am in the background of the movie!) I hope you very much enjoy your exploration of this band! This Fandom is pretty awesome and will do the best we can to answer any questions you may have! If you have Ghost.....
Tobias puts on a bit of an affect in his voice in concert, he doesn’t actually sound like that when he normally speaks, he’s soft spoken. Ghost is one of my favs, Square Hammer got me into them.
That is true...that is his real voice without any effects ...just have to watch very early videos when it was not Ghost and he had no make up or mask ..he always had that "nasal" rangy and amazing voice.
I think OP meant his speaking voice in the beginning of the video, which absolutely is a little affected. If you’ve seen Tobias in interviews out of character, particularly when speaking Swedish, he doesn’t sound that nasal. It‘s a character choice.
This song makes everyone happy. Everyone is young, beautiful, happy to be there and enjoy the song. That's why we smile while listening and waching the video
Holy Cow! I cant believe you havent heard GHOST before. They came out of left field for me too. If you hear a song that may sound demonic, its just Tobias's way to challenge the system. He is so brilliant. If You Have GHOST, you have everything.
The thing i love about Ghost is that many songs are so different from each other. 😊 The singer has said that the mask is preventing him from singing properly.
He does indeed wear a mask all the time on stage. His name is Tobias forge and unmasked honestly you two could be siblings as you have quite similar features
Hi! I looooved this video!!! Ghost has been my fav band for years now. Everything around them is so mysterious, so fun. Not just the music, but also the masks, the lore, EVERYTHING!!. And I LOVED watching you discovering them for the first time. About the masks, they always use them, although Tobias plays around with them so that he can sing better. You might wanna listen to the studio recordings to hear how his voice changes without the mask. Also, ghost has had different characters throughout their eras (always Tobias singing tho), with different masks, so he slightly changes his voice to adjust it to the character he is playing! That's super cool too hehehe. I hope you enjoyed the band and that you explore a bit more into it, I assure you it's really REALLY FUN
I know nothing about singing but really enjoyed this video. I was very curious about what you were going to say about his voice (even I don't know the technicals). I am blown away by his voice every time I hear this song. And you are so right about the stage presence! What a showman! I bet Ghost's concerts are so much fun.
FINALLY!!! I’ve been waiting for you to do this song, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Be very prepared to go head on down the Ghost rabbit hole…it’s awesome journey!!!
Funny thing about Tobias is he used to be a death metal singer, then he was in a more alternative rock band, and then he was trying to relaunch the death metal project when Ghost blew up and set up the rest of his life.
Try listening to Con Clavi Con Dio Live in Ceremony and Devotion. You'll receive dark vocals there. Also, the lead singer (Tobias Forge, also known as Papa Emeritus) wears a Silicone Mask. That's why you see lack of Emotions. They have more Dark and Hardcore Music! Can't wait For you to do more GHOST Content!! ❤
This clip does a great job of capturing the vibe and aura that I noticed seeing them in a different city: maybe it’s my geology background pushing me to the word “crystalline.” The clarity of the performance, the sound, the lighting, shoot even the air is just flawlessly crystalline. Flawless is just a good way to sum up Ghost’s musicality, you can tell that everyone on stage has a lot more they COULD show us, but they are doing that so they can just exude confidence. This isn’t to say these are simplistic songs or parts, just that they are all 100% pros who are just on top of things every step of the way. Plus there’s a fun camaraderie in the crowd-most people aren’t in costume (I wasn’t), but part of each of us was thinking about which costume we’d go with! Finally, I say this as straight dude who has a long track record of not knowing what women find attractive in a man, but damn does Tobias have charisma out into orbit when he’s in character, and especially on stage. The rest of us guys just can’t compete with that!
My daughter is on TikTok and the chorus of this song was in every second video a couple of years ago. I think it was slowed down or something. The funny thing is that I was a Ghost fan then but I hadn't heard this particular song and sang the chorus to annoy her for weeks until I realized who it was.
I love watching someone discover Ghost. Not long before they are rocking and bopping along. Tobias, aka Papa Emeritus IV in this show, wears a silicone custom mask fitted to his face.
Hearing his voice mature and change (intentionally and unintentionally) with each Papa is so cool to me. TF's breath control and vibrato is so alluring, paired with the dark "sinful" aesthetic, it was fun to see you "fall in love" in real time 😂❤ They sound amazing in person. Hope you get to experience it some day! Have fun on your deep dive and research ❤
Let me tell you, they are absolutely Ah-mazing live! My first song I heard from Ghost was He is. From there it sbowballed to loving Ghost. I kove how tbeyre not afraid to cover songs & make it their own. I cannot wait to see them kive again.
This is an odd thing for me, but I have no problem listening to this song every day. It's been a couple of years now and it still gives me those "positive chills". I think I need to be medicated lol.
