Materials used:
• Oil paints - Gamblin Oil Colors and Nevskaya palitra (russian brand)
Colors: Burnt umber, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Red and Titanium White. (I have a color-mixing video where I explain how I premix my palette) In addition I have a couple of colors that I use very rarely: Ivory Black, Celestial Blue and Cobalt Violet Deep.
• Primed linen canvas (from a local art-store)
• Paint thinner (odorless mineral spirits)
• Medium (stand linseed oil)
• Brushes - Detail brushes & Filbert synthetic brushes of different sizes
• Glass palette (homemade)
• Palette knife (from a local art-store)
• Varnish
• Paper towels (or tissues that I use to wipe the brushes)

i was so surprised seeing people say how the background wasn't a good choice. honestly as an artist myself i think it pulled the whole painting together perfectly. i absolutely adore your style and your skill.

I really wish I could paint like this but I just can't figure out shading and how to get skin tones it's so much easier for me to do a value pencil drawing but I love paint
Uniquely Taylor the way I do it is to look at my reference photos on the computer and use the dropper tool in MS paint to see exactly what skin color is where. then when you edit that you'll be able to see where it lies on the color gradient thing (like if it's red-yellow, blue-ish, etc). I'm not sure I explained myself very well but if you get what I mean I hope it helps!
Uniquely Taylor One way that might help you is to do a grisaille layer, a.k.a. "gray layer" or "dead" layer. She doesn't use an underpainting and instead applies the paint directly and builds the values that way, but most painters I think do an underpainting layer of grisaille or verdaccio (green instead of grey) or another single color (I've always used ultramarine blue or Yellow ochre thinned with turp) to establish the values first and then apply their colors on top of that. With you prefering to establish values with a pencil in drawing like you said, it sounds like you would benefit from utilizing such an underpainting if you ever wanted to try painting again.

I love the background I would never thought of that one. I think the background makes the lady look like the centre of the painting if there was a sea or compiled background the lady would not pop out at you. Preference. It does give the paintings a unique look. And they look more modern and are therefore also maybe more popular to hang on the wall. But I sometimes think the background strokes distract from the beautiful faces.
It’s a beautiful background it is just every time she covered some of the painting a part of me died because it was beautiful before but now that it is finished it looks better than ever