Can't wait to see more Ghost reactions. I'm still a bigger fan of the "Alpha and Omega" days. Which I'm sure you'll find as you research the band more. Keep doing what you're doing. Love your videos.
i love seeing people discover this band!!! ghost has a really varied catalogue, i seriously think there’s something there for everyone. they recently came out with a wonderfully goofy concert film, and they put on one hell of a show. the whole band has an ongoing fiction, and the film ties into that, too! they’ve got a really great live performance of their song “call me little sunshine” on jimmy kimmel that i highly recommend checking out!
Ghost are a deep, but fun rabbit hole, with levels depending how deep into the "Lore" of the band you want to go (don't worry, it's VERY tongue in cheek)
Tobias actually broke his nose in a fight as a teenager and that's why his singing voice is a little bit nasal. But you should know that he once also was a singer of the death metal band Repugnant. So he can do that too. Welcome to your family. You know if you have Ghost you have everything ❤️ Try He Is live from the Swedish Grammy Award next. 👍
Tobias Forge has had a long career in music, he has played and sung deathmetal with the band Repugnant, he has played soft/indie rock with the bands Subvision and Magna Carta Cartel until finally Ghost is the project that took off in 2010.
They're the best live performances I've ever seen. And without listing, I've seen lots of "heavy hitters". He never pushes recordings outside of his comfort zone, so he flawlessly nails every note (with obvious improv in there also haha), and his stage presence is insane. The first time I saw them, he was still Papa Emeritus II, so there was still mostly full on pope type attire and not much moving around stage, yet he still was absolutely electric. Even just subtle hand movement, slow walk, etc was great. There is some really good vids like "Depth of Satan's eyes" from 2013 or the "Cirice" live acoustic performance that really showcase how cool he can be with very little...
I just discovered this song and forgot all about Ghost and then remembered them as a band xDD and the song is catchy as hell. Your hair suits you perfectly, it made you look holy
For every album the singer plays a new lead character . All are priests or cardinals who earn their skull paint to become the next pope. He and the band members who are called nameless ghouls also change costumes for every album. They are part of a church that perform songs and rituals from each new album.

@@daniel635biturbo Yes, I absolutely love that rendition. It builds and builds..!
They've done some brilliant cover versions too.
This and RUSH i will never get tired of hearing. The movie Rite Here Rite Now, got to me and im a crusty veteran.
This guy Ghosts 👍🏼
He is one hell of a singer and they are so entertaining. I think you’ll enjoy their entertainment value and his singing talent
This band is just awesome. You hear once and twice, but you'll only catch everything after several listenings. The backing vocal on these ghouls are just incredible
I believe that's why the songs grow so much on you.
Perfectly stated.
I saw them last year too, it was also the best concert I've ever been to.
This is not his face with make-up, he wears a mask (with make-up).
The mouth of the mask moves a little but you don't see his real mouth singing wide open behind the mask.
Think it’s more like a prosthetic mask right?
One of my most favs… and i love the live version of this more than the studio recording. Just goes to show how fun & spectacular they sound live.
Been to a lot of concerts in my day and ghost was easily the best sounding concert I’ve been to. They were flawless live. Not only in presentation, but showmanship, and Tobias and the backing vocalists in the band sounded absolutely flawless. They are an incredible show to go to.
Been listening to this very performance 24/7 since discovering it this week. I see it was released in 2019. Everything about this piece is perfect.
Yay, Bethany!! Tobias/Ghost is incredible. You're going on a very fun ride!
I seen Ghost in concert. IT IS AN EXPERIENCE!!! They are excellent.
Ghost has been around for a long time but the musicians change often. That's why they are EXTREMELY protective of their identities. They don't want anyone to know who they are irl so that no one focuses on the musicians or gets upset with someone changes out. They are here purely for the art.
Right but it's important to point out for those who don't know is that the front man is ALWAYS Tobias forge, regardless of the mask
Don't forget he's singing through a mask too. It's not just makeup.
Yep, I think it was before a show in Gothenburg for one of the Sonisphere shows. I noticed the t-shirt, too, and had to check out their music.
I compare them and their show to that of Alice Cooper both with stage show and their sound.
@@ragnarokxg2113 - Good comparison! Agreed.
If you have a Ghost you have everything.
Happy Halloween! 🎃👻🍬👀
omg we have same pfp!
@minseokya8985 Andronikos pfp
@@projectmaker8832 hahah yes!! i never change this pfp since... 8/9 years maybe...
@@minseokya8985 Me too
His breath control is amazing.
ghost's creative vision is INSANELY COOL and all of the things tobias forge has created since they've been performing are so detailed and intriguing to dive into! there is also VERY heavy "lore" with this band that it takes MONTHS to take it all in honestly. there are still things i find out years later! i am so glad you came down this rabbit hole! hopefully the journey continues :)
Thanks for a good reaction. ❤
YAY! Welcome to the Ghost rabbit hole!!
Congrats
Oh, please go down the rabbit hole, id love to watch some more reactions to other iconic songs from them ✨
First of all, love ya!
❤ hugs
Hopefully you do more of Ghost, some of the ending songs of each album are INSANELY good
I lovvvvvve ghost .. Tobias is a genius. He writes all songs & plays guitars on all albums etc ... go down the rabbit hole it's very worth it .
If you have Ghost.....
great video.
love your facial expressions. the emotion and your "huumm" pauses
He does all of this whilst wearing a Full Head Mask.
A Mask.
Amazing.
Tobias puts on a bit of an affect in his voice in concert, he doesn’t actually sound like that when he normally speaks, he’s soft spoken. Ghost is one of my favs, Square Hammer got me into them.
What? He does sound like that singing. Speaking voice and singing voice are different. So, no affects / effects.
Its a really a truth!She looks like his sister!!!😃
Yea, but she is 100 times prettier than he is. Lol
If You have ghosts' acoustic is a beautiful display of Tobias talent as a vocalist (Hard drive)
I love that version!!!!
Saw them last year when they were here in Australia, one of the BEST concerts I've ever been to
“He Is” masterpiece !!!!!!
Great review of our guy Tobias! So many of us love the band “GHOST”
The Charlotte Wessels/Zora Cock cover is incredible!
Love Charlotte and Zora's version!
Funny thing about Tobias is he used to be a death metal singer, then he was in a more alternative rock band, and then he was trying to relaunch the death metal project when Ghost blew up and set up the rest of his life.
Ghost is amazing..definitely worth going down the rabbit hole. 😎👍🔥🔥
What's even more impressive to me is the level of singing the audience is doing. You can hear them in time and in tune the whole time
This clip does a great job of capturing the vibe and aura that I noticed seeing them in a different city: maybe it’s my geology background pushing me to the word “crystalline.” The clarity of the performance, the sound, the lighting, shoot even the air is just flawlessly crystalline.
Tobias, has such a pure voice that even today's singers do not have such beautifully pure tone as he does 🤩🤩
I was at this show in Tampa, Florida! Ghost is incredible! 🤘🏼
Great band...amazing analisis!!!!
I'm a 53 year old Latino, and a huge Ghost fan always enjoying their music, and I see nothing wrong with that
“He is” is a beautiful song. You must do Cirice, Spillways, Kaissarion.
TF's breath control and vibrato is so alluring, paired with the dark "sinful" aesthetic, it was fun to see you "fall in love" in real time 😂❤
They sound amazing in person. Hope you get to experience it some day! Have fun on your deep dive and research ❤
Fantastic band very much worth listening to thier back catalogue
Let me tell you, they are absolutely Ah-mazing live! My first song I heard from Ghost was He is. From there it sbowballed to loving Ghost. I kove how tbeyre not afraid to cover songs & make it their own. I cannot wait to see them kive again.
This is an odd thing for me, but I have no problem listening to this song every day. It's been a couple of years now and it still gives me those "positive chills". I think I need to be medicated lol.
The Ghouls and Ghoulettes sing like angels.
The ABBA of metal, that's what this is.
Can't wait to see more Ghost reactions. I'm still a bigger fan of the "Alpha and Omega" days. Which I'm sure you'll find as you research the band more. Keep doing what you're doing. Love your videos.
Love me some Ghost, would love to see some more on the channel
Ghost makes Scooby Doo Music and its fantastic.
i love seeing people discover this band!!! ghost has a really varied catalogue, i seriously think there’s something there for everyone. they recently came out with a wonderfully goofy concert film, and they put on one hell of a show. the whole band has an ongoing fiction, and the film ties into that, too!
they’ve got a really great live performance of their song “call me little sunshine” on jimmy kimmel that i highly recommend checking out!
You know if you have Ghost you have everything ❤️
Try He Is live from the Swedish Grammy Award next. 👍
First time for me seeing Ghost was Sweden Rock Festival 2023, They were AWSOME and im a Ghost fan now ^^
I highly recommend watching Monstrous Clock live. it is what made me fall in love with the band.
but I guess at this point you have already seen it.
As an Asian 80s kid, ghost is like a package of cutting crew, the smiths and billy Joel...everything in that voice is nostalgic...we love it
Tobias Forge has had a long career in music, he has played and sung deathmetal with the band Repugnant, he has played soft/indie rock with the bands Subvision and Magna Carta Cartel until finally Ghost is the project that took off in 2010.
Greetings and salutations! You should definitely check out Dance Macabre! Ghost has a very nostalgic sound!
